Delisted Free Agents - who should we target?

There’s options.. I like that we have gone young but would like a bit more depth in the reserves.
Robertson, Bennell, Partington, Webb, Nyhuis, Newnes and Murray all interest me for 1 year deals. Even 1 on senior list and one on rookie list. We will have a good rookie selection this year too.

Currently have picks 4, 23, 28, 37, 45 and 49. And 6 vacant spots.
I would upgrade one rookie, pickup one senior DFA and upgrade to taking 4 18 year olds. I feel 6 is too many in one year.
Combine picks 23 and 37 for Pick 15 (GC)
Then combine picks 45 and 49 for pick 32 (Sydney).
Leave us with Picks 4, 15, 28, 32 a DFA and upgraded rookie.

Bennell and upgrade Butts for me.

Why are Gold Coast and Sydney downgrading their picks? Certainly Gold Coast don't need any more selections period

I guess Sydney may want to split a pick to have more selections, but more likely is Freo at 22 or Hawthorn at 30 looking to move down to get more points to match a bid.

Im also a bit sick of the good family gimmick, we should focus 99% on actual talent.

I don't think any of the delistee's are worth our time, The only reason we are getting one is purely for vack up and depth, most likely won't play in the Senior side.

We need to go the youth route, I'd only look at one mature KPD purely because that's where were are weakest depth wise. I'd be looking at State leagues for a 22-24 key back.

Kaiden Brand has 43 games under his belt 25yo ex West Adelaide. Played well in defence for Box Hill this year with limited (5) games in AFL. Pretty similar to Keath @ 198cm, 98kg. Seemed a bit rough getting dropped 2018 for finals and in and out of the side this year unable to gain any real confidence. Worth a look?

BRISBANE has delisted hard-at-it agitator Nick Robertson as it refines its developing list for a strong flag tilt in 2020.
The 24-year-old developed into an effective run-with player with a knack of getting under the skin of some of the best players in the competition, but as young talent has developed around him Robertson has found it increasingly difficult to hold a senior berth.
After playing 42 of a possible 44 games across 2017-18, Robertson managed just five senior appearances with the Lions this year as they headed towards a second-placed finish to the home and away season.
"Robbo has always given 100% at everything he has done; training, preparation, the way he plays," Brisbane's general manager of football David Noble said.
"I am hopeful another club would provide him with another opportunity as a delisted free agent.

I'd be fine with putting him and Knight on one year contracts, and telling them there is a single contract available in 2021.

Together with Frampton getting some take no crap in just makes me a little more comfortable that not everyone in the team around are nice boys

Brand is terrible. Consistently beaten one on one and makes far too many mistakes for a defender. He wouldn’t even be an upgrade over Hartigan.

Depends if they feel a Ben Keays type is young enough and fits the mould, and whether he'd be better than pick 100.

Robertson interests me, but purely as a depth option rather than a R2 best 22 type. 190cm, aggressive, strong.

I don't mind taking delisted guys from strong clubs

Ive always been a believer that it’s far more important to have “ready to go” depth in talls rather than smalls. Young smalls can generally come in and play to a reasonable level straight away and often relish the opportunity, young talls less so apart from a select few.

End of the day, I very much expect us to use our rookie picks on mature aged talent, eg Robertson, Partington etc

Bennell is an interesting one, talent wise, without a doubt, could be the best player in the AFL. Sadly I doubt we’ll ever see it. I’d very much be exploring him as an option, depends where his head’s at I guess.
