Ooh. Elijah Hollands? Denver Grainger Barrass? AARON NAUGHTON?

Heh.

But in all seriouslyness, we have enough top end youth, and we've got picks 2 and 3 in this years draft.

We don't need pick 4.

We need to be doing what Adelaide did and getting a Jordan Dawson with those end of first picks.

Club statement - AFL assistance package

North Melbourne will receive three extra end-of-first round draft selections spread over two years as part of an assistance package determined by the AFL Commission on Monday.

The League confirmed North Melbourne will receive the following:
one end-of-first round selection in the 2023 AFL Draft (currently pick 19)
two end-of-first round selections in the 2024 AFL Draft (currently picks 19 and 20)
the continuation of the club’s ability to have two additional rookie list spots in season 2024

The AFL reserves the right to review the 2024 draft selections at the end of next season, however the club will be able to use the picks in trades this year.

North Melbourne now holds three first-round selections – picks 2, 14 and 19 – and three 2024 first-round selections ahead of this year’s free agency, trade and draft period.

North Melbourne CEO Jennifer Watt welcomed the package, and thanked the AFL for considering the club’s submission.

“We’ve worked closely with the AFL over the past few weeks to build out an assistance package,” Watt said.

“We put a strong case forward given our recent results and the steps we’ve taken to improve on and off the field, and we especially thank Andrew Dillon, Laura Kane and Ned Guy for listening to us.

“We’re looking at every way to improve our list – whether that’s bringing in more high-end draft talent or players with proven AFL experience.

“These selections will give the club flexibility to achieve those aims at the trade and draft table this year and next.”

Everyone was hoping for pick 11 to help with our trading strategy.
AFL ended up giving us even more in point value. How is this bad? We were never taking a player with 11.

The only bad thing is no sanders.

We now have enough to make a play for GC #4 and some change.

We absolutely would have taken a player with 11 with no Sanders.

But I agree.

3 x picks inside of 20 is plenty of ammunition when you factor in we have 2024 R1 & R2 picks as well as likely 2,3,14.

We effectively have 7 x R1 picks + another top 25 pick (R2 24') and what everyone would consider 3 x top 5 picks up our sleeve.

If there are no caveats on the 2 future end of 1st round picks next year then bundle them with our pick#19 from this years assistance package to give to Gold Coast for their 1st round pick..

Would Gold Goast accept this and can they use these additional points this season..
I think it's a good offer for them as they get more in points value (2808 in exchange for 2034) and by pushing two of the picks into 2024, they won't burn pick 4 entirely on their academy kid. We would also quietly assure them that we won't bid on any of their academy picks.

If we trade these to get up for Sanders, with our current list composition we are absolutely braindead :drunk:

With potentially 8 x top 25 picks in the next 2 drafts, we need to address speed, a small forward, a small defender, key forwards, key backs and a ruck prospect.

With those picks, we can pretty much get the best of the draft in a lot of those specialist roles.

Do not go and burn these on ****ing journeyman footballers.

TBH, the only trade I want to hear about is getting GC's Pick 5.

I'd like to take almost all of them to the draft.

Better than nothing.

However, given we are historically bad in a win loss sense this should now be the basis for any draft assistance.

No more start of first round picks.

If we weren't bad enough for one, no team ever will be.

I agree. Philips, Powell and Sanders are all 100% mids with little flexibility. Unless you trade one of them, would be a silly decision.

If you can't trade the F1s you'd have no faith the AFL won't strip them next year

I struggle to get my head around what "review next year" actually means here. So if we win too many games next year the AFL will strip us of TWO first round picks? Isn't that encouraging us to lose? Don't they discourage tanking? What's the threshold to keep them?

My only answer is that they want us to trade them now so they don't have to deal with that.
