Bruce says Martin is : SPECSHOOOL!!

Denis says : Martin, bobbing up like a cork in the ocean...

Great to see there is someone in a Richmond jumper finally who has some definitive class & is dangerous!!

Yes Fyfe is having a great second year.... but over the first 2 seasons Martin has been better....

anhow here is a nice puff piece...... straight to the pool room.

Interesting article nut. And most rank Matthews as probably the greatest of all time.

TRIPLE best-and-fairest winner Wayne Schwass says Richmond's Dustin Martin could end his career with the versatility of Leigh Matthews and 500 AFL goals to his name.

Martin has kicked 21 goals this year as a midfielder pushing forward, capped by his career-high five goals against Brisbane.
North Melbourne and Sydney star Schwass says no player has reminded him more of Hawthorn great Matthews, who kicked 915 goals.

Schwass said if the 2009 national draft were re-ranked, he would take pick three Martin, then Melbourne's pick two Jack Trengove, then No.1 Tom Scully.

These Fyfe vs Martin threads are getting tiresome, neither club supporter base is willing to concede to the other.

I will say Fyfes overhead ability makes him the standout though!

You could say that and then I could say Martins amazing strength combined with his elite kicking outweighs.

Also Martin has proven to be a very good mark as well. What Fyfe lacks is disposal efficiency...bit of a merchant here!

That's been his only game below 15 disposals; Judd had 11 (i.e. one third) from his first 33 games.

After 33 games:

Code:

Cotchin, Trent 20.12 9.3 8.3 17.6 4.2 0.5 2.4 1.3 0.5 0.4 0.3
Black, Simon 20.96 10.9 6.4 17.3 3.1 0.2 2.3 0.9 1.2 0.7 0.7

Hayes, Lenny 20.46 7.8 5.8 13.7 1.8 0.0 1.5 0.7 0.5 0.4 0.2
Add to that:
363 contested possessions to Judd 364
145 clearances to Judd 118
211 long kicks to Judd 175
124 one-percenters to Judd 121
Judd's PB was 26 disposals; Martin's is 35, with 5 other 26+ games

None of which proves conclusively that Martin is better than or even equal to Judd at the same stage, but the comparison is not as sacrilegious as you and others assert.

I see Ricciuto an Voss, but where's Buckley?

Introducing.... Drum roll....

This thread is not about who is better than who.... it's about who has the best start the their careers.
At Richmond I think Cotchin is better than Martin by a bees willy... but Martin has had the better start to his career.
The media loved talking up Selwoods first 100 games... saying it was the best first 100 games I'm just saying Martins first 34 has been better than Judss and Selwoods first 34.....
and if Martin continues his form his second year will be btter than both Judds and Selwoods.

Enjoy him while you can. Once those Islander hormones kick in this guy will turn into a big, slow lumbering lump at about 25 years old. That said, has been very impressive and is clearly the best of that draft.

And lots of people are telling you you're wrong, don't get mad about it.

notsureifserious.jayyyyypeg

Argument settled then.

I can guarantee you no freo supporter would he willing to give up Fyfe for Martin. They are both extreme talents. Fyfe has already proved to be our best
Player this year in a side that is struggling. He will be a future captain at our club.
So Richmond suppporters prefer Martin, Freo supporters Fyfe. Guarantee neither would be willing to swap.

Maybe because 100 games is a milestone where as 34 isn't.
Let's just say Dusty is the best 2nd year player ever with stupid looking tatts around his neck.Happy now nut ?

I think he left out buckley because of age..... he would have been 22 when he knocked up 34 games.

Yes. Like Greg Williams, Buckley was almost 22 by his 33rd game. Averaged 22.4 disposals to that point.

Enjoy him while you can. Once those Islander hormones kick in this guy will turn into a big, slow lumbering lump at about 25 years old.

We'll have to keep him off the turtle then. ;)

I love Tiger supporters.

If a thread is about Cotchin he is the best because he cops a heavy tag
If a thread is about Martin he is the best because he cops a heavy tag
If a thread is about Deledio he is the best because he cops a heavy tag
If a thread is about Foley he is the best because he cops a heavy tag

Just pick one you muppets and stick with it.

martin is an absolute superstar in the making. anyone who thinks otherwise either hasn't seen him play or has no clues about footy. the start to his career has been the best i can recall in recent times - yes selwood was gangoed on about from the get go, but have a look at the team he was in. ablett chapman bartel ling corey etc. pretty handy being the 4th or 5th midfielder behind those blokes i would have thought. never copped a tag for 3 years, whereas martin has been copping attnention in a relatively poor team in 2010 virtually straight away, and this year as the team has improved so has martin. he is more dynamic than selwood and his ability to kick a bag of goals elvevates him as well. potentiall yhte best player in the comp within a short space of time

Why do our fans keep starting these threads on the main board? That's exactly what our board is for, these 'love in' type threads don't do anything to help our reputation, how about we let a soon to be 20 year old kid finish two seasons before we all start comparisons?
