sorry to disagree with you but they aren't citizens of this country by definition, neither is dusty dad, as an Australian citizen you would be locked up not deported, if they are non citizen I have no issue with deportation,
what I was highlighting before you left wing bleeding hearts stepped in was the different standards applied to dustys dad and "others"

I mean, I'm not here to try and stur the pot or anything. I don't even have a 'wing', just an opinion. Not sure why you should label me as such.
No idea, but why should it matter if they're a citizen or not, anyway? Why should a citizen have the 'right' do so something criminal.
I don't understand how people can be all like.. welp, so and so came to this country and did something wrong. They should be deported (I'm not saying they shouldn't). Yet, a citizen does something wrong and we don't even hear or cause a fuss about it.
That in itself is "racism", to a certain degree, because depending on the ethic background of the person, that determines if it's reported on or not.

no I disagree with that if an Australian citizen commits a crime then he is dealt with by our system of law, and that may include jail etc, if anon citizen commits a crime or is dare I say of "poor character" then well they can go back to the country they came from and take their character with them.
In this case dustys old man whilst having a questionable history has not to the unwashed eye commited any crime other than having a reputation for past deeds.
all I was highlighting was the two different standards.
But Dusty's dad was locked up about 12 years ago. Since then he's not committed a crime that has warranted conviction. So his measure of poor character is meted out by a government department. Is this justice, I thought the state and the judiciary were separate. So now its okay for a politician for whatever reason, and in this case it is because the government want to clamp down on bikie gangs, to be the judge and juror. Not my idea of justice.

Not to be too pedantic (well actually it is) but none of us know whether he has or hasn't committed a crime since. All we know is that he hasn't been caught committing a crime that has led to a charge.

Hi all, apologies for the intrusion but this is a really interesting topic.
Regarding the above post I thought it was worth a mention that it's been widely reported that much of the youth crime wave is said to be heavily influenced by organised crime syndicates who recruit these young guys. You reckon any of these syndicates might be bikie gangs?
it's possible yet Shane Martin (as far as we know) has not had any connection to bikie gangs since 2004 or thereabouts

Anybody know why Shane didn't become an Aussie Citizen in all this time? Is it possible because of his early criminal record he was always refused it?

Your MIL isn't the person we're talking about here and I should hope not with the known past of Shane. I was just curious why somebody who had a criminal conviction before 2004 didn't become an AC if he really wanted to stay here . Just thought he may have also been denied that right. If not then he would have not been in this scenario had he applied for AC.
Well the MIL thing was a bit of a MIL joke, but okay, what it also says is that heaps of people have lived most of their lives haven't taken out citizenship. Don't ask me why. They (Immigration Dept) send a Swedish bloke back who was in his 50's because of a drug habit history from memory and minor crimes, and he'd been here since he was two years old, didn't speak the language and was living on the streets. They've sent lots of people back to places like Iran, where some have been executed (documented). Don't know why they haven't taken out citizenship, should have, being Kiwi maybe he didn't think it necessary.
