People realise that they're will be other clubs offering more for Jaegar than us right? Offering pick 27 won't do anything. O'Meara has to nominate us and only us for us to have any control in this trade. Even if we offer 19 there will be clubs willing to offer 18 and so on. Until he says he only wants to come to Essendon, saying that we should play hard ball and not offer much won't do anything. GC will laugh at us while they accept a much better offer from another club.

The key is convincing omeara Essendon is the club for him and tailoring a contract he is happy with. Once that is achieved GC have no bargaining power and they take our offer or cop nothing. No point even talking to GC until omeara is convinced to become a bomber.

GCS will laugh at us how? If all goes as you just painted it, if GCS don't accept the trade we will have first pickings in the PSD anyway.
Unless he only wants to come to Essendon and won't go to any other team, GC will accept a better offer from another team. Pick 27 is laughable

I've had another crack (don't worry this will be my last one for a while). Thoughts?

TRADES:
ESS out/MEL in: Hibberd + Pick 55
MEL out/ESS in: Pick 27 + 2017 2nd rounder (Pick 30?)
**I think based on the points system this is a reasonably fair deal, especially if the Dee's finish in the bottom half of the eight in 2017.**

ESS out/GWS in: Pick 19 + Pick 27 + 2x 2017 2nd rounders (ESS & MEL)
GWS out/ESS in: Patton + Flynn + Pick 14.
**This deal is basically #19 & #27 for Patton (approx. equivalent to Pick 7) and then the 2017 2nds for Flynn & #14.**

Probably won't even get him but it's a breath of fresh air being linked to a good player for the first time in 4 years after hearing about the grievance tribunal all year.

Both of those players were traded after they were going to their chosen clubs as free agents anyway.
So while on paper it's a trade it's not really a trade in the sense that the players don't have any value to the club they are leaving as the club they are arriving at can get them for free anyway.
So they were traded... so you can trade those players yes

Patton isn't going to happen. Also would think hams is gone too

If we went down that road there is no point making an offer. If I'm a 22 year old who is well aware of his football mortality I am taking the deal that offers the greatest length. A team will offer a three or a four or a five year deal and he will accept it. Offer a one year deal with incentives and his manager won't bother returning your calls.
Well keep the trigger clauses but make the triggered periods longer. If other clubs think he's worth more then let them pay more. No point us paying overs for a guy who may never play again. There's Fyfe and a bunch of other coming out of contract next year, no point throwing fistfulls of cash at the first OOC player we cross paths with.

People keep talking about JOM as if he's a gun player. He's not. He was 2 years ago; however fast forward to the present day and he's just a guy who's missed a couple of crucial years of development and can't play out a full game in the 2s without his knees packing it in. That's what's on the table, not Gary Ablett II.

Agree. Can't get excited about this at all. I thought I was worried about Patton's knees...JOM would be an even bigger risk.

How about pick 1 and next years 1st & 2nd rounder for Fyfe and Freo's pick 3.

Use pick 19 (948) and whatever we get for Hibbo 25? (756) and 55 (207) 1911total points to trade up to (Collingwood Trealor deal) GWS pick 7 (1644).

We take J O'M in the pre season draft.

Use pick 3 for Brodie and pick 8 for Petrevski Seton if he slips that far.

Dreaming... i know.

Fyfe has already stated he'll be playing for Freo next year so not gonna happen.

What's this about Steele to the saints? Can't find anything on it but have seen it mentioned a few times today in a few different forums. Anyone know what's happening?

Mentioned by Russell Barwick on SEN this arvo.
Plenty still to play out but the saints would be frontrunners

Whilst I would like O'Meara, unless you are 1000% sure that O'Meara is healthy. Then you don't pay him $700k, think of the ripple effect that could have on the younger blokes awaiting their payday and having to earn whilst this guy is getting paid for his potential.

I also would take pick 1 completely off the table. You don't risk the best shot your club has at improving on a huge risk.
