I really don't think Hickey would opt to miss this match, all things considered. Big man's been waiting forva decade to have a crack at finals, and if his desperation in the last two weeks is anything to go by, he wouldn't miss it for the world.
Tom has said in many interviews that family comes first.
I'm with Tom.

unless something yesterday has made it significantly worse, i think at the very least mills will start on the field ... if they've been managing him through some kind of problem all season, they'll get him to another week
yep, wouldn't be surprised if Mills plays

Hickey will play for sure.. He won't want to miss the game he's been playing to get to all year.. and his missus sounds like a trooper and won't want him to miss either

100% agree, just really wouldn't surprise me if he didn't want to pass up the opportunity to play finals before cracking into a big off-season of family life.

I don't think it's harsh on Horse, because 90% of coaches ever would be in the same boat. Clarkson played Rioli in the 2014 GF off a 2 month stint on the sidelines, and he was electric. Sheedy rushed Hird back for the 2001 GF on the other hand, and it wasn't a great call.

It just hasn't worked for us other teams it has, GWS rushed back like 5-6 players for the 2018 Elim final and they destroyed us.

Its a elimination final both will play you have to have a significant injury to miss out.

Now how much impact they will have is another matter.
Mills was subbed out. I truly doubt the AFL will allow Sydney to circumvent the protocol they put into place at finals time. It would highlight how the medical sub could be manipulated for finals. He ain’t playing imo

There is nothing in the rules that says he can’t play this week if the achilles responds to treatment.

You're getting it mixed up with concussion protocols here.

Nothing stopping Mills from playing this week.

My grandfather is 95 years old and has been going for South melb/Sydney since he was a young boy in Tasmania. He's been too ill to travel to even contemplate going to Melbourne. Would anyone have any tips on how I can get a couple tickets to this game so I can make an old man happy?

“3. A Medical Substitute can be activated immediately after it is determined a Player is medically unfit to continue to participate in the match and, due to the nature of the injury sustained, it is reasonably determined the player will be medically unfit to participate in any match for at least the next 12 days.”

Needs to be ticked off by the AFL if Sydney want to play him.

It sets a shocking precedent imo for finals. This board would be up in arms if say Boak was subbed out in a prelim for say a hamstring issue with Port running away with a bit more run in the legs from the sub only to be cleared to play us in the Grand Final after it was determined only to be “tightness”. Imo this is what the footy world was up in arms about when the medical sub was first introduced.

This is confusing

Key points:
  • Medical subs allow teams to replace players assessed during games as unfit to play for 12 days
  • AFL rules require any player who is concussed to miss 12 days and at least one game
  • The AFL decided against mandating the 12-day requirement for injuries other than concussions

That’s my point. It sets a shocking precedent which we may think is great now if Mills gets ticked off to play but could bite us on the bum further down the track and totally goes against what the spirit of med sub was bought in for. I remember saying to a relative that finals is when this will be manipulated and low and behold here we are. The media imo will be all over this this week if Mills plays.

Sounds like an extremely grey area. A number of players have played the following week so like a lot of grey rules I'm not sure how this can be applied. It is not reasonable to expect that medical staff can make a quickfire assessment on the field and conclude that a player is unable to play for 12 days. It is not often till the following Monday when initial scans, further physio etc are done that they get an idea. Even then its not conclusive some of the time.
If Mills is physically able he will play and Í'm sure there will be no suspicion in the AFL community that the Swans did the wrong thing.

Would love to see Warner back in. Apparently he was the swans best in the ressies hit out. If that was the case he has to be included. He is soo explosive which is the one thing we are lacking in the middle. If Kennedy and Mills are fit it will pose an interesting selection headache - surely cannot fit in Kennedy, Parker, Mills, Hewett, Rowbottom and Warner into the same team? I suspect that this won't be a problem as I doubt all of Kennedy, Mills and Warner will be ready. However I tend to think Campbell will need to make way for someone. He oozes class and ability but maybe not quite ready and hasnt had a huge impact in the last couple of games. I would have said Rowbottom but he was looking better on the weekend, that said out of all the mids he would be the first one out based on form. Still not quite at the level he was last year and a little hampered.

Sydney forward/ruck Joel Amartey played the first half but was managed later in proceedings with Ryan Clarke the Swans' AFL carryover emergency.
Midfielder Chad Warner was his side's best, Dylan Stephens was lively across half-forward, while AFL emergency Sam Reid loomed as the most dangerous forward.

When was Amartey injured?

I think they were holding him across for seniors in case we had an out.

I.e losing a tall
