Society/Culture Elon Musk - Takeover of Twitter?

The scariest thing here - and the conversation no-one really seems to be having - isn't Musk's weirdness around his children or his going off the deep end as far as conspiracy theories and assorted nonsense. For all that's... pretty bad, it's only a thing we're aware of because he's one of the richest men in the world.

The scariest thing is that despite purchasing Twitter for a little over double what it was worth at the time and running it as hard into the ground as he can - if he is trying to ruin it, he's doing a pretty good job - and making gaffe after gaffe at Tesla and whatnot... he doesn't seem to be getting any poorer.

If Capitalism was the meritocracy its proponents would have us believe it is, then failing as often for as long as he has should've resulted in some consequences for him, for making poor financial decisions at length over a large amount of time. Not only has this not happened, but Musk has grown wealthier and his reach greater.

Wealth is an insulator from the real, but the degree to which his mistakes do not seem to be catching up to him is... rather terrifying.

Don't believe Tesla will 'solve autonomy'? Sell the stock, Musk says; shares down more than 7%

Tesla Inc.'s Chief Executive Elon Musk doubled down on autonomy promises on the post-results call on Tuesday, but the lack of specifics on how the EV maker will get there dragged the stock down nearly 8% after hours.
Musk has said that Tesla "will solve autonomy," or some variation of that, several times in the past. The executive went a bit further on Tuesday: Tesla will solve autonomy, and "if you don't believe it, sell the stock."
That was the most animated that Musk appeared to be on the call, which was very short for Tesla's standards, lasting just about one hour.
The question was around a potential Trump presidential win and a possible rollback of the Inflation Reduction Act, with its tax credits for EVs and other green energy-related products.
Musk said that there could be "some impact" for Tesla but it would not be devastating for the company. The long-term value of the company is autonomy, Musk said.
Anyone who doesn't believe on Tesla's autonomy "should not hold Tesla stock," and conversely anyone who believes Tesla will solve autonomy should buy the stock, Musk said.
"All these other questions are noise," he said.

He's been promising autonomous driving is just a year away, for many years.
Almost like he's dangling a carrot in front of investors and buyers to keep his pyramid scheme going

Here's a thought, spend 5-10 minutes reading over the company's most basic of financial metrics..
Do they include observations on how BYD and others are tearing up the market with better vehicles at lower prices?

Where Musk had to go crying to the US government to hike tax on foreign manufactured EVs because Teslas look overpriced and worse quality in comparison?

Has Tesla ever been valued on it's financial metrics?

It's always been valued more like a speculative tech stock than an auto manufacturer AFAIK.
run and marketed like one too

Elon thinks the the earth can sustain 80 billion people.

People like him are pro population growth purely for one reason. Money!

Billionaires and politicians only see us as stats on a piece of paper, to keep putting money in their pockets. The more people working, the more money they hoard. We are already pushing the population bubble in terms of sustainability already as it is.

Lol. By the time (if) there is meaningful population growth he'll be dead. Billionaire =/= bad person, stop letting the left tell you how to think.

Not letting anyone tell me what I think. Elon and those around him already do a good job of that. Money or no money, he is NOT a nice person. Just a guy with a massive ego who treats those around him like s**t.

Never said all Billionaires are bad either. But comments pushing for everyone to keep having babies tend to often come from politicians and those with money. Again, their own mouths.

As for the billionaire = bad comment. Oh the hypocrisy, given the right bash billionaires daily. If you're not paying off the media, or supreme court judges. Or not hoarding wealth, like the type they like. Then you're some kind of Jewish space lizard part of the evil new world order. Funny how most of the more charitable billionaires are hated by the right. Yet crap characters and grifter types are worshipped.

Years ago yeah, not now. It's a public company, anyone can read their reports.
If ever there was a potential repeat of the old Enron mark-to-market shenanigans, its likely this crowd.
If you are that confident short sell it.

For those not in the loop. His son is not actually dead, he just transitioned and completely shut off her bigot nightmare of a father.

This guy is a real piece of shit. Like seriously ****ing evil.
