Just a thought in the past 3 or so weeks we have played all our games at ethihad and all the players have been slipping over all the time could this have been a factor In our form slump. The players have probably lost there confidence then they go subiaco play half a crap game and realize that they are sure footed and get on with the job of winning. Was watching on the couch last night and they said the Carlton players would rather travel to the west then play at ethihad what do you guys think ?

I blame the boots, as far as i know there are absolutly no boots out there that support a slippery surface quite like good screwins. Blades are absolutly useless on aything but a firm surface and the moulded soles AFL players wear tend to have longish but thin stops. I went out a bought a pair Nomis Spoilers and they have long thick stops and they s*** on anything that I have seen in the market in tearms of moulded soles on soft surfaces.

They are similar to this:

Perhaps the problem is not the grass or the fact that the grass lives inside. Perhaps the problem is the soil type that the grass is grown in...

If you watched Footy Cr-apified last night when they were talking about the surface, Caro did bring up how she talked to a Carlton player who said the team was so happy to be playing at Subiaco to get away from Etihad.

I wouldn't be surprised if after Kreuzer injury and seeing our players slip and slide if the coaching panel tried to alter our game-plan a touch to avoid certain hazerdous parts of the ground. I did notice during our slump that our play down the guts of the ground had reduced, although this could be our opponents blocking the central corridor, but the whole newly laid centre strip of turf is an ice-skating rink.

The ground's bad, but it's bad for both sides. The state of the turf isn't responsible for players not getting to contests first and not putting their head over the ball.

No-one to blame but ourselves.

that's a very long bow to draw. To play miles from home away from training facilities family and friends rehab etc must be a 4 goal differance at least

Think it was great to get away from the Docklands Ripoff Cow Paddock last week. They should shut the place down until next year. Instead of funneling profits into the pockets of incompetent greedy exec's at the AFL and Docklands, they should be using that money to make the ground safe for the players.

Hahahaha :thumbsu:

Agree though, I'm afraid for any player running out onto it, it's a disgrace.

The difficult part re: Etihad at the moment would be the boots. While the surface does shift easily, it is still VERY hard. If the players wear the long studs it wrecks their feet, yet if they wear the blades they can lose their footing. Which of the evils do the players go for?

Seems to me that most are going for the comfort aspect, and really i can't blame them.

That's right to an extent, the boots i mentioned earlier should not be worn in conditions where the soil is not soft and should probably be worn with an extra innersole. The extra grip can also be an issue for ancles so heavy taping is necessary as well. Then slipping all over the place is a hazzard too. But that is why all people who play footy should have two pairs of boots. One thing I'v noticed is that there aren't many wet weather boots in shops latly and it's probably due to the drought.

When stops penetrate the soil easily they aren't really hazzardous to the feet. I'd imagine that it is the soft, light, spongy soil that the grass is grown in is the problem. Probably chosen because it's the best soil type for the grass but possibly not the best for being a solid and firn playing surface.

Where is Wayne Jackson trumpeting how great Dockland Stadium would be - how "futureproof" and "state of the art" it was going to be??

Where is Rotten Ron Evans - who couldnt wait to shut down a Waverley and sell it off to his corporate mates . (thankfully Ron got his just desserts).

These two bastards couldnt wait to sell Waverley off - and ludicrously replacing it with a stadium half its size and telling us all how better off we would be.

Docklands might be easier for people to get to than Waverley - but it has basically killed off the ability any fan has to be able to "walk up" to a game.

And now its killing off any ability for a player to play a decent game - because this state of the art and future proof facility that the AFL promised cant even provide a half decent surface to play on.

Demetrispew isnt far removed from the blame on this either.

Its a disgrace and a scandal how the AFL bull shitted the public in selling off Waverley and putting the money in this stadium - watch the AFL duck for cover and spin things sideways when they try and come up with a 1 billion dollars funding package to build a replacement stadium elsewhere.

Well done Swanny:thumbsu:

Hopefully this means our next stadium deal will be with the G

I am hoping so as well Stamos.

I am pretty sure that the Etihad deal expires in the next few years.
From memory, Collo  locked us into that deal for 10 years when he was President.

Agro could shed some light on when the deal expires.

Blues skipper Chris Judd complained to the AFL and stadium management over the state of the surface a month ago after blaming the turf for an ankle injury he suffered against Fremantle in Round 13.

"He (Judd) might have had some encouragement from the AFLPA to voice his concerns because they thought he was the only one who they would listen to, but they didn't,'' Swann said.

Why doesn't it surprise me that AFL did not to listen Judd

Unfortunately I cant remember the length of the deal

But I do remember the reason why we do have the stupid deal in the first place and that is because the AFL (and by AFL I mean that bastard Demetrispew) would only give us a cash contribution to buy ourselves out of the existing catering contracts at Princes Park if we moved a mix of our home games to Docklands and the MCG.

No money was forthcoming from the AFL if we chose to move our homegames to the MCG despite the MCG providing a better stadium deal for us.

Conflicts of interest galore with regards to that decision:

- Ian Collins ex-President of Carlton and CEO of Dockland Stadium
- Ron Evans Chairman of the AFL and Chairman of Spotless Catering
- Demetrispew with his nose up Ron Evans' proverbial.
