Hate dealing with the Pies, but a pick 14 plus Brown (or even Dawes) would have been way better. Brown is in the same age group as our developing core, and pick 14 would have put us back in the first round so we could get anther young KP player. We'd then get 2 young KP players plus Mclean out of this trade/draft which would have been a more balanced result for our list going forward. We might have gone backwards next year as the younger KP forwards develop, but in the long term it would be a much better result. The problem is these 2 players don't suit our list needs IMO. Yes Bradshaw is a decent KP forward, but he's in his twighlight years, and the Lions have been struggling to get him on the park for the whole season. The other guy is excess to our midfield needs. Obviously a difficult situation for the Blues. Even though I rate McClean, when it became clear Fev was on the way out, they should have reviewed that decision. Perhaps they were looking for a KP option early on and that's why they stalled on the deal. Who knows. But we really needed to focus massive attention on KP draft talent this year.

Anyway, seems to be the deal is done. So all these what if's don't mean much. If the players in question are flying down, you can be assured they'll agree, and you can be assured Voss has already spoken with Fev, and he'll go there. Blues admin just want to get the deal over with.

They should at the very least hold out until Friday to give others the chance to put forward an offer after other trades get completed. I doubt they will. Yes we were never going to get market value for Fev, but I reckon it could have been handled much better.

:)

Don't know for sure, but what if the talks with McLean and Melbourne were too far progressed before the Brownlow to back out?? If we backed out on a handshake agreement it would be a dog act, and our name would be trading mud. Not good for the future.

Unfortunately our friend Mr. F is the villain and put us in a pretty difficult spot.....not sure how it could have been handled much better with not too many interested parties.

The two years playing for the Ants brigade is la la nutso land.

We are unlikely to win a flag next year....so why do we want Bradshaw? So kreuzer can develop?? what a load of ****!!!

He will give us one year!!! What's the point?? We would be better off trying our luck out with a pick in the 70s.

Your mate Ben Griffiths might still be available for our last pick at 59 ;)

HBF, that post is disappointing to me. Even if you accept the need to trade Fev it doesnt mean you should accept rubbish in return.

Since when is it ok to bring in 30yo+ players to a list? list filling from 7th position? FFS we are miles away yet we are supposed to accept this?

A list filler and a 30yo forward are not the answer.

Take a draft pick, scratch younuts, im sure there will be better bids.

We can't take what they won't give us.

And an 18yo KPF can't play from day 1 can they?

To those claiming the "principle" argument as why we have to get rid of Fev. Do you think Bryce Gibbs will accept "principles" instead of $$$ when the Adelaide Crows offer huge money to him to go home in the next couple of years? Money that Carlton will not have because of this insane Fevola trade. If Gibbs or any of our other young guns go in the next few years due to a lack of cash the "trade Fev" camp will have blood on its hands.

And what if keeping Fev meant one B.Gibbs wanted out of Carlton because he thinks the guy is a prize ****wit?

That's a possible scenario.

So you'd be happier to keep Fev than Gibbs?

I sure as hell wouldn't.

Maybe he'll remember the time we did the right thing to improve the culture and professionalism around the club and repay us in kind with his own professionalism......esp. if one of the rumoured Fevlow transgressions has legs :thumbsu:

We actually have an offer from Brisbane for Fevola.

So what?

All it should do is show Brisbane are interested, and shows other clubs what the starting price is. We take it on board and field offers up until the last hour of trade week.

Its not going anywhere.

How many trades start coming through on the last day of trade week? There's always a rush, clubs hold out and end up giving in. If the club accept this offer early tomorrow, all it does is show our club failed. Sydney NOW have pick 14 lets see what they do now....they have 2 first rounders.

It might be a bit premature, but this pic is on the front page of the HUN website

Definitely easier to stomach than the Filth's jumper...but everything looks better in Navy Blue.

Hopefully now that they've got pick 14 the Swans will give us a decent offer. Not very happy with a 31 year old Bradshaw.

You're right, club should have enquired about the 26 year old Bradshaw ;)

Yes Fev messed up yet how come no one has questioned the professional responsibility of channel 9. I ask why the hell did channel 9 give Fev a mic, camera man and a producer to do street talk in that state
How would questioning channel 9 have helped Carlton or taken back what Fev did? He's an adult.

Would my employer let me work pissed and then sack me, the answer to that question is no, any responsible employer would show a duty of care and not put there employee in a position of risk by allowing them to work in that state
He wasn't doing any work for Carlton at this stage. He was working for 9 and they sacked him. A matter for them and him.

My next thought is, the TV coverage clearly showed that Fev was smashed during the count, why didn't someone throw him in a cab
What you mean physically restrain him and drag him outside and put him in a cab? Hmmm, firstly he is too big and too pissed, secondly they tried to make him stop but he told everyone to **** off, thirdly he actually had a room with his wife and kids at the venue so he wasn't going anywhere.

My next concern is that I really do believe that the CFC has bowed to media pressure on this matter and maybe a better option would have been to suspend Fev like the Cats did with SJ
Wrong. Was nothing to do with the media, but everything to do with some things that happened that the media haven't reported on as yet.

My final concern is that I believe ego's have got in the may of decision making, instead of doing a trade with a rival club like Collingwood and getting maximum value from the trade, it seems like the club has short changed itself
You talking about the same Collingwood that offered us Pick 30 and nothing else?

We wouldn't have got a value deal from the Pies either and that is what we wanted. We wouldn't have let Fev go for a song to our arch enemy.

Collingwood's focus only turned to Jolly once Carlton said that they will not deal with the Pies
Untrue.

I'd say you have used a lot of supposition there, in an effort to blame Carlton for the whole thing. You probably should have read up on this a little more first.

Take the deal - Bradshaw will get three years out of himself, stays closer to the goal square than Fev - We get a midfield tagger, we don't have one - Joseph can go back to minding small forwards where he belongs and is best suited ( Thanks for filling the breach ) - Our culture will be team orientated and not about individuals - We won't lose any sponsors like we may have with Fev's behaviour.
All good for mine.

Really really going to miss Fev playing for the Blues. Absolutely kills me. AFL is filled with boring players, and boring teams. He's one guy who broke the mold. Didn't mind the occasional dummy spits, because his best was amazing. Hate this week, but I guess life goes on and the Blues have to re-invent themselves. I just have to assume that he did something unbelievably bad that wasn't reported in the media that other people have alluded to.

Well, where to now? Looks like the Blues are building a side from the midfield out. We'll probably have the best midfield in the AFL next year with ridiculous off-the-scale talent depth, and now's the test for those with KP forward ability on our list. Fev was getting about 80% of the forward 50 entry from our elite midfield, and now others will have that opportunity - Waite, Setanta, Bradshaw and Kruezer. Our small forwards are outstanding, and Yarran seems to be settling in well. Perhaps we can pickup some quality talls with some lucky later picks. Who knows. And the other positive I guess is the Pies KP forward's are still rubbish. :)

i dont like this deal. bradshaw is too old. rischetelli looks the goods but we needed to get a genuine young-mid age gun forward.

however if we do get bradshaw i wouldnt mind seeing Austin being thrown into the forward line and being groomed into a forward. he has the size and also showed some form this year when thrown forward for the ants.
if Austin doesn't go forward he has to play back and waite needs to move back to the forward line where he adds a bit of spark.

what happened to carltons youth policy?

The circumstances are horrific and it is somewhat like for like but there is no denying the fact that 30+yo generally come for free.

It may have to do but I hope we have not shaken hands too soon (again).

I still cannot believe that we did not consider Jolly - a big upgrade on all our present ruckman. He is 2yrs younger than Ottens - who has to be the injury yardstick for ruckman and yet he is going to go around again, Jolly would be good for at least 3 years.

And of course we could have traded Jacobs or Hammo (the latter for something very good of course)

ps Still wouldn't mind if we go McKinley

Hear, hear. :thumbsu:

Is a straight swap Fev for Henderson wishful thinking?

In hindsight would you guys have preferred pick 14 + player from the Pies instead of Bradshaw/Rischetelli? Shame things worked out like this, you guys are obviously getting boned and we could've really used Fevola. Maybe there's still a chance the Swans will jump in and give the pick to you but that media announcement makes it sound like all you need to do tommorrow is dot the i's and cross the T's to get it done.
