Carlton are getting royally stooged in this deal.

Would have been happy to offer up Dawes and Macaffer for Fev.

Two young forwards that will play for 10 years as opposed to a 31 (Next Year) year old forward whose body is shot, and an ok midfielder who pales in comparison to Judd, Murphy and Gibbs.

Yeah, great deal.

Hopefully the Blues are smarter than that, for all your sakes.

Well why haven't you done this already?

It's Thursday, and the only offer from you guys has been pick 30

In any event, Dawes is questionable, even those on your own board say he's lazy and disappointing, and McCaffer is young and promising but hardly a superstar. In any event, they're not key position forwards

Yes, Bradshaw is old, but at least he's a KP, which is what Carlton need.

Had time to reflect on this decision objectively. If this "trade" goes through.....

"Pros"
1. We get a good forward for 1-2 years.
2. We get an extra depth/defensive midfielder
3. The media will say we did the "right thing"
4. May have saved 400k per year, after paying the Brisbane guys. (Does this mean anything?)
5. Won't have to "worry" about Fev getting drunk any more at events. (Previous "incident" was March 2008 BTW).
6. Team unity is strengthened
7. Players in the club know exactly where they stand in terms of culture.
8. Greater chance Gibbs will stay at end of his current contract
9. The key members of our midfield won't have issues with the full forward they kick to. Right or wrong, what happened Brownlow night has caused friction between our current Full Forward and our midfield

Cons
1. We traded away the best FF in the AFL for peanuts in his prime
2. We've given Brisbane the best forward line for the past 10-20 years for the next 3-4 years
3. We've let Brisbane leap-frog the Blues and allow them to push for flags over the next 3-5 years
4. We've got zero draft picks out of the deal
5. We've got no young KP forward talent out of the deal
6. Bradshaw's age and history of soft tissue injuries
7. Caved to media pressure.

Decision options for the Blues:

1. Accept the deal
2. Reject the deal and keep Fev on the list and try to resolve the issue as best we can

Well, thems the facts guys. Good deal or bad deal? Everyone will have their opinion and it's not going to change anything.

Not that it means anything, but my humble opinion; A terrible decision. If this goes through it'll be the worse trade decision this decade and will hurt for years.

:)

Parrot, you raise some good points, have added some pros (in red) to your pros list.

On pure football terms, we're losing out.

However, it gets down to whether the success of a club depends purely on the individual efforts of each player on the field, or whether a tight, harmonious group all sitting on the same page and backed by a harmonious culture will be more successful.

For what it's worth, on SEN this morning Rishitelli's manager said the kid is happy in Brisbane and has a GF up there, and doesn't really want to leave

Our selection panel/coaching staff overrate our list.

Dawes is capable, and is still only 21, and Macaffer kicked something like 70 or 80 goals in the VFL in his first or second year (don't quote me on that) and can even go into the middle in a Pavlich type role.

Having them Both at FF/CHF would look very nice for you, with the two of them being Fed by the Fab Four in the middle. At least you'll get 10 years out of them as opposed to MAYBE 1 out of Bradshaw.

I would rather get nothing and have fev play at melbourne rather than see him in a Collingwood jumper. I don't think I am on my own with this sentiment.

Perfectly understandable.

I'm surprised Carlton are actually going through with it.

But I still think the deal I proposed is better than Brisbanes, and Fev would be happier staying in Melbourne.

At least it would give the Carlton Collingwood games a shitload of extra spice.

Nice response, Chaz Michael Michaels

Yep, you seem to over rate your list, and you prefer to give away draft picks instead of good players who, at the end of the day, probably won't get you a premiership. You have heaps of good, solid players, but few stars, but I'm certainly not the first to say that.

You need that mix of good players + X Factor players.

Fev would've be your X Factor and you probably should offered more for him. Really, he's that factor you lack on the forward line, a match winner. Then again the word was that Carlton wouldn't deal with the Pies as well, despite what Swann eventually said.

Don't get me wrong, I can see what Mick and the board are TRYING to do.

They're trying to emulate Geelong and Brisbane, by getting a young list together, that stays together for 5+ years, and 'grows up' together and eventually clicks and dominates.

In theory, that's awesome, and when it works, IT WORKS. But I don't believe we've quite picked up the right combination of players to achieve that, I could very well be wrong, but we've been trying for 10 years now and still nothing sooooooo.

Where if we pushed REALLY hard and got Jolly, Fev AND Ball, even if it meant a bit of pain, we would be all but GUARANTEED a flag, if not the next 2 flags.

So I can't see how going after all 3 really hard is an issue.

Your mate Ben Griffiths might still be available for our last pick at 59 ;)

Nope! His brother reckons his been told his going between 6 and 20.

(I think he will go 15-25)

this in todays HUN.... note the bold part I have highlighted below (under the introduction part)

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/fev-to-set-up-dream-attack/story-e6frf9ix-1225784031611

BRENDAN Fevola is set to join the Brisbane Lions in a blockbuster deal that will see him partner Jonathan Brown in a devastating two-pronged attack.

Carlton and Brisbane have struck an in-principle agreement in which the wayward Blue becomes a Lion in exchange for forward Daniel Bradshaw and midfielder Michael Rischitelli.
Fevola, who has been holidaying in southeast Queensland, is believed to be keen on the switch, which could be made official as early as today.
Lions officials informed an understandably shocked Bradshaw and Rischitelli of the plan yesterday afternoon.
But the Victorian pair, who will meet Carlton officials this morning for medical checks, did not immediately object to the move.
Last night they remained the only possible stumbling block to the deal, but it is believed Joel Macdonald and Rhan Hooper are on the table if Bradshaw and Rischitelli refuse to move.

Fevola, 28, and Brown, 27, occupied the top two spots on the goalkicking tally this year, booting 164 majors between them.
In the same forward line, the duo could transform the Lions into a top-four prospect and genuine premiership threat.
Lions officials have been working on the massive deal for several days, with football manager Graeme Allan involved since last weekend.

Brisbane champion Alastair Lynch, whose management team Velocity Sports has Fevola on its books, has also played a significant role.

The Blues were alerted of Brisbane's interest on Tuesday and have remained true to their word in their determination to offload Fevola, fed up with his poor behaviour.

The Lions say that with Michael Voss as coach and Brown as captain that they can keep Fevola under control.

It is believed the Coleman medallist is contracted to earn $600,000 next year and more than $900,000 in 2011 under a back-ended deal.

It is likely Brisbane would offer Fevola a new long-term contract, of which Carlton could contribute part.

Fevola will qualify as a veteran and only half of his wage would be counted under Carlton's salary cap. But he can't become a veteran at a new club.

However, Brown is set to qualify in the same year, easing any salary cap squeeze on the Lions.

To those criticising this move... Next year when we have the most dominant midfield in the history of the AFL, all you muppets will jump back on the bandwaggon, and frankly I don't want you.

Our Football Departments Knowledge >>>>>>>>>>>>> Your Opinion.

Ok will be winning the ball, who's gonna be kicking the goals? a 31 year old geriatric?

100% agree on that approach

But no disrespect on saying you overrate your list, because you have been making finals in recent years and had a great 2007, but in terms of drafting I think you do.

Trying to get the mix right is the key, and let's face it there's another 15 clubs trying to get that mix right.

But yeah, you should probably try and go a bit harder in trade week, because at the end of the day if you want a "wanted" player, you've got to be prepared to at least match what other clubs are offering.

We may not kick more goals, but we may be saving more.
Who knows?

Bradshaw will kick goals for us and a new structure will need to ba taken into account.
I can pull up many sceanrios here, but the most important thing is that we shall once again have a "team"

p.s. For all you vowing not to renew your membership, you have every right to be gutted, but no need to be gutless.
Stick by your club from day one next year.
Its time to move on
The king is dead, long live the king

DON'T Forget all the injuries fevs had and his recent operation he had he's a bit of a injury prone
I hope Carlton officials had or having nightmares of angry
supporters and hope they lose sleep over it ;)
are they trying to go back to Tanking days they are heading that way about it.

fev probly Would get away with alot more up there then he dose down here

Goood Luck to Brisbane if they can control his drinking Problems ;)

Don't understand how we can't manage to get henderson off them, where is he even going to even play with Fev and Brown in the Forward line?

I've just received an email listing all of Fevs alleged efforts on Brownlow night, if they're all true....actually if half of them are true then this is the deal of the century! I hope it comes out publically, the club should shame him somewhat!

If half of them are true then he would be sacked by the AFL.
