Review First Semi-Final – GWS Giants vs Brisbane Lions, Saturday September 14, 7.40pm AEST, Engie Stadium

We have only ever got a crowd of more than 20,000 just 5 times in Giants Stadium (out of 96 matches we have played there), with the last time being the Original Round match against Collingwood this year.
Good stats there Melb - maybe we need to temper our expectations slightly. In saying that, every Giants Member and fan should be out there this week unless they have a bloody good excuse not to be!

Now the lower bowl is basically single seats or one or two here and there which is nice to see.
Don’t think they have opened Cumberland or Sinclair yet.
Might be just above the eagles final unfortunately.
If they don't open and at least partially fill the Cumberland stand, it will be a "thing" in the media.

For anyone trying to guess at the progress of ticket sales, here is a breakdown of the stadium capacity to the extent that it can be gleaned from Ticketmaster's seating map.

Guessing the progress is still difficult, of course, because it is not always clear if greyed out seats have been released or not.

Total capacity is meant to be 23,500.

Lower Bowl (excluding Away Cheer Squad Area): 14,511

Cumberland Stand: 2,619
Martin & Angus Stand: 848
Sinclair Stand: 846
Vincent Fairfax Stand: 1,049
Suttor Stand: 850
Members Stand: 849
(Combined capacity of these stands is 7,061)

Charley Room: 211
Jamison Room: 223
See Room: 187
Council Rooms: 248
Playfair: 89
(Combined capacity of this group is 958)

The above amounts to 22,530, which leaves 970 left for the Away Cheer Squad Area, Standing Room, Corporate Suites and anything else that is not clear from the map.

When no seats are released in the Cumberland and Sinclair stands it looks terrible, but the impact on the attendance figure is not all that large (effective capacity drops to 20,035).

This is brilliant, thanks for sharing.

Only thing I would mention is that the club has reported the max capacity for footy games at the stadium is 22,500 rather than 23,500 which is officially reported.

Not sure how that impacts the above numbers. Maybe as you mentioned, the 23,500 includes the standing room and corporate suites?

It has always confused me why the Cumberland Stand isn’t better utilised. It’s construction was one of the key aspects in getting the Showground up to standard for AFL footy. It’s the biggest stand we have and it faces the TV camera empty most weeks.

This is great info, I've wondered it for years, where did you find it from, if you don't mind me asking?

From those numbers it would appear at least 15k tickets have already been sold then. But like you said, they can be shifty and release parts you already think are sold out at a later date.

The Cumberland stand needs some advertising over it. I feel like the only reason they don't do it is due to the criticism port got in the past. The difference is though, it's common in Sydney sports including the nrl and it's level 2 closed off, not random sections on the lower level like the power use to do.

My current prediction based on the seating map:
Green - sold out > 90% or more
Orange - partially sold < 50%
Red - not opened for sale yet

The views from the Cumberland Stand are probably among the best of any stadium in the AFL.
