Fraser Gehrig Or David Neitz @ Full Forward

Neitz by far! they aren't really comparable Neitz is a class act with sensational foot skills and the ability to turn a game...and has done it consistently over a long period of time. Gherig is more error prone and much more likely to clanger a kick than neitz. Whilst he has had some great games he doesnt compare to a nearly 300 gamer captain.

Anyone who doesn't pick Gehrig is either a Melbourne supporter, a total footballing ignoramus or most common of all, both.

I suppose you think Anthony Rocca is better than Neitz .

Neitz averages something like 4 goals a game in finals and is always there when the team needs him.
Gehrig has a habit of going missing at times.

this thread just goes to show how short some peoples memories are:

neitz has been a better player. he is unstoppable when on song and when he played in defence even carey said he was just as good as anyone he played on.

Not a bad question.

Still think Gehrig could have got even better as a backman and been sensational over the last 3-5 yrs...quick and powerful FB's and CHB's dont grow on trees. Neitz is a top class marking fwd that i always thought should impose himself more on the game.

In their prime..tough decison

Gehrig

Yes he's quick and powerful but he's lost his mobility and has the turning circle of the Titanic. Not a problem when you're the attacker - big problem if you're the defender.

Fraser Gehrig
1995 AFL Rising Star Nominee
1997, 2004 All-Australian
2001 2nd St Kilda B&F
2004, 2005 Coleman Medal
2004 Pre-Season Premiership
2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 Leading Goalkicker (St Kilda)

Also holds the West Coast and St Kilda Bench-Press records at 172.5kg

Has played permanent full-forward for St Kilda since the start of 2003, and in that time has kicked 343 goals @ 3.36 goals per game.

Does a sh |t load of charity work ... ran through the banner in his 250th last week with a disabled girl who he has spent time with. Spends several hours a week at hospitals with children, and is always giving people free meals at his restaurant.

One of the natural captains at St Kilda too ... often Gehrig takes charge of training sessions and directs the players, and he will always have a word in the ear of several players during the course of the match, offering advice and encouragement.

Gherig is a flat track bully. Neitz does the hard and inspirational stuff. Neitz is someone I always worry about matching up on, Gherig is not. Neitz kicks goals against my team, Fraser rarely does shit.

Gehrig kicked 5 in that Prelim against the Power in '04 ... hardly a flat track bully and hardly doing "shit" against Port ...

gehrig, and just for the sake of being savaged, i've been of the opinion for years that neitz is one of the most over-rated players in the league....one-dimensional and i do not think he's consistent at all

300 games at melbourne, big deal...."turn a game"??? exactly how many big games have melbourne won with neitz there? and how many of those has he "turned"?

C'mon dude no need to bag my opinion. I was fortunate enough to be at neita's record breaking game for melbourne and to see him slot through 8 majors the way he did was just unbelievable. He can kick em with precision from anywhere and always plays the game with class and inspiration. I remember back to when he played CHB on carey and not only destroyed carey but kicked 5 majors of his own. Now thats talent! Throw in AA, 2 best n fairests, a coleman, record number of games for melbourne, the captaincy, record number of goals kicked for melbourne and whatever else he's achieved and I see him ahead of Gehrig by miles!!! And how woz the effort a few wks ago against the bombers-busted hamy, busted knee and busted finger for a return of 3 goals. Thats the sort of leadership and inspiration lacking of fraser i would suggest. And when was the last time neitz was suspended? don't think gehrig the loose cannon deserves the same level of respect for his cheap shots at his opponents.

Good post, sorry rancidpants, most of your posts are great though!
P.S, Pity Neitz isnt a good bloke outside of football as Gherig is!

sorry mate, wasn't meaning to have a crack, you're entitled to your opinion....at least i wasn't asked to give my opinion of darren gaspar
you've obviously seen more of neitz than i have

Well I never, unusual to see so much support for the G anyway I have a lot of respect for Nita but in all honesty you have to go for the one that brings home the bacon, Fraser has been fantastic in front of goal and is clearly above Nietz , this is not biased comment, it's a fact.
Disappointed to see the majority of Nietz voters are Melb supporters, c'mon you guys, you are allowed to make unbiased comment, try it sometime.:):thumbsu:

no dramas dude u'd be right about darren gaspar though!!! he retired a year too late! or may be years too late! then again I can't talk our defence is shit! think the blue boys have conceded more points than any other team this season! but at least their young hopefully ratten will improve em a little...Haven't seen that much of neitz maybe i've only seen his good ones but i only remember them coz he stood out in them. Wish fev could have that sort of impact consistently...i mean he has the kicking ability, can read the play and has great hands but i can't help think he doesn't concentrate or doesn't have enough passion..maybe theres a new question-whos better neita gtrain or fev...???

As I said in my earlier post, Gehrig does hours of charity work each week.

The media don't report it because it ain't newsworthy ...

He often takes over a training session and directs things himself.

If that ain't leadership, then what is?

Gehrig is a guy who was All-Australian playing on a wing ... then 2nd in the B&F playing at full-back ... then won 2 Coleman Medals playing at full-forward.

i wouldn't even need to think....your man, fev....there's been talk the past few days that sydney will try and get him, and i would be a happy feller indeed, i love the bloke....he's copped it a few times, and done some dumb things, but his "body language" has been no worse than richo's and his two goals from chase-tackle-smothers last week were perfect examples of that freakishness he has, i'd have him wayyyy ahead of the other two
both neitz and gehrig have killed sydney a few times, but what annoys me about neitz is that it used to seem like his ONLY real good games were against sydney, then i'd tip the dees in a game and be watching and waiting for neitz to break it open, and he'd do nowt

will your blokes keep fev? by the way, i reckon you'ev got some of the best kids in theleague, and you just need to be patient, there'll be success at the blues soon....cam cloke, walker, gibbs, murphy, o'hailpin, simpson, kennedy.....

Well said - at last the truth is spoken.

Neitz is flat out inconsistent - yep great on song and then will do nothing for weeks after.

Gehrig as a FF - and the stats support it - is by far the more consistent.

As for all round footballer - Gehrigs speed and endurance on a wing for Wet Toast in early days was frightening. No doubt Gehrig easily.
