Freo fans: tonight hurts but at least be courteous to each other while venting.

Oppostion fans or anyone out to have a crack: don't post here. You will get banned and you will get points.

After watching the replay this morning, I was actually surprised to see just how badly we got totally done by the umpiring.
The problem with this game is as Freo supporters we were mostly expecting this to be an easy win (FWIW I did not), so when we find ourselves 7 goals to zip behind in the second quarter it is normal to feel extremely dirty/frustrated/disappointed in Freo. After all, as Freo supporters we have a long history of this type of thing happening to us when we get our hopes up.

While this will sound like I am making excuses and blaming the umpiring, that is not entirely true. I believe Freo were flat after the Adelaide trip and this is supported by our lowest total kms stats (AFL Tracker) for 2024. We also made many mistakes that cost us dearly (eg. Banfield misses, Reid's high FK with 3 seconds to go in Q1, etc...). And so many things other than the umpiring also went well for West Coast (eg. Amiss early concussion, quick kicks out of congestion finding forwards, etc...).

But all said and done, after watching the replay, with no other changes but fair umpiring, I am convinced Freo win that game.

At work this week when copping the West Coast supporters trolling, will I carry on about the umpiring as excuses for Freo getting beaten, No, I will talk about the other reasons that contributed, but in the safety of this Freo forum, the umpiring in the Slime's favor should be acknowledged.
The idea that the umpiring cost us this game is absolutely laughable.

We did not lose because of umpiring.

We requested this fixture as far as I understand it - we ask to play an Adelaide team either side of gather round to minimise travel, and we ask for Len Hall game at home. I don't think we can complain too much about the fixturing on this occasion

Yeah I wonder if we’ll scrap the week in Adelaide next year. Its hard not to look back on the experience with an utter bad taste in mouth

I couldn’t watch last night as I was out for my daughter’s birthday.
Despite reading everything on here I just watched the replay.
The first thing that springs to mind is the “it’s never as bad as seems, it’s never as good as it seems” quote from old mate Ross. We lost our best forward in the first 5 minutes (to a non called front on contract/hold/push that should have been a free) this completely threw out our front half setup.
Banfield cost us massively in terms of momentum and belief, he shouldn’t play forward until he sorts out the yips, it’s gone to Fyfe level with those two in the third that rebounded down the other end for goals. The two in the first were on the run, but the second was an absolute gimme goal and he grazed the post!
Regardless of what anyone says, the umpires were a significant impact on this game, multiple non calls in our F50 while the slime got at least 4 goals from nothing free kicks that shouldn’t have be paid (Darling got two of them).
when one team is allowed to scrag/hold/impede players while the other isn’t it has a massive impact on players belief and effort not to mention contested stats.
The eagles took literally all their chances no matter how slight in the first half while we butchered ours. I said after the Crows game we needed to spend our entire training sessions practicing our goal kicking from all angles in all situations, that clearly hasn’t been done and should be the focus this week before the season is lost.
Some players need to go back to peel. JOM did nothing, Erasmus is still a deer in the headlights and moved the ball way to slowly, Hughes should be replaced by Chapman, Banfield should be dropped, Walker cost us one goal with a brain fart HTB but wasn’t in our bottom 5.
There were some very odd positional decisions. Jackson should have started forward, with Darcy in the ruck, not waiting until Amiss is concussed before bringing on swaggy.
Overall we did a lot right, just our execution going inside 50 needs some polish and we needed another tall forward to avoid Barrass matching up on Sturt (which Sturt was never going to win when our mids lobbed it on his head, it was amazing how easy it looked when Young and then Emmett put it out in front of Sturt and he was able to run onto it in space).
Walters is fully cooked, give him a rest, he can come back in a month or so, but when we have so many other passengers, we can’t carry him as well.
Maybe because I knew the result I didn’t take it as bad as everyone else seems to have, but we did a lot right. The eagles just did it better.
On the eagles, they will win a lot more games this year, they have found belief and have a new messiah.

The match timeline says Amiss got injured and taken from the ground at 05:39 and there's probably about 30 seconds there were he was injured on the ground.

Captain Hindsight might have an argument that if you started with Darcy in the ruck and Jackson forward with the 3 talls set-up Amiss might not have been competing in a 2 vs 1 against Barrass and McGovern.

I was impressed with relatively measured reactions last night but I see we are now in full despair mode today.

Oh yeah it's definitely over for this club as far as I see it.

  • Rebuild has been botched because the kids are being lead through it by JLo and his friends. Bust.
  • Brayshaw has been relegated to a forward. Bust.
  • Serong hasn't grown 1cm since being drafted and will be playing behind Harley Reid in every Derby. Bust.
  • Darcy will only play another 50 games between now and the end of 2030. Bust.
  • Treacy and Young will request trades back to Victoria this year and next. Bust.
  • Likely Brodie off to Eagles, Frederick off to Crows in that same window. Bust.
  • Erasmus and Johnson are our real midfield future. Bust.
  • Amiss and Chapman will be best mates soon because they'll spend more time together in rehab than in the B22. Bust.
  • Walters, Hughes, Banfield and O'Meara all have looming extensions. Bust.
  • Baker and Warner to the Eagles.
  • Logan McDonald will come in end of the year at the cost of 2x FPs and become our most paid player. Epic fail.
  • Remaining picks will be used on best available 180CM half back flankers.
  • The timebomb for us that is the Tasmania club and the 3rd WA team will go off soon. It's over.

Is this a good despair post? :p :D

The most frustrating thing for me continues to be our lack of goal scorers. Say what you want about West Coast, their midfielders kick goals.

Their forwards, kick goals.

Our midfielders can't kick goals, definitely not from 50 out. Our forwards spend too much time worrying about chasing and tackling. Other than Amiss who is a genuine goal kicker for us?

Looking forward to the draft this hear where we pick a KPD, a sub 185cm midfielder and some skinny flankers just to top it off.

Club needs to prioritise putting the ball between the big sticks.

Also, I saw a lot of people complaining about a certain poster who continually bets against Freo. I put them on ignore about 6 months ago and the whole BF experience has been far more positive. Would reccomend.
Disrespectful to Treacy but I agree with the rest.

I think Treacy is doing fine considering where we picked him. He cares and has some semblance of goal nous.

It's just frustrated me that for years now we have prioritised everything bar the forward line. We need to invest draft capital on the forward line, stop treating it like an after thought.

Sturt kicking bags in the WAFL and not being picked due to lack of tackles is a great example. If we kick goals we put on actual pressure, not allow the opposition to waltz it down their end and have a 12 point turnaround.

Can’t argue with any of that

This game really needs to be viewed as game 2, 2017, where Ross made multiple changes and some people were never seen again (like Dawson and Nick Suban).
This time around it should be Omeara and Hughes, with Banners and Walters being on thin ice.

Walters should honestly be apart of that game. We're basically a man down given what he offers right now in the worst part of our ground. Even sending him to Peel seems ruthless and I'm not sure he ever works his way back.

I like the suggestion of him being a sub. Can still lead on gameday and be vocal from the bench.

When he comes on however, I would have him attend the center bounces and try and cause some spark / chaos in the middle. Coming on as sub to play the role up front he's been trying to seems like a waste.

I see this Reid vs Fyfe video posted all over the place, people having a laugh at Fyfes expense. https://www.theroar.com.au/afl/vide...n-his-backside-gets-sat-down-himself-1346117/

The irony is that Fyfe put a block on, won the contest, allowed freo via Brayshaw to take possession and kick away. Reid then pushes Fyfe over after the contest when he isnt looking anymore, had zero impact impact in that moment for his team.

It was a cheap moment when Fyfe was off-guard.

When Treacy hospitalizes Reid next Derby we'll see whose laughing.

Slime supporters would love this video because it is just another example of how they get looked after by the umps.
If the reverse had have happened with Fyfe all over Reid scragging him off the ball and then putting him on his butt, the umpire would have blown the whistle with such gusto he would have popped the ball out the whistle.

Probobly the only silver lining in that game was the fact that they beat Richmond last week
I mean, imagine how unbearable it would have been had that not been the case

Umpiring did not cause the loss

Of professional athletes cannot recover from a trip to Adelaide we better re look at their fitness and recovery plans .

That comes down to the club and especially the coaches . For 30 yrs we been travelling and eagles travelled in their premiership years and won .

As fans we need to stop maki g excuses , this is not amateur league . This is the professional . Act professional , hire the right fitness teams and put recovery plans in place for after travel if deemed necessary

Lol. compared to leagues around the world this is an amateur league the fixture is unfair and a joke, changing of rules on a regular basis you expect players to act professional and yet the umpires aren’t thats just off the top of my head, year it’s an amateur league which lacks integrity.
