Fremantle vs. Essendon [Round 4] PS

I see that freo were really troubled by all those stats. He must be in your dream team. Plays like dal santo with a wig. It took a few years for the esendon supporters to wake up to Stanton getting a million possessions with zero impact it wont be long before they wake up to heppell too.

What the **** do you want him to do, he go got he ball more than anyone on the ground, tackled more than anyone on the ground, won the ball from stoppages more than anyone on the ground and won his own ball just as much as anyone on the ground. Oh but his team lost so it means nothing he is just crap. Gary Ablett kicked 14.7 one day and his team lost comfortably so I guess he was no good that day either.

I hope Heppell cops the same criticism from ess supporters that zaka cops. Absolute crab. Kicks the ball 20m sideways hoping for a little one two. I know hes one of the slowest players on the list and that's his role but he is terrible. Not suited by the modern game.
OK bloke thanks for sharing. If you don't mind I'm going to go with my observations along with the commentary team, the journos putting their BOGs together and everyone else that was at the ground or watched the game. He was one of the best on the field.

How about you wake up and realize that he's a good player.

played games with Chappy & Fletch and the loss of Myers & Goddard was telling in the middle.
One rotation down early on as well. And with no ruckman, any chance we had was lost with BJ' groin (yeah, i had to).

We were never going to win in a game where we couldn't get the ball forward and Freo just couldn't miss. So much for Lyon's negative game style. They were super efficient going forward.
Nice response after not turning up to the hawks game last week.

Cats & Hawks best 2 teams this year. Dockers looking up there after a blip last week.

Essendon losing to these 3 teams isn't the worst thing that can happen, but the gap is there.
We won't progress while our bottom 4-5 on the field are Jetta, Colyer, Van Unen & Ashby. The latter two need more time to develop. The former two don't punch at the level we play at with Fletch, Chappy, Myers and Goddard in the squad.

Fyfe - Ryder
Barlow - Belchambers
Walters - Chapman
Mayne - Fletcher
Ibbotson - Myers
Mundy - Goddard

Injuries are not an excuse for either side...

We also had injuries to other best 22/next in line depth players in Dempsey, Kommer, Pears, Ambrose, Hams.

Freo was good for the win though.

Well if he kicked straight maybe they would have won. :p

Bombers had the worst outs

7 of their best 22 out compared to freo's best 5 out.

The bombers had no ruck because of injury, forward line non existent because of injury and they lost a bit of strength in the mid-field when Goddard and Myers were out before the game.

Take into account freo being looked after the umpires and the huge home grown advantage you realize the bombers never even really had a chance of winning.

Freo are much better than the bombers and will most probably be in the gf again, but i honestly think if both teams were full strength the bombers would have won :)

Just LOL.

If you're relying on Kommer, Hams, Ambrose and Pears... you are in trouble
"If you're relying on your backup players, you're in trouble"

Wow! Really? Thanks professor! What other in depth insights can you offer? I've heard rumour that Aaron Sandilands is good at the ruck because he's tall. Can you confirm?

Lol at Matthew Lloyd picking Essendon to win by 30 points, even proudly enforcing so on the Sunday Footy Show.

This was just so transparent. Essendon are the same ol' Essendon. They beat 2 sides who played disgusting, unaccountable football, Hawthorn put them away early before taking the pedal off.

They can't handle contested football. They are the uncontested 'don't lay a hand on us' Kings. If they got the Kangaroos of yesterday V Sydney it would have been a completely different game. People (like Lloyd) are fooled because Essendon love the flat track, they LOVE putting poor sides away for big margins. Freo could have stomped on them yesterday and made it 80 points. What's the point though?

Teams don't respect them / don't rate them. Proven by the fact that oppositions so rarely bring their 'A' game against Essendon.

Spot on, Fremantle handled there injuries far better than Essendon, they obviously have a lot better depth. I cant believe Essendon are being written off after one game losing to Freo in Perth though.

I reckon you will find he wasn't the only one who picked them, I think everyone under rated Freo's depth and it proved to be far better than Essendon's. As far that other garbage you just dribbled i am not sure where you are coming from there as all both coaches from the sides we played in the opening two rounds said they expected Essendon to go deep into September (including Alistair Clarkson) so I asm not sure where the "don't rate them" comment is coming from.

Thanks Captain Hindsight. I look forward to your prediction of who'll win the flag in mid-October.

Can't handled contested Football? so that's why they are +40 in this area for the season? Yesterday was the only game they had lost the contested possession count so far this season. You are so far off the mark here it's not funny, just making up shit because you obviously have a disliking for Essendon.

err, what?

Freo 26yr 2 months 106.7 games average
Ess : 24yr 5 months 74 games average

From your round 1 game you lost 4 games and 3 months experience. From our first game of the year we lost 24 games and and a year of experience.

Add to Goddard going down early and it makes it ever worse for us, but then you had Mundy go down in the second half.

Game was decided before the first bounce.
