I get that we're a young side and we're going to have weeks like this, but feel like the absence of any fight whatsoever is the hardest thing to cop.

(Faint) positives? I thought Henry was better and at least trying to contest. Ras was encouraging with minimal game time. Jackson was good but faded and was missed up forward. Serong and Brayshaw worked their way into it, with the corollary being that's the absolute bare minimum we should expect.

The way the small forwards collectively run hot and cold re pressure is an increasingly growing problem. Banners has tickets in the bank, but he's just about cooked them over the last couple of weeks, and Switta and Shooter haven't been all that much better.

I'm done with Sturt - junktime goals after the early misses aside, he's just not up to it at this level.

Feel like they need to roll changes to give everyone the requisite rocket and allow Ras, Worner, Emmett and even Sebit to show what they can do.

junk time? One of his goals was when we were a few goals down?

was about the only bit of the game I saw. Two good pieces of play from Henry, culminating in Sturt doubling back and slipping his man and Henry hitting him lace out.
then almost straight after Young kicks back inside, turns the ball over and we cough up a goal.

then I went out again thankfully

You mean that 2009 game vs the crows where we kicked 1.7.13?

I was there. Saw out the full 4 quarters.

Meh there were games in our 2017-20 period where we kicked 3-5 goals. I didn't care after the 2nd half of the season as we already got our 3-5 wins in the 1st half of those seasons.
Yeah I'm talking about 2008 at the G when we were 56 ahead at half time and lost.

2009 was at least so bad it was kinda funny

Key moments and points that stood out for mine:
(1) The ground seemed fine for GWS but it was treacherous for us; not sure why that was the case, but our players played as it it was going to rip with every move. Regardless the GWS midfielders worked really hard defensively, whereas on our turn our players will slipping over trying to make ground.
(2) It felt like Jackson couldn't win a tap and it just got into the GWS midfielders hands first way too often.
(3) Young kicking across half back into the centre, not going near anyone of our players and it getting picked off and resulting in a goal. I know he and Clark have a license to play aggressively and on instinct, but there is aggressive and then there is suicidal. Having said that I thought he lifted in the second half
(4) O'Driscoll getting the ball at one point on half forward (I think that was the second quarter) and I was thinking "please don't bomb it in! please!", then he bombs it in, it gets picked off and taken down the other end for a goal. Like Young though, I thought he put a lot of effort into the second half (his disposal was still pretty bad however).
As an observation I thought your first point was more significant than it appeared. I reckon the some of the players lost confidence with the surface due to it shifting while they were changing angle or under the non-kicking foot as they planted it to kick - especially when they were off centre of balance when kicking. Some of our kicking was unusually atrocious all night.

But suggesting someone like Kuek come in when Darcy is coming back and we'll get to return to the triple J structure is just people not putting any thought into their suggestions.
Kuek has pace and can mark the ball. He is tall but agile. Defensively we wouldn’t lose much if he came in ( Banfield had one tackle for example ) but might give more offensively! It’s probably a moot point if the clearances are as bad as today.

Anyone for "midseason heavy training block"?

Trading pick 5 and 6 for lobb, Hogan and Sturt.

10 and medhurst for tarrant.

Reiwoldt went 13, Ben Reid 10.

I could go on, these decisions kill us long term.

5 and 6 could have helped set up a premiership

Lobb and Hogan gone

We have nothing from draft we were meant to be rebuilding

Remember we lost B Hill and L Neale to that draft

We seem to be the only team super dependent on our ruck as well.
We are so clearance or bust. We aren't going to transition from defence to attack well. Our mids aren't quick enough to counter not are we skilful enough to pick a zone apart by foot. Basically if we don't win the clearances we are screwed.

Garbage selections rewarding the same players who get picked every week, even when they don't perform.

Failure to prepare the team to play GWS, in Sydney, on a ground with very specific dimensions that favour certain types of play.

Abysmal failure to prpepare the team for the start of the game, leading to yet another scoreless first quarter.

And a complete failure to adjust in any way the game plan during the game, leading to yet another game where we score 1 goal or less per quarter for 3 quarters of the game.

The problem is the coach and Bell, end of story.

Just to be reinforcing where we are going under this coach.
I do miss the days of Joan and the interviews, back when free to air TV was more than reality tv, Murdoch tripe and Kerry Stokes/Murdoch/Costello trash.

Oh and geez the clothes of 1987, I had so many of these outfits...

It's all JL ever references. 'The Contest"

Well basing your game on winning stoppage/being hardest in the contest every week is either exceedingly naive or just plain idiotic.

You have to have modes to your game. What's Plan B?

We have to be able to recognise quickly when our stoppage game isn't going to get it done, and shift to a sag off, turnover game to win it back on the outside rather than just sacrifice the forward set up by pushing another forward into stoppage to hem the damage.

Shit footy. And 'embracing chaos' after you've embraced insanity for three quarters ain't it JL.

You aren't seriously arguing the contest isn't crucial, are you?

Second, Longmuir talked about the importance of ball movement and turnovers in his press conference just today.

How did you manage that take from what I posted?
