Review Freo go down against the Hawks

I believe he was sub last week?

4 touches for 2 goals?

He did his job but I agree the game has gone past him
I'm not really a subscriber to the "game has gone past X", rather being particularly specific to the sub role and what impact it can have. Even last week his sub cameo showed Walters lacked the verve you'd hope to get from fresh legs near the end of a game.

Few points here:
  • Reidy must be shit. He’s never played a game at AFL level and to be honest I’d say there’s a good chance we delist him if Knobel turns out half decent.
  • Frederick does very little. Gets a free pass too much for my liking and a week or two in the WAFL would do him the world of good. Just coasting at the moment. In the comfort zone.
  • the inaccuracy kills us. Sturt didn’t have a good game today but we needed go get the ball in his hands inside 50. Instead it was Voss who created plenty of chances for himself but has no goal kicking class.
  • Amiss mental yips are horrible. It’s a real concern for me.
  • Walters deserves a farewell game and that’s all - he’s slow and weak out there now. Not at the level anymore. A great champion but his time is up.
  • Fyfe was decent in the first half but fell away after HT. he’s a different case from my POV.
  • Aish out, Walker in.

He's done unless they tinker his position in the side. I suggested that when he comes on as Sub, he should be played through the middle, just to provide something different and maybe weave some X-Factor at CBA.

He's coming on as a sub, playing for frees still, trailing people with fresh legs and not being able to stick a tackle to save his life.

He's a complete liability and offers nothing.

Newsflash doomsayers. This game was hard and brutal. We did plenty to win, but bad kicking is bad footy, and those sodas at key moments from Amiss/Voss etc hurt.

That's one of the best and hard-at-it midfield units going, and we matched them more or less. Wrong end of a few calls but got some too.

Those calling for Fyfe's head, we'd have missed his grunt today, trust me. Walters though seems to have gone on a bit long. Didn't lose us the game though.

Darcy would've been the difference for sure. Jackson needs to work on his marks, been off all year in that respect.

Don't think many teams would've stood up to that today down there. Dust off and look forward to playing Melbourne minus Gawn and Petracca.

We'll make finals, and we can win on the road.

Agree with all of this.

Looks like Sydney, Brisbane, and Carlton are practically locked in the top 4 for now. We have games vs Port, GWS, Geel and Ess still to come. Those will determine if we make the top 4 more than this game.
The only team that is a lock is the Swans, many of the others are very inconsistent from week to week.

People questioning Max Kings huge contract on the way

Luke Jacksons is far more embarrassing

I wouldn't go that far, and that's coming from someone whose only post in the Game Day Thread was a petty drive-by post calling Jackson garbage.

He's just not in the best form, and I've mentioned this over the last couple of months serveral times whether we won or lost. His best and worst is very noticeable because he's a genuine difference maker, just like he was in the Melbourne GF win.

Max King on the other hand has done absolutely nothing to warrant the rumoured contract.

Hawks played well, we did not. Our missed shots cost us dearly considering we were not up for long enough in the game.
They basically tagged our midfield and ran off as soon as they won the ball. It's what they do, their entire defense is based on their midfield not allowing good looks into the 50.
A very annoying side the Hawks are, lot of players I don't rate but they work hard.

Typical Hawthorn fans, love to play victim.
Doing a fair bit of that ourselves. People actually think the umpiring is corrupt, or some sort of AFL conspiracy Truth is that they're not very good and more likely to be swayed by a home crowd. We kick our goals and the umpires have no influence.

This is something I don't get either, why were pundits and people saying we had an easy run home? I looked at it and thought I must be going crazy. This was well before even last weekend.
Never understood why vic media said we had an easy run home. Brisbane, Carlton, Geelong, Essendon have better fixtures, but apparently ours is easy.

I think the hawks are well coached and organised and playing above their talent level a bit because of that.
I’d have concerns long term that they still may not have enough talent to win flags in future. They will probably finish 10th now and get one more player at pick 12-13 but is their more or less talent there than say, North Melbourne?

I know we’re starved of success and are desperate to win a flag, but is there a more miserable lot of supporters than us - winning or losing? I’m looking at social media and so many Freo fans hysterically self-flagellating how awful the team is. It’s so exhausting!

The competition is tight and we’re at the pointy end of it despite the inherent disadvantages that we have playing from the west compared to the cushy ride the Vic teams get in terms of travel. Our core is young and growing together.

Today was not ideal, but even playing as shit as we did - we only just lost that game against a good side that’s well drilled and well coached, without two of our most important players. Even then, had we kicked straight we would have won in a canter. After taking the longest trip in footy after a wet game.

Also, can we please also give the Hawks some credit? They were hungrier and stronger in the contest, and their pressure made us play poorly.

So yeah, I’m pissed we lost, but seriously!

It looked easy a month ago when Geelong, Port and GWS were playing like shit and the Hawks hadn't won 7 of their last 9.

Debatable but North Melbourne’s talent is younger even if the overall average age etc isn’t.

Got to say I respect that hawthorn has down their rebuild without getting handouts from the AFL each off season.
