At least we now know where we sit.
Comprehensively beaten by two Flag favorites recently - we are 10 goals off the pace at least , probably more in a pressure final v Swans or Blues.

Time to move the magnets and see who has potential from the VFL.
Veterans need to rotated more as it's obvious Duncan , Tuohy, Hawk, Rohan and Stanley won't be part of the next push for a flag.

The cohesion we are famous for was sadly missing last night - pressure was off the charts by both teams in the first half and we just couldn't go or get the game on our terms. We look insipid when moving the ball and all that dare and confidence we saw earlier in the season has evaporated. We don't look connected , there is very little support for each other - blocking is average , tackling is poor and we don't even pick each other up off the ground when we've busted our arse and got flattened. The little things have disappeared and we are so lacking in confidence.

We need to change our focus and develop some fresh options as this formula is done and dusted.............

I'll be at the VFL tomorrow and that's really the best way to judge.

Throughout the recent patch, I remain of the belief that Hardie should have been played, even as a stop-gap measure. He has the right instincts of a mature midfielder. And when Danger was out we just didn't have enough of those.

Despite what some on here speculate, it is possible that the selection committee are getting it wrong. They have a habit, for example, of playing one too may talls. 2022 was about the only year when we didn't do that.

I thought Benny Cas had a point last night on K-Rock. His basic point is that the VFL squad are doing everything right, 8 wins in a row whilst the seniors are struggling to win quarters, and the message seems to be that the same few guys bounce in and out of the team, with nobody else getting rewarded.

Scott's comments post are not encouraging. But may well be smoke and mirrors surprisingly.

Dempsey's ability to read the play and running patterns are improving significantly each week - some missed kicks last night but had the right intention without the execution - really enjoying watching him develop when things have been falling away in other team areas

He was definitely pretty much the only positive for the night.

I'm not saying it's possible, I'm just saying it won't be overturned

So youre saying the afl is run by idiots obsessed with lawyers? Hmm i wonder why.

Nah... not even average... well below it.

I'm totally fine with that as long as we are not wasting games that we could be getting into our next generation.
Yeah watched the game and certainly midfield ruck issues continue to be the problem . I guess we all thought we might be thin in that area….. at least Holmes continues to do well and has signed on…..bombers haven’t beaten much a bit like the cats so we could knock them off….

Miers also reported by the MRO - surely we challenge the Dangerfield suspension

Definitely worth the challenge. Danger did what players are instructed to do which is to drop to their knees to become dead weight which inhibits the forward motion. He was to the side of Walsh where he's required to be and tackled below the shoulders and above the waist. It was Walshe's pace at the time of Danger's tackle that was the main reason for the forward momentum.

Expecting a player to release an arm in those splint-second circumstances is unreasonable.

Save yourself the torture. I'm a replayaholic and am refusing this one unless armed with a swear jar and six bottles of shiraz.
Yeah watched at 1.5 speed . Certainly helped getting that over with……bombers have a decent midfield , so not sure about that one now after just posting we could knock them off….. De koning in ruck I guess helps him develop but certainly ruck issues with others continue…..

Eric Gulden today. 41 disposals, 12 marks, 973 metres gained. Just 1 or 2 players of his calibre would get the Cats back on track.
Bloody hell! Didn’t watch the game but I watched him last game and didn’t have those numbers , but I thought he was awesome last game. Good bloody work rate !

I really rate him but he's not infallible and I also think he's ben below par since our streak was broken.

Mullin - really looked good v Port as a mid yet we drop him and then bring him back as a defender. Our mids are one paced and Mullin can add something so play him as a mid in the 2's and elevate him if he nails it.

Cameron to the wing on the likes of Gulden is never going to end well , Cameron is an elite CHF - let him own that and trust him to move up the ground when he sees opportunity.
Playing him at FF and Tom at CHF for the first half ( looked like that on TV) isn't really clever at all.

Humphries has been tearing it up as a distributor off half back - rest Duncan and give him a shot.
Knevitt/Hardie/Mannagh - well overdue for a run in the 1's..............

Sure, but it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Just pointing out where Stengle sits in the wider view.
Without Stengle we would have dropped a few of those games early in the year and some of our close losses would not have been close. He has been our only reliable forward. Hard to compare him with Holmes. Both have been very good. Stengle wins in pure skill and for his ability to turn half chances into goals, Holmes wins in athleticism and ability to break lines. Goals are gold so I would always choose a good forward over a midfielder or backman.

Agree, but Clohesy has arguably been our best in the twos in recent weeks. George Stevens has also looked great. Ollie Dempsey was arguably BOG last night, these guys VFL form is just as good as Dempsey's was. At least Neale will be back in for Hawkins, I hope.

Because Henry's defensive efforts are still miles better than Menzel's were.
But in terms of ability and impact, before Menzell's career was destroyed by knee injuries, he was on another level to Ollie Henry. Menzell was one of the most talented players to ever play at Geelong. It was a real pity he had such a short career.

Brad close has dipped a bit this year would you think? Add Hawkins, Ollie and not much of Rohan our forwards with thin service haven’t been that good?
Guess it’s middle of the ground issues that don’t help the forwards firing.

Brad Close has avoided criticism all year, he’s been very average and I’d rather Mannagh.
