Rewatch of the game does anyone know what those flashing red and blue lights were behind the goal when Henry was kicking for the match?

This moment? I watched it earlier and initially thought it was something done by Richmond but then remembered it was our home game

Commentator screaming with excitement Rioli going for goal to write himself into the history books at this moment, Cometh the man, Richmunt heroes (cheap pass) blah blah rhubarb.
Ball goes up our end to Henry's mark, no screaming but in a disappointed afterthought says he got this cos he kept his eye on the ball.
No shit sherlock.

For the second time this year Geelong has fought back from a final quarter deficit to win a thriller at the MCG on a milestone occasion.

The first came in Round 3 when the Cats overcame a 30-point deficit to defeat Collingwood on a night where Joel Selwood became the most capped skipper in the history of our game.

On that occasion 19-year-old Max Holmes was named in the best and again last night it was Geelong’s younger brigade that helped overturn a 17-point final term deficit to record a thrilling three-point victory in Jeremy Cameron’s 200th game.

Chris Scott highlighted post-game game that this is a different side but one very much with the self belief that we've been accustomed too during his tenure as senior coach.

"We are a different team to the one we were even a couple of years ago and I think we will be different again by the end of the year, but we are building a bit of depth in there and it gives us enough confidence that if nothing else, if the game is going against us, we are not going to turn up our toes," Scott said post-game.

Four of Geelong’s top five ranked players on the ground were developing players with Tom Atkins, Tyson Stengle, Sam De Koning and Jack Henry each standing up in pivotal moments.

None more so than the match winning play when Atkins won the clearance, Stengle drove it deep inside 50 and Henry flew high to take an excellent mark and give the Cats the lead with a minute left on the clock.

Atkins set the tone for the Cats with his work ethic and relentless attack on the footy and opponent. He finished the game ranked first for centre clearances (6), pressure acts (29), ground ball gets (9) and equal first for Geelong (second overall) for contested possessions (13).

In his first game since Round 5, Henry impressed in his comeback for the Cats with two goals from 10 disposals after finding out he’d be starting in attack 20 minutes out from the first bounce after Gary Rohan fell ill in the warmup.

Stengle was another Cat who produced an eye-catching display in Geelong’s front half with three-goals from 18 disposals. The 23-year-old now has kicked at least three goals on seven occasions this season.

At the other end of the ground, De Koning had some nice moments too playing on one of the star key forwards in the competition in Tom Lynch. The 21-year-old had 12 intercept possessions and a team-high five spoils.

We've all been accustomed to watching the likes of Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins, Patrick Dangerfield and Mitch Duncan own the big moments and know they will again, but to see the next generation of emerging players stand up in finals like intensity bodes well for what's to come this year and in the future.

Important for Geelong to win at the G, Richmond's home ground. It was also good to see the Cats win on an off day for Hawkins and Stanley who both probably need to be rested.

Stewart straight to the tribunal, and in other MRO news

Jeremy Cameron, Geelong Cats, has been charged with Wrestling Marlion Pickett, Richmond, during the second quarter of the Round 15 match between the Geelong Cats and Richmond played at the MCG on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

In summary, the player can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for Wrestling is a $1500 sanction. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Ports season will be over by then i think we will beat them easily.
Melbourne at home is 50/50 as is carlton.

On your last sentence its a misnomer as compared to the top 4 teams of years gone by none of geelong bris carlton freo syd and richmond deserve to be top 4 all have significant weaknesses but three will finish top 4. Its a weak comp this year.
Not sure .
Great game Port GC .

Has Close ever had a clanger? the guy literally never makes a mistake. May be slightly off on a pass, but thats about all- decision making just so solid. 200 gamer incoming.
Sadly yes....the punch of the ball last season in the last round against the Dees, there a free was paid. But he's an assured player now whom one has confidence good things happen when he has the ball.

It was an enthralling game and one where after our great start the all too typical Tiger fightback came as we've seen so regularly in the most two recent finals we've played against Richmond. But this time it was some daring play, fast play-on and run which saw Geelong manage to claw back the lead. Then of course Rioli gets the Tigers back ahead, before Henry's magical mark and goal. Great that it was a win that is not always typical of Geelong, coming back against the Tiger tsunami which saw them kick something like 10 of 12 goals to get back and take the chocolates, it may give the side some genuine confidence about the rest of the season. Not many sides could withstand that sort of onslaught, the Tigers when they are 'on' are a fearsome side. Just very happy to get the W, and looking at the ladder, it's such a logjam near the top. Four sides on 10 wins, two more on 9.

Vital we get some good percentage next week against norf, I think the Cats will be keen to keep it going.

That’s what pisses me off.
I’m happy to have people have a conversation about the game. Yet if I want to do it over there I can’t.
The mods over there are no warning types, makes the site unbearable at times.
Hence why I just stick to our board

Could have been miles ahead when you think of those clangers into our F50:
Duncan, Menegola, Guthrie, Miers, O'Connor, Tuohey, Close, Selwood, Holmes.
Giving the Tiggs big backman the ball on a string, and with Henry covered, we looked too small. Menegola in particular likes to bomb it nowhere.
No wonder the big Hawk upground was all at sea, and that's not negating Richmond's efforts. Miers free and absolutely overlooked on a number of occasions, in favour of the long bomb - a confidence drainer. Zuthrie frozen stiff and taking far too long when anywhere near forward of centre.
Get Danger back.

Not to mention bombing straight to Nankervis in the last quarter.

Richmond is consistently 18th in free kick differentials, year after year. Their supporters must spend a lot of their time being outraged.

Not to mention bombing straight to Nankervis in the last quarter.

Yes, who was that again? Look - amidst all the joy for the things that went right, the truth is we made plenty of errors. Errors that we might not get away with on another day, and brain fades that are forcing close games on us after a good start. It's all very well to take your chances, play fast, but certain players just don't have the poise yet. Kolo looking at you. Some of it just looks panic stricken, forward line far from settled.

Still, have to balance it out, because of those players I named, a few gave brilliant passes. One bullet to Cameron by Menegola, and his second good pass to Smith was a slip fluke, but those midfield gets are gold too.

Also Richmond supporters:
Henry marks but Hawk into back: Screeching FREE HE TOOK HIM OUT*#$* flipping dog animal Porkins, hate these c....s.
Riewoldt into Stewarts back: #$ Cheats, umpire rort, AFL conspiracy

There's nothing worse than sitting next to manic supporters who don't know the rules or acknowledge fairness.
Invariably Richmond.

Nope. Average player. Was serviceable today. Always 2nd to the ball and turned it over a fair bit. Tackles well and tries hard, like Parfitt
In a long line of shit takes.... this is probably your best... or worse.... but the theory still applies.

He’s not getting 2 weeks. It will go to the tribunal and he’ll get 4 weeks and Cats will accept it and we all move on. And of course it’s severe. He was unconscious before he hit the turf. Was constitutes severe if that doesn’t ?

Lynch smashing players heads into the turf from behind.

Houli.

I can go on - but I dont want to see you banned for getting all uppity when the purity of a Richmond player is questioned.

Cursed Cat being given a holiday.. sets a precident as far as im concerned. Id like to see what he posted but I doubt it was worthy of given a red. From now on ... if they wish to treat ours like that then so be it ... then eat the bread you bake. Ban them all.
Im sorry you feel that way TC - you better than most understand how we try to operate here. Its sad that you have been forced to concede what you posted above.

We have tried to maintain the balance here and will continue to do so as we feel its the right thing to do. CC getting an infraction has us all wondering too but but he must have gone to their board and done something - but whatever it was im sure they feel it was warranted.

Didn't get to watch the game live so have just seen the full replay.

What a game!

That's the first finals-like game I've seen all year.

There was definitely something extra in it.

And don't underestimate what that means for our opponents.

Context is everything.

This game almost screws Richmond's season. They have a mountain to climb now.

Listening to the post-game coaches interviews, I get a strong sense of two individuals who hate hate hate losing to the other. I wonder if there's still something from 04 about it as much as the more recent tussles? But whatever it is, it's personal. Almost too personal.

What surprises me the most from the year so far is just how reliable three players have been: Close, Stengle and Atkins. Who would have thought at the start of the year that those three would consistently be in our best most weeks?

It was a delight to see Henry back. I think I recently said I was close to putting a line through him for the season. Well, where's that eraser? He can still play a big part. That pack mark at the end was incredible! Although I still think one of these days Cameron is going to take out one of our key forwards the way he runs back with the flight straight into their path sometimes. Maybe it's just me?

Favourite performance was Cam Guthrie. We've seen him get a lot of the ball in some games this year, but he just had that something special this time, a bit of the Max Rooke's about him - a sort of unhinged love of the contest. I like it.

If you find some time to watch the re-run of this game later in the week or in the year or in the next 50 years, I thoroughly recommend it!
