Id let Daz say who he thought..he was at the ground... but Narkle would be better than most of our smalls id have thought

Im still thawing out.

**** that breeze - read cyclone - was cold.

AFL listed -
Cuthrie is working his way back and moving well but needs more time and touch. IMO would get killed at AFL level this week. Same really goes for Hendo and HT, although Hendo needs more than HT. HT very vocal back there and Hendo was too - but they just looked rusty. To be expected mind you.

Still think Simpson will make it. Speed, footy nous and reads it well. Still putting it all together but IMO is getting there.

Narkle - is smooth in the contest and reads it so well.
This will sound harsh and is not meant to be but the eye test for me suggests he needs to not choose when to go so much. By that I mean watching him around the contest he would be in some of them and not so much others. Seems to not mind going for it so maybe it coaching or by design. Clearly backs himself to get it done - which is good - but will need to "unSmedts" himself in the Seniors. His speed and shake have gotten hm this far but AFL is the fastest of the animals and will eat him IF he does not learn to the speed of the game. Its great he backs himself and I dont want him to change that but to be aware of it going forward. Providing fit, will play easily 100 games IMO or more but expect teething issues. Cant deny the talent and ability. Keeps this u pand will play this year

Miers - further behind Narkle. Needs to cut the cuteness from his game. Kid can play too and has that footy "it" factor. Luvs a goal and has good vision but the cute shit needs to go. Has the ability to make Motlop type kicks and goals - needs to learn where to and where to not try them. Needs more strength and fitness to repeat contest but I like what he does and how he does it. Will get better but no debut this year.

Chook - Its an 18 year old Smithy. Inside hard nut. Scared of nothing. Will be very good but needs size and time IMO. Take you patience pills now and be rewarded in 18 months.

Abbott - Gets around the ground well and competes everywhere. CE has suggested that he didnt think Ryan had done enough to get AFL game - and watching to day Abbott was good but i didnt get blown away. Not saying Ryan is not good or cant play - but looking for a ruck star i didnt see one. The question is really is Abbott going to be better than what Stanley did last week. He's probably worth spinning the wheel to see how it goes but 1 game should not define him, he'll need more. If Stanley makes the North games his baseline then no for Abbott - but who the **** knows if that will happen.

House/Gardner.
Both did some nice things in isolation today but nothing screamed pick me. That said, they have been solid over the year from what I gather. House does read it well and stick his head into places some might not go. Henry has him covered however as a defender right now. Gardner also looked ok but is short on forward craft. Its time that he may not have.

Siggins - he's a goer. Tries hard and you cant question endavour. Competes every time but looks raw. Reminded me of Blitz early on actually. Tall, lanky, runner that goes for it.

GHS and Scooter - Both in and out of the play. GHS never stops trying and will always work the team ethic. Scooter seems to be out of touch to me or maybe I expected too much - but I could see both playing AFL again this year.

MOC - He is interesting. Sometimes Ryan Bathie and sometimes Blitz. Hard as, runs well but still learning the game IMO. I can see his work and why they kept him for another year but he'll need to get better in that time to make it. Hard assessment perhaps but it, like that wind today, is ruthless.

Good win in shitful conditions.

I’d look at Guthrie as trade material. He’s a coaster. With Narkle, Constable, Parsons, Horlin-Smith, Thurlow and S.Selwood all not getting a senior game this week we have enough depth for him to go. In my opinion it would be great to be able to trade back into the second round this year - he may be a way we can start to achieve that.

He's a free agent no one will trade for him. I'd consider him as an FA out but then we wouldn't get any compo if we bring FA's in.

Abbott should play seniors next week after that performance I'm not convinced he's going to make it but he's earnt the right to find out and I doubt he is likely to be worse than Stanley

He’d get 200+ hitouts to advantage (himself) and 200 goals considering he’d be the only player out there. Good confidence booster for him.

l wouldn't give abbott a chance in the afl, he's not up to it.as much as l don't rate Stanley. Stanley is the best we have at the moment.
Like iv said, there is only one way to see if his up to it and thats to play him.
His form in the VFL means he deserves a chance, his been playing really well and he should be rewarded..

Have to disagree re Abbott. He had an okay game yesterday, I know he had 60 hit outs but Haretuku beat him around the ground when it mattered (7 marks). No way is Abbott ahead of Stanley at this point, or even close.

Both are better options than Buzza.

If he does go on a big offer... id pull out of any thought of getting other FA's if we are going to get an end of R1. They just are not worth the loss of that pick.. Lycett and Dhouse ... what they will add is minimal... but having another R1 , not only gives us a good kid ..it gives us elbow room for next year. It would allow us to look at a player in a Danger like trade the 2019 and future 2020 to get a tall forward etc if we want.

and as it stands Guthrie is disposable. Good player yes ..but id rather be giving games to the next guy like Constable or whoever

Guthrie was not a level above watching him V Port.. he did with plenty in the tank but it was the kids that excited me.

Abbot was good in the air in a poor day... but he didn't impress me that he had the footy quicks to cope with the next level. Sure give him a game ..why have him on the list if we are not going to play him. He has a reasonable spring , and can take a mark. One may as well give him a go before any choice is made at years end

Abbot better than Buzza ... well bring him and lets see him do it.. I have my doubts
I'd rather play Abbott in the ruck and Stanley at CHF. As much as I don't rate Stanley he's a better option up forward than Buzza and Abbott is a better ruckman than Stanley.

Think your observation of GHS is good. Can't understand why we haven't made better use of him, could have become the Ling type tagger. He has a brain and does what is asked of him

Same old story, next week it will be a different 3 Players, by the end of the Season you will have a TEAM.

Next week our AFL, VFL and VFLW teams all have byes.

I saw the VFLW sing the song too after their win. They sung it with more gusto than these blokes.

To be fair, the girls just beat Darebin who are a perennial powerhouse in the VFLW. Was a pretty big scalp.

I'd rather play Abbott in the ruck and Stanley at CHF. As much as I don't rate Stanley he's a better option up forward than Buzza and Abbott is a better ruckman than Stanley.

My concern is that Abbott won't be able to carry the same ruck load that Stanley does and will spend a significant amount of time on the bench.

Then Stanley goes to the ruck and Menzel and Hawkins become our main forwards when Abbott is having a breather.

Watch Stanley in seniors and see how many times when he is manning the mark but doesn't raise a single arm

Seems it's another mark against our rucks is laziness manning the mark

I know you didn't see the game but it wasn't a case of unenthusiastically manning the mark. Abbott lost the marking contest 40m out from goal and turned away to curse and the Port player just strolled straight past him and kicked the goal. You'd get dragged for that in u-12s.

Folks, do we have to face the grim likelihood that...<gulp>...

The Waybill legend might be coming to an unflattering end?

I think Waybill was done a while ago TBH.
