Fair enough... Gotta eat.. Had some good games for us last year and thought height have made a rookie list spot..
But with House , Abbott and Stewart all getting a guernsey someone had to miss out..

It is a nice relaxed atmosphere at Torquay and we have played a number of games there in recent years, (Would love to live there) and I plan to be at this game.
Capiron was a good medium defender in the U18 system a few years back, so now in the right environment to develop in our VFL system, he may be a good pick-up.

Just a general statement re the VFL. Given the big turnover we have had, 12 new faces if you include Tuohy, will make interesting reading and watching. You would expect that all of them, excepting Tuohy, will play VFL. Then no doubt a few new VFL listed players have come to the club - so the VFL team will look quite different and I have no idea how it will go.
Being very young, with a sprinkling of more senior players, will still look like a young side most weeks.
It may well be that GFC, for various reasons, decided the best policy was to give Wells as many picks as possible in what was considered a good draft. That it has become harder to compete in the draft because across the board clubs are much better at identifying talent and the chances a draftee will make. I am talking about the Top 10 picks are pretty good and few top line players slip thru the net.
The gems that fell thru the net are obviously still there but maybe they are fewer in number. I don't have the stats so I am guessing here. It sort has the right vibe.
So if you give Wells more picks in a harder field - he may not have the hit rate he did but he will get still quite a few if you keep turning over players.
The big problem with that is that most draftees are 18 yo. And really you should give them 3 seasons to grow, develop and be fully prepared to be a best 22 player at a AFL club. Sure you can name a reasonable number that came straight in and did well - and by season's end were best 22. But I maintain that is not how most good players started their AFL career. Most spend at least a season in the VFL, then get some senior exposure and in the third year start to demand selection by consistent performances.
Maybe GFC believes 1 year is enough to maybe assess and elect to move, maybe 30 % of the new draftee on after a season (not sure what the norm is here for a pick 20 + re contract period for draftees 1 or 2 years ?). If they can do that I suppose you could maintain a reasonable attrition rate by this method.
In the second year maybe another 30 % of the draftees from the year before - do not get another contract. That is cumulatively 60 % of that year's draftees are no longer at the club and that opens the door to keep drafting 5-8 players annually (while still getting the occasional traded player) on a pretty much continuous basis.
You can't keep hardly anyone on the LTI list in this scenario, either. Well it could diminish the rationale for this high turn over policy. And when you act with speed you could well let go a few young players, who mature late and do well at other clubs.
Also harder to do if you get trade or a restricted FA - as that could cost a good pick, it might require two.
On the flip side it could work and within 3 years we have been able to have a really good look at 5 years worth of drafting - and that results in us having in 3 years a much more talented senior side. A side that would be complemented with quite a few young, long term talent.
Or maybe it was just a once off by the club moving so many on and picking up so many new faces. It just came time to do this many and it really wasn't a precedent. Not sure but the next two drafts will tell us the trend I think. Lots of F&S in next year's draft - 4 I think. Hopefully 3 in the ND (later picks) and a Rookie in that group.

Yep, it will be interesting to see how the new kids perform.
I will be keen to see Brandan Parfitt , Esava Ratougolea, Quinton Narkle, Timm House, Sam Simpson, Jack Henry , Zach Guthrie, Jamaine Jones, Mark O'Conner, Tom Stewart, Ryan Abbott, as the new draftees.
Of equal interest will be viewing the progress (or regress) of the previous years draftees.
Ie. the tall KPP Wylie Buzza, the slightly built but skillful Matthew Hayball (better known here as Waybill).
The young second year defender and our first pick in the 2015 National Draft Ryan Gardner.
Also the very renaissance looking Jordan Cunico, who is on the way back from surgery to both knees. He was probably one of the best AFL listed performers not to have debuted before his knee issues. And we will have to wait until James Parsons gets over his foot injury before we see if he has progressed. He was in my opinion, one of the kids who looked most likely in the VFL. He looked more likely to succeed than many of his AFL listed fellow draftees and yet he was a rookie listed kid who had a delayed start to the season due to a hip problem.

That is a big list to look over Rabbi.
Good to see you rate another prospect in Cunico.
Maybe in a year or two we may see Guthrie boys out there together - he could be similar to his brother - and a new Nankervis type set up could be on the field for us again.
But from what I read Parfitt and Stewart seem the most likely to debut this year.

- 6.30pm on 17/3/17 vs Essendon @ Simonds Stadium
- 12 noon on 25/3/17 vs North Ballarat @ Simonds Stadium
- 2pm on 1/4/17 vs Williamstown @ Burbank Oval.

Very pleased to see Waybill, Narkle, Gardner, Henry and O'Connor named here. I think we 'knew' that Esava, House, Zuth, Jones and Abbott were out injured but I didn't realise our very own SOS wasn't going to be ready to have a run yet.
Murdoch and Black (seem to be showing our intentions early here) drop back and Jed appears to be locked in to start the season in the twos as well.
Look forward to seeing how they go, and really hope Black shows something to keep some pressure on for spots in the ones.
