you pick one :D

Goggin Our Best was gonna be making free money with the Hawks at $2.40 too.

And a lot said they didn't care footy was back. Great to see them in here having fun!

Great performance all around. Had those horror moments in the first half to keep a deplorable Hawthorn outfit in it. Fixed those up and hammered home the ascendancy to get what was always going to be a predictable victory. Our home advantage this year will be even more pronounced, because it has little to do with a partisan crowd and all to do with the game plan based on the field itself. When teams like Hawthorn whose players have never played there before come for a trip, it's like taking candy from a baby.

Sorry but that is absolute garbage. Home court advantage is no less pronounced in the NBA where every court has the same dimensions. It's the crowd that makes the massive majority of the difference. I could list sport after sport after sport to prove my point by you get the idea.

Very fun and nice win. Great stuff.
Who would of thought after last night we'd see really good footy. We save footy again!
Hawthorn should be embarrassed. "Tough" guys off the ball but thought they were soft TBH. Very soft.
Dislike the fake crowd. Doesn't do it for me.
Parfitt looks like he's in the NBA with the cornrows and the little arm tatt. Was good

To each his/her own Spazz, but I prefer it to the mournful sound of a whistle echoing around the empty grandstands.
In fact I was really surprised at just how effective it could be when I first saw it used in NRL games a few weeks ago.

Funny when those working the faders get it wrong though, very incongruous bordering on uncanny - there were a few such moments, one that stood out was Ablett's set shot goal from 50 in the 1st quarter - the cheering was very abrupt and sudden; usually an on-target set shot like that gets a kind of slow-building cheer that crescendos in a more natural way ...

Yeah Parfitt rocking the Allen Iverson 'do with style.

I have defending sav for a while but he was rubbish tonight. I reckon his confidence is shot. He keeps doing this weird thing where he gets a slight bump from an opponent before going for a mark, and bouncing off like he has been thumped. Like he doesn’t even want to go for the mark just in case he drops it. I have noticed it way too often for it to be a coincidence.

Yep time to relegate the poo and wee scum after such a piss poor effort tonight. Cheers Jeff, great idea.

I'm a huge advocate of Ratugolea's and ultimately reckon we should continue to pump games into him, but he was really poor in the 1st half tonight.
Consistently 2nd to the ball against McEvoy who is not quick himself.
That's just not reading it.

I missed watching Rd 1 but by all accounts Esava was terrible.
However, it wasn't all that long ago that he was standing up in a cut-throat final against the Eagles defense in a Final.

I'd be inclined to persist with him, but I'm hoping the coaching staff let him know that his first half was unacceptable.
He was poor in the 2nd half too, but I thought he actually attacked the contest a bit harder, so in that regard there was maybe slight improvement as the game wore on.

One of the best aspects of Miers' game is his consistent ability to work back into a game after being totally out of it early on; he works out what's wrong, and fixes it.

I love his ability to make good things happen when he's around the ball. Either with his clever use, or a simple tap to space. Such a smart, natural footballer.

He's a pleasure to watch.

Personal preference I guess. So many times the crowd would roar and id be like "What Happened?" But it was just for no reason.
I don't mind just hearing the players and the hits.
Yeah, I don't mind the low hum they add in as idle noise during the contest. That's better than complete silence. But it was weird when they would suddenly 'lift' the crowd when some non-event happened, like a player took a standard mark. Also just sort of a weird disconnect with the unusual delay in the piped in response to a goal. Like an uncanny valley effect for sound.

The Good
- Parfitt stepped up in midfield
- Stanley was fantastic in the ruck
- Selwood was a beast and looked fresh for the first time in 3-4 years
- Ablett and Duncan were clean outside
- Small forwards were really effective
- Guthrie did a good job tagging and found enough of it to outright win the contest with Mitchell

The bad

- Hawkins was uncharacteristically anonymous but outside of ruck work no tall did much
- Narkle didn't have a great 2nd half

The ugly
- The backline was sloppy and lacked cohesion in terms of contesting in the air vs staying down
- We have very little run out of the backline. Henry, Harry, Blicavs, Bews, and O'Connor in the one team simply lacks the required creativity. It'll only get worse if we try to add Kolodjashnij to that. I hope Scott rethinks things.

Can't say I'm a fan of the fake crowd noise. They added it so that the game sounded more 'realistic'. Hearing any cheering at all at Geelong when the opposition kicks a goal is hardly realistic.

Loved Stanley's game - keep him there and stop stuffing around with the ruck. I really don't know about Sav, and I seriously wonder if he's had his eyes tested. Seems to misjudge the ball when it's coming towards him every time. I don't think his confidence is great either, seems to throw his hands up to create a contest but not really in the way players do if they think they have a chance of taking the mark. Henry I'm not sure about either, he had such a great first season and then seems to have fallen off a cliff since. I do love Atkins' work, I think he's pretty under-rated on this board because he's not seen doing the sexy stuff. But gee he does the hard stuff and never gives up, with some unheralded grunt in the forward line he creates a lot of turnovers that often make others look good. Rohan had a Rohan game. He'll usually be quiet and then have a game where he makes it his own. It wasn't his night tonight, but he wasn't a liability so I'm happy with him staying in.

The defence looked a bit suspect in the first half, hopefully just a bit of rustiness. I would prefer to see Clark in though.

The small forwards were great tonight, although Hawthorn going in with such a tall backline made it easy for them. Miers, what a great story. It doesn't matter where you're picked in the draft, I love to see a young bloke work his butt off and grab his opportunities with both hands.

We looked far fitter than the other three teams that have played Round 2 so far, great to see. Fabulous to see Joel looking so fresh too, the break was good for some things.

Good stuff.

I think Jack Henry had a few errant decisions but I'm willing to let them slide and line him up again next week. Rohan a little quiet on the stat sheet but he was getting involved here and there and doing the team thing. I really had to stretch to find those negatives.

I thought coming in Stanley was on his last legs. He was brilliant. Parfitt was also really good. Contribution was so even it's also hard to play favorites.

Am I the only one who thought Danger was ordinary?

He was definitely down but moved well and was maybe just a little rusty up against a tight tag. Had he kicked those two goals he missed which were very gettable then he probably would have been par for the night. I also thought he got better as the game wore on.

I liked the fake crowd noise. Ironically made it feel more authentic not less. Couple of moments when it could have been better but was far and away better than awkward silence

I'd really like to have a look at JJ next week and Scott mentioned Steven training the house down, interesting!

Completely agree. Was never going to match the atmosphere of the real deal but given the difficulty of capturing authentic crowd noise I think they did a great job. I was skeptic going in but it won me over. If the choice is artificial crowd sound vs real crowd then obviously it's no contest, real crowd is miles better. But if the choice is artificial crowd sound vs an eerie silent vaccuum where atmosphere should be, then I'm choosing artificial crowd sound every time. It wasn't a perfect recreation of the real thing - it was never going to be and never could be - but it added immersion and made me more invested in the experience. Zero noise leads to this odd feeling of detachment from the spectacle. It's weird.
