Review Geelong defeats Ninthmond by 38 points at their home ground... twice.

I’ve seen him get 30+ first game back from injury a couple of times now. I’d have no problem playing him either.

Was it earlier this year that he came back and was best on ground? Or was that last year?

Duncan’s first game of the year was v Hawthorn on Easter Monday after basically no pre-season and no practice games.

37 possessions, 10 marks, 6 AFLCA votes.

Esava is about 900x more effective crashing packs than Rohan tho. The big issue with fitting Esava in around JC and Hawk is that Esava's forward craft isn't quite there yet, he is still prone to bringing his man into Hawks contests. One big plus for Esava is that his ground work is pretty good. He applies more forward pressure than most KPF's and his contested work in packs is impressive. While the Esava as ruck experiment may have failed it appears to have given him a lot more experience working in congested packs, and that experience will help whenever he can bring the ball to ground. I do think we could run a forward line of Hawk/JC/Rohan/Sav, because Rohan and Sav both bring something defensively as well.

I just wonder whether JC can feast around the packs as Esava goes up alone with 1-3 defenders on him and brings it to ground? I luv JC’s out wide around the corner ridiculous goals when picks up of the deck. Leave Bics back and Esava and Stanley do the rucking. Miers, bics, smith, guth, and Menagola do ridiculous k’s each game and maybe rohan is added to that up and down.

This post has Sav written all over it. His lack of footy iq has him spoiling teammates, and getting in others way quite often. For this to all work he needs to be given clear directions on what he needs to do. The others are pretty smart footballers who are vastly more experienced. Sav has a fair but to learn. But he has some great leaders in the forward 50.
I'll see your baby shark and give you Meatloaf at the MCG in October...

Oi!

Good things happen when Meatloaf sings at the MCG. I won't have a bad word about it....

Ok I'm definitely with you! 👍 Yes, I do think there is no scenario where it is acceptable for a team who isn't even outright premiership faves to lose the flag 2 months out from the gf. Wait a sec...? That's not what I mean.. 🤦

That's ok I do run a logic remedial class if you are interested?:moustache::p:rolleyes:

Well **** - hoping this is speculation & not fact. Miers did play 87% TOG, so either happened very late or better yet, it's not that serious

Geelong fears small forward Gryan Miers may have re-fractured the fibula that sidelined him for six weeks earlier in the season.

Miers, who signed a recent new two-year extension, suffered the injury in the Cats’ 38-point win over Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.

He was seen limping in the rooms after the game.

If the injury is as serious as it was earlier this season, he would face a race against time to return before the finals.

The 22-year-old played 53 consecutive AFL games from his debut in 2019 until he suffered a hairline fracture of his fibula against Sydney in Round 7 this year.

He missed almost 50 days, returning to the VFL for two matches in mid-June before regaining his spot in the Cats’ AFL side in Round 16.

Miers has played the last four AFL matches, kicking a goal in three of those matches, and is considered an important part of the Cats’ plans in their pursuit of the flag.

Geelong is hopeful skipper Joel Selwood hasn’t suffered any major damage after being subbed out of the Tigers’ clash, but will keep a close eye on his corked thigh.

The tight turnaround for the Hobart clash with North Melbourne will be a challenge for Selwood, but the Cats will give him every chance to prove his fitness.

Shaun Higgins, a late withdrawal on Sunday, is expected to return.

JC and Esava would work as a better unit than Hawk and Esava. Hawk has awesome hands but he isn't a crummers butthole. Try to isolate Hawk with his defender one on one, and get JC and Esava moving together elsewhere in the forwardline with Sav leaping to draw JC's man in the air leaving JC to crumb along with the smalls and create an outnumber on the deck(Where Esava also provides value)

Having them as some combination is an awesome problem to have but I only want 2 of the 3 in the same team please

In 2 years …. Doesn’t enter the discussion anymore. Sav is 23 so it’s the now. Still it’s dangerous to be relying on Sav in a QF, prelim or GF . Must get Jez in.
My other comment said "Sav still to miss out because he won't be in our best f50 line up" because the coaches will go for Cameron/Hawkins/Rohan/Dahl/Close/Miers.

This is too true. I don’t recall watching a game and being so calm/confident, even when Riewoldt kicked the goal and they took the lead 8-6, I KNEW it wasn’t going to last and that we would answer quickly — which was exactly what happened.
In my opinion, it was almost like as if we were toying with them, AFL side vs a VFL side. Oh, how sweet to beat those guys on a such dominant note. We smashed them, and the final scoreboard don’t even translate the dominance properly because of their 2 finals goals. Should’ve been a 50+ points win.

I'm not quite as bullish on the win. Richmond are not a contender. Our record against the contrnders stands at a close win at home and a 5 goal loss. All 4 of our our upcoming games will be a better test than that

Not sure my ears would agree it was singing - I guess one thing I had to be thankful for that day is that I could barely hear him
There's something special about a train wreck like that though right? I mean, we're still talking about that performance today. I reckon he probably outshone, through some sheer perverse overconfidence in his relevance, a few of the pies players on the day.

Edit: Things to be thankful for on 1 October 2011. 1. Cats flag. 2. Barely hearing meatloaf.

It will be interesting to see how we go against the Demons. If we smash them, it'll have the feeling of 2011 and we'll go into finals pretty confident I'd say. A close win or a close loss won't change much either way. And a heavy defeat will look as though we're protecting ourselves for finals and that would obviously be a really bad sign. Also, in each of our premiership years, we've had a couple of really big wins. I mean, like almost record breaking stuff. It'd be nice to see a really ruthless 4 quarter performance against a few of sides we face in the remaining rounds.

Our biggest win in 09 was by 93pts. We didn’t go too crazy that year. Similar figures to this year to be honest.
I think we’ll beat the Dees comfortably but not smash them.

Hard to read that first loss to Melbourne, it was early in the season when we were massively underdone with a lot of outs and they were up and running.
The Bulldogs managed to reverse the result.
Round 23 should give a more accurate view of where we both sit.

Yeah the one I'm worried about is the Bulldogs tbh. Just saying or last few games haven't been really testing us
