This is a pretty good summary of the echo chamber on this board. There's not many (any?) high half forwards in the AFL putting up the numbers Higgins has over his past four games. Averaging 22 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal assist, 3.5 inside 50s - those are elite for his role.

Across the season champion data has rated him above average or elite in 25 categories! AFL fantasy points, disposals, kicks, handballs, disposal efficiency, inside 50s, rebound 50s, effective kicks, kick efficiency, effective disposals, contested possessions, uncontested possessions, intercept possessions, ground ball gets, clearances, centre clearances, stoppage clearances, goal assists, score involvements, score launches, tackles, 1-on-1s, marks, metres gained, and bounces.

Honestly, this board baffles me sometimes.
I dont follow CD so if that invalidates my opinion then ok.

But for mine. he is suffering from the Menegola effect - in that he is hanging onto the ball a bit long at times.
He's suffering from the Dahl effect in terms of goal kicking - he has no confidence and cant kick more than 40m.
And hes got a bit of the Miers effect - where he tries some lower % kicks when there are better options on screen ( I cant say live as im not there)

Could he be worse - absolutely - he could also be better. Ever player has flaws and these are what ive seen in Higgins last week.

So as I say - if that makes me an echo chamber - guilty as charged - but thats what I saw. And CD will probably have none of these factors in their stat columns. And that he's now a 250 game player - I do have the bar higher for him than the other 3 listed bc of the experience.

I was critical of Higgins earlier in the year but his past month or so has been perfectly fine, and if his formline continues its current trajectory he will be peaking at the perfect time of year. A good finals series (for him and the club) and the trade will be vindicated.
I am hoping that he is keeping something up his sleeve and will be a big factor in what will probably be his swansong finals series.

It's the eye-test. One of the great measuring sticks in sport.

His disposals don't appear damaging, gets caught a lot, he doesn't shepard or have much regard for his teammates.

Particularly those last two. As a supporter you look at that and don't want a guy like that in the side. Much less a side vying to win a premiership.

+1

He has come back from his “managed” in good order.

3. The Cats' 2020 Trade Period looks better by the week
Geelong's dealings in the last Trade and Free Agency Period were a slam dunk the moment they landed Jeremy Cameron from GWS. However, the acquisitions of Isaac Smith (via free agency) and Shaun Higgins (trade) are proving every bit as astute. Despite two or three uncharacteristic errors by foot on Saturday, Smith was terrific against the Kangaroos with his team-high 718m gained from 26 disposals, while Higgins was a handful against his most recent club with 23 touches and a goal. Both fit and full of run, the pair loom as crucial in Geelong's run to September with their outside exploits complementing the hard-nosed midfield. - Michael Whiting

Not to mention at this stage that Bombers/Giants rnd 2 picks both look likely to be in the 20's :moustache:

Ugly win is still a win. We will take the 4 points and move forward.
Loved to see Zuthrie and Krueger playing well, specially the debutant. Sneak peaks into our future are always nice when positive.
Onto GWS now. They defend as well, and so do we, so i’m expecting another low scoring game but with more quality footy than what was displayed against North. Our side played knowing they could win at any given point and the posture will certainly be quite different against the Giants.

All true. His last month has been very good and hopefully he continues that into the finals.

It baffles me the criticism of Higgins. It's as though some expected him to average 30 disposal and 4 goals a game.

He's been good without starring but then again he's playing a role and doing it well enough In a team that's lost 4 games all year.

This game was always going to be ugly, and I said before the game I'd be happy with a two goal win ... We did that without moving out of first gear.

Looking at the picture side by side with Cam, I'd suggest he's both slightly taller, and slightly heavier than his brother. I'd put it at more like 10-12kg's and 2-3 cm if his listed height and weight of 187cm and 76kgs is what he was drafted at.
He was listed as 184cm and 69 kgs by draft central the year we picked him up.

I didn't see the game live and only watched it in full yesterday. I was expecting it to be a really dour affair from all the gameday comments and the radio commentary etc. But actually I thought the standard from both sides was pretty high. North played a clever game against us and both sides were highly organised and had very good defensive structures. I felt they were genuinely one of the tougher opponents we've come up against in recent weeks and made it difficult to get the game on our terms. Seemed like we were just able to execute a little bit better with field position and a few very good goals from the likes of Blicavs and late one from Hawkins. Cam Guthrie thrives in these sorts of uncontested games where he can just control the midfield and Stewart was brilliant once again down back.
Congrats to Higgins on 250 games at the personal level. At the team level, I still think we should be asking questions about where he's at. Perhaps I'm guilty of the high expectations you mention, but I'm still struggling to see what he's fulfilling exactly in the team's system. Compared to someone like Smith, the discrepancy is glaring. Smith looks like a guy who has taken the time to do his homework on how this team plays and how he can help it to the best of his ability at this stage of his career. Higgins looks like a player who's in his first year on the list.

I'm not sure we can the flag with Sav, Dalhousie and Higgins kicking for goal. On the other hand, Menegola can kick great goals as he showed in the GF last year.

Higgins at least gets the ball; Dalhousie, once a decent accumulator, has low possessions and is an atrocious kick. In fact most of our smalls are very average kicks, which is going to be a problem come finals. Narkle is a good kick but I agree he spends a lot of time jogging after the play.

Cameron is desperately needed.

He's the key IMO, without him we cannot win the flag.

Thought we did pretty well considering Norf parked the bus and played to preserve rather than to win.

We missed a lot of chances to snuff the game unfortunately, but it's a cruel ground and we won't have to win a final there so no complaints here.
