Geelong for the flag in 2019?

Seems strange that we would choose to flog our players when they are clearly showing signs of decline as is. I speak of the older player like Ablett, Taylor, Tuohy, Henderson, Selwood, Hawkins.
We have a very lop-sided team. Young and old and not much elite talent in between (except for Kelly) where you want your potential premiership team to be.
Ramping up their training load would only see the young guys capitulate.

I mean you have a look at West Coast's best 22 and their best players are middle aged and elite. Yeo, McGovern, Gaff, Darling. Maybe throw Ryan in their now.
That's because it's clearly bullshit. Just because Scott insinuated that the team is about to fire again hardly makes it a reality. He's a fraud.

The nature of a mid season pre season is to hit peak fitness going into finals. Hawthorn and Geelong in their premiership years have done it when their W/L ratio has allowed.

Good friends with someone involved with the club who told me a few weeks ago that Geelong have been using the luxury of games clear to put their players through a “mini” pre season to amp up for finals. Great teams have done it before with good success.

I expect the Cats to be both barrels loaded and firing come week 1, but they wouldn’t want to slip outside the top 2.

FWIW I think it’ll West Coast and Richmond to grace the G on the last day of the season. Richmond are looking mighty fine, and WC are pumping at the right time of the year.
just like they normally do and go out in straight sets! Can't watch this team, sickening!

Cats looked a much better outfit with the inclusion of Parfitt and Narkle and smacked the Roos in contested possion which was a good sign.

It will be interesting to see if they can develop some momentum and give a good account of themselves up in Bribane next week.

If they screw up and end up playing their first final in the west or up north then another straight sets finals exit could beckon.

Should be flag favourites.
Not us or West Coast.
It's likely you finish top anyway with either us or Collingwood to take 4th.
Who would Cats rather play first week us or Collingwood?

Neither. West Coast.

ummmm no thanks. West Coast have far too many smalls who would cut us too shreds at the MCG.
Has to be Collingwood at it stands. At least their form of late has been just as shaky as our own and it's a legitimate 50/50 contest.
We've got the best defense in the league. Ryan and Rioli will find it hard against O'Connor and Bews.

The only team I'm fearful of on the MCG is Richmond

They were very flighty and nimble. Think you need to keep them in just for the pace and agility. What’s going with Rohan? Injured?

If Geelong bring their early season form then they are a good chance to win it. Jesus as a Cats fan you’d want to make a GF given the goings on since 2013.

They've won the most games this decade for one flag and one grand final appearance.

More than Hawthorn who won three flags and had four grand final appearances.
More than Sydney who won one flag and had three grand final appearances.
More than Collingwood who won one flag and had three grand final appearances.

Cats will be remembered as underachieving in the 2010s unless they win the flag this year.
Will any heat come onto their coach should they fail to win the flag this year?

They’ve just signed him up so I doubt it

Medial. At least a few weeks on the sidelines so might struggle to get back before the finals.

While his pressure is always first rate his ability to hit the scoreboard has dried up and might find himself on the outer.

We’ve just been consistently very good, rarely the best in any particular year.
However Chris Scott will feel the heat if more rot is served up in finals, but only from angry fans.
He’s still going to be our coach as this is year 1 of a 4 year extension.

Geelong have done a great job to be amongst the contenders for so many years. Amazing. I suspect that most other clubs would be happy to be in such shape and to be having chances to contend.
We have not been the best team or flag favourite in most of those years, although should have won some more finals for sure. And none of those losses has been easy to take -but that’s true for any team in a final. 2013 we were a tad unlucky and might have just about won that GF. It’s not easy to win a flag and even being the best team in it doesn’t guarantee you win it, as we found out in 2008, and you found out in 2018.
I’m not complaining-it’s been a fine run. Let’s see how this year pans out.

It is interesting how the top 5 have all won at least one flag, with Richmond and the Dogs the only ones out of the top 5. Consistent success is, goes without saying, the key, yet no real flash in the pan winners. Even the Dogs were contending a fair bit in the 10s.
