(I think we might be showing our age)

You can spin it any way you like but teams do not dominate forever and 5 years on top is a long time in the current AFL environment. Just listen to how the retired champs talk about their last couple of years when they played, they talk about how they always were feeling sore going into each game late in the season with the amount of wear and tear their bodies had accumulated of the years.

Port beating the Lions in the GF by plenty is one example.

If (and yes its a big if) Geelong were to lose what do you think the experts would say as to why? Even this week you coach said that your squad had defied the norm with the age of your list and how well you have played. I'd sugest this year will be the last for some time that Geelong go through a H&A season losing 2 games or even 5 games.

Enjoy it while it lasts is what I'm saying but don't expect it to go on forever and don't think other younger sides will pass Geelong over the next couple of years.

And yet Port also declined fairly swiftly after 2004 too. They weren't a young plucky mob, they were vastly experienced, hardened players that had gone deep into September in 2002 and 2003 also. They're just unfortunate that they didn't capitalize more during their window.

Chris Scott was part of that side that experienced sustained success and knows first hand why the era ended so swiftly and has managed Geelong accordingly this year. You're probably right that this may be the last big tilt but this year, the Cats are in great shape

I thought so. Seems to be a lot of hate for them, especially Masten, on the WC board at the moment.

And Corey is likely to play, but nothing is certain.

Yeah but that is no difference. Masten has a lot of haters that tend to ignore the fact that he has been probably our best player over the 3 weeks prior to the Carlton game. Was hardly our worst verse the Blues either.

Gaffs main reason for some people on our board wanting him gone is because of his light frame. I personally think his other attributes well and truly cover that.

No hate for Mcginnity on the board though. Some people believe he will be dropped but that's more due to position battles than anything else.

Our 17.5% superior Percentage says different...
Eagles scored the most in 2005/2006 IIRC. How good was their forward line?
Kennedy > Podsiadly
Lynch > Hawkins
Lecras = SJ
Darling > West/Ottens (as only a forward)
Nicoski = Stokes

How about somewhere in the middle?

Kennedy>Pods
Lynch>Hawkins
SJ>Lecca (In their current roles in the FL)
Ottens=Darling (Ottens more proven, Darling had a nice one but will go missing more often)
Stokes>Niko (Niko shown a bit this year, Stokes better over the long run, and still trust him more for impact)

I would be worried about rosa spending so much time out. He is easily in our best 22, was having a great year but it could be painful for the club if he's unfit.

If he does play hope he reminds everyone of his courage and gut running capabilities

One factor that historically comes into play but is only recognised / acknowledged after the fact is when teams that have been prelim or grand finalists for several years in a row run out of legs / gas and get over taken by a younger team with greater hunger.

If Geelong make the GF this year they would have played in 4 out of the last 5 grand finals. Thats 5 long seasons in a rowat AFL level.

Sure they are big favourites this Saturday but so were all those other teams that after years of deep September action were shocked by the new kids on the block.

One can only hope.:D:thumbsu:
The difference is that Geelong 2011 seem to have a lot more hunger then a team like Brisbane 2004.

So how come Kennedy has kicked more goals this year than Pods?
LeCras has kicked more than SJ, and Darling has kicked more than Ottens?

Isn't the measure of a forward the amount of goals they kick?

Amount of goals is certainly one measure - no doubt about that and great effort by your boys. I would say there is also an element of game style though that must also be considered.

Geelong kicked 300 odd more points than the Eagles this year - we don't direct a lot through our big blokes. They are targets for sure, but we score heavily from our flankers and midfielders also.

So yes, individually your players stack up well against ours, but as a team we put quite a few more goals through than your lot. What that means on Saturday is nothing though. Best of luck to both teams (mostly mine :))

An another note, just looking through the new SEN app and noticed an article that stated WC had won 1 of their last 8 at the G. A bit worrying for your mob? ;)

Any argument that pods is better than Kennedy is just trolling
Lynch is much better than Geelongs next KPF.
Stevie j is probably marginally better than lecras but lets not forget who made the AA forward pocket last year. Its probably a draw.
Darling better than geelongs fourth best forward
Nicoski better than geelongs fifth best forward

Geelong has a good forwardline, eagles is better
Wce have a good defence, geelongs is better

The teams match up remarkably well and it would be a close tussle on every line.

I think Johnson this year had a more defined role in the forward line. Lecca was partially ineffective in any sort of forward role because he spent so much time in the middle in comparison to other years. Anyone who actually thinks Lecca had a better year than SJ if compared in a similar role is kidding themselves. Lecca would go better as a no 1 forward type, but neither is being asked to do that atm.

Pretty funny considering Port wee one of the oldest sides in the comp in 2004 too.

Has about the same relevance as the fact that WC has never lost a prelim final against Geelong :p

Don't know if this has been posted, but sorry Cats fans:

"Umpires will be selected for continuing finals based on their previous performance...The Saturday preliminary final (umpires will be) Chris Donlon, Matt Stevic and Ray Chamberlain"

Your up against 25 this week.
