Of course.

It is very clear from what Scott said today that Port want a decision (either way) within the next couple of weeks.

Which is good for all of us because one way or another all the speculation will be brought to a head.

Bloody oath!
We can either move on with the development & drafting, or get a little excited we are getting a good midfielder come next season along with a fit Menzel & Varcoe and whatever other gem Wells picks up in the draft!!

And I wonder if port actually alerted the media to Scott and co going over to adelaide to talk to boak - given they obviously knew they were coming(port & the media).
Its all seeming to be a very very strange situation.

Heres to hopefully finding out soon what his decision is!!

So the truth comes out that the Power knew about the meeting before it happened? If Geelong rang them and told them Port look like fools for the way they have acted. Could it be Port that alerted the media? Their claims are stupid that it is Geelong putting pressure on Boak, Primus is the one making all the public comments about re-signing soon and not playing him if he doesn't sign on for next year. If this was made public by Port informing the media of the trip (and I have no evidence to support this just relying on the fact they knew before the meeting took place) then it is them who are once again, putting the pressure on him. There probably wouldn't have been a mid-season meeting if Port wasn't trying to force Boak to decide ASAP.

Port knew Geelong would talk to him ... well duh.

Whats new is that Balme contacted Rhode to say they would be speaking. when did this happen etc ... did they tell him they were flying over etc. Did Port expect this was going over via phone, or while Boak was in Geelong (2 weeks ago)

Primus has never said he wont play him if he opts out, hes straight batted the questions and said its something that would need to be considered etc etc. As late as the weekend Primus said the club would give him the time he needed, but that moving forward it would be helpful to planning if he let the club know either way.... and spoke about their good relationship and that he expected boak would be OK telling him if he wanted out.

If Geelong were simply presenting their case, don't you think they would have done that when he spent a week in Geelong (and they spoke to him).

Its as clear as dogs balls now that they had to have another conversation with him because they discovered things had changed. Scott wanted to talk to him .. .they already had done that, what he's not saying is what triggered the rush on sunday. TSW has explained what triggered it.

Read TSW's posts again, it wasn't a long planned trip over, it was rushed .... Boak didn't initiate it, theres a very strong chance that Port didn't know about the trip until it broke in the news.

anyway ... its all over now.

I believe he is going to give the media some news on where he currently sits with his contract.
Either signed with Port or need another month to decide things.

One of his good mates in Stewart has just re-signed with Port today though.

It was a taking the piss interview about his "marital" status.
Port boys stitched him up yesterday by suggesting to the media he had a new GF.

I am amazed the coverage this has gotten-not like he is Ablett after all, though could see him being handy at our club.

There is no evidience that Geelong contacted Port to say they would be talking to Boak. Port said they suspected Geelong would, but at no point did they say Geelong told them they were coming over.

BTW - I fully expect clubs to talk to players ... I think Geelong just had to be smarter about doing it 'on the quiet' and not turn it into a media circus/beat up.

Anyway, who cares now, he's staying.

From The Age today

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...pressure-for-boak-meeting-20120717-227ix.html

Scott insisted Port Adelaide had not been "blind-sided", with Cats football manager phoning his Power counterpart Peter Rhode before the meeting to inform of the club’s intentions.

The articles coming out new suggest Port was fully informed about what was happening. If it it true that Boak has been given two weeks to decide, I don't see how this is a big deal. It was been stated that Boak will be at Port or Geelong next year, so of course, if Port has given him an ultimatum like is being suggested he is going to want to speak with Geelong. If you read the articles that are appearing now from Geelong's side of things that sounds like what has happened. I also think that Port would have to be reasonable with Boak and let him speak with Geelong especially if they are giving him an ultimatum. This is just common sense that Boak (if he is considering leaving Port) would want to talk to the only other club that his manager said he would go to.

Lets not forget, Port played it cool with Geelong on Sunday night and then after they had received a barrage of calls and emails, changed their tune to the more aggressive tone. I suspect only to appease their fans and not because that was their original intended position.

Who cares where the meeting took place? Surely Boak turning up at Simonds Stadium for a tour would create just as much media publicity as what it would be like to meet in Adelaide. The location is irrelevant and you are making the critical assumption that this is a first meeting and not a subsequent one. If he is good mates with Selwood, you don't think he would catch up with his mate when home and probably a couple of other mates?? The assumption that this is the first meeting is a dangerous one and I would think it isn't but once again like most people that is purely speculation.

The problem with TSW is that I don't doubt he has inside knowledge at Port BUT he is starting to speculate on things about Geelong and how they thought (which there is no evidence he has any knowledge in Geelong) and I don't necessarily think Boak would be honest if he was leaving or seriously considering it. Was Ablett 100% honest with the GFC? The family card has been played again, and if I recall earlier the reason he would leave is for family. Not saying he is gone but a lot of this stuff is not straight forward and when dealing with these things, you are better off trusting a politician.

Things are definately not straight forward in this for sure.

Not speculating on anything related to Geelong mate, and have no hard feelings about how you guys have acted at all throughout this.

Remember you guys have dealt with Peter Rohde in this situation. He is horrendous. Not sure why Rohde said he was ok with you guys chatting to Boak, nor why we then 'back tracked' and said we weren't happy. If it was a communication issue, or confusion or what. But Geelong seem's to have done the right thing by us.

The only thing I have mentioned about the Cats is that they were told by a source close to Travis that Boak was set to sign at Port - and they wanted to state their intentions again in person.

From the Advertiser later today:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...boak-and-geelong/story-e6freck3-1226428107704

PORT Adelaide's war of words with Geelong has deepened with the Power refuting Cats coach Chris Scott's claims his meeting with out-of-contract midfielder Travis Boak was known to Port.

"As if we are going to allow a delegation to come to town to meet with Travis,'' said Power chief executive Keith Thomas.

Thomas says all of Geelong's meetings with Boak have been made without the Power's knowledge or approval.

The first was in June. After learning of the meeting, Port football operations chief Peter Rohde challenged his Geelong counterpart Neil Balme.

After an initial denial, Balme later confirmed the meeting.

Thomas said Scott's claims Balme had pre-warned Rohde of Sunday's meeting in Adelaide are also wrong.

"Balme telling Rohde of the meeting ... it did not happen,'' said Thomas.

I thought Port was the board that says the Advertiser is biased rubbish and no one should read it and now it's conveniently credible? Can't have it both ways.

The reality is both clubs will use the media to spin the situation in the best light to their members, one would be niave to think everything being said from either end right now is true.

What are you talking about, there are DIRECT quotes from our CEO. I'm not stupid enough to accuse the Advertiser of misrepresenting DIRECT quotes.

You're right. I don't believe anything anymore, even sources.

What i do believe is anything being said about the situation is merely spectual.

The only person i'll believe herein, is the man himself, when he announces a decision.

Anything else can and will make you look stupid at times.

They can though bend the truth to make the story look factual.

Unless you've heard Rhode himself say what he's assumed to have said, then take it with a grain of salt.

In other words you're asking me to accuse our CEO of lying:

"As if we are going to allow a delegation to come to town to meet with Travis,'' said Power chief executive Keith Thomas.
"Balme telling Rohde of the meeting ... it did not happen,'' said Thomas.

Do you think Port would agree to a group of Geelong officials coming over to hit up one of its players ? Do you think any club would ?

(Its worth noting that Blame and Thomas are friends, Balme coached Thomas to a premiership for Norwood - against Port in 84 ... they have been known to catch up for coffee)

In other words you're asking me to accuse our CEO of lying:

No what i'm saying is unless you've heard those words being said directly from Rhodes mouth, don't believe everything that has been written.

I couldn't tell you what Rhode or anybody within the Geelong hierarchy have said because i havn't heard words directly.

Now there's 2 conflicting stories apparently, so who's lying? The media?Rhode?Balme?

I'll leave your thread now, expect it to be closed in a week when he's signed, but i'll leave you with these thoughts:

Was it in Ports interest to give Geelong permission to go hell for leather trying to hit up one of their players (their highest paid player that they are desperate to keep) ?
[especially given you all seem to believe Ports been putting plenty of pressure on him to stay]

Do you really believe the possie on Sunday was not thrown together quickly, and that Geelong hadn't pushed their case for Boak over the time he spent back home ?

Talking about a beat up. Port's coach reportedly puts pressure on Boak to announce his intentions mid way through the season. What's meant to happen next? Are Boak and potential suitors expected to adopt the attitude, "Oh well, we can't possibly speak to the player while he is contracted as it would be disrespectful to Port Power."

One more post (sorry), but Rhodes is quoted with comments supporting Thomas's statement:

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/6038/newsid/141765/default.aspx
Port Adelaide general manager football Peter Rohde said that it wasn’t until he asked Geelong officials last month that they confirmed they had already met with Boak in Geelong.

“While we became aware of Geelong’s interest in Travis and assumed that their discussions would continue, we certainly had no prior knowledge that they were coming to Adelaide on Sunday,” Rohde said.

“The first we knew of it was when the media called us for a response.”

Meeting has finished at the Club and hearing that he has signed.

Will chat to my peep's when I finish up at work and confirm.

Should be announced tomorrow or Thursday.

Good for you guys !
Gee that guy has been under some serious pressure.
