So silly to bump this thread when Geelong have just won the flag with no real stars commanding big salaries in that 24-28 age bracket.

Would any of:
Kolo
Narkle
Bews
Atkins (Rookie btw)
O’Connor

Be getting more than $300k a season?

Conversely, would their aging stars be on much, outside of Jezza (who is only 29 btw) ? I can’t imagine that despite their clear value to the club, that Touhy, Danger, Hawk, Selwood, Blicavs, Stanley, Duncan or C Guthrie are getting paid a whole lot.

Finally, their young stars are still very young. I doubt many of them are getting paid much either.

Most clubs have a few players that they are paying overs for, us with Williams/McGov, Saints with Hill/Hanners etc. seems like Geelong are paying slight overs for Jezza with the rest being distributed across the remainder of the playing list in a pretty flat structure.

Precisely. Geelong are in the weird situation where they have a lot of older players and really young players. There’s not a huge amount of stars in that 26 to 30 range who typically get the big money. And by the time the younger/newer players are needing to be paid more (De Koning, Stengle, Close) there will be a bunch who have retired. One if their best midfielders this year for instance was Atkins who barely anyone gave a crap about before 2022, he would be on nothing.

Interesting read this year's top 100 rich list.

Only 3 players make the list for Geelong. Cameron, Dangerfield & Stewart.

Be interesting to see how Carlton manage to squeeze in Dan Houston if that trade does eventuate.
Quite surprising to see Essendon feature highly as well.

It's all guess work no one knows because it's kept secret and not public. it's estimates.

You only have 3 on the list because discount surf coast farm properties don’t count under the cap.

To be fair....

The Salary cap next season is $17,700,000.

I guess Geelong have a fair amount of players on $400,000 a year or $500-$600,000 a year

YES!!

Geelong's cap needs questioning!

Every single year, just like every other club.

And, of course, Geelong's cap IS questioned every, single, year.

And guess what?

Its fine. :)

well said.

scrutinize us if need be; if we're cheating I'd be very disappointed.

we've had some luck; no doubt.

Tom Hawkins takes unders.

Mark Bicavs, Tom Stewart, Jack Henry even Patty Dangerfield take unders.

Jeremy Cameron could no doubt have got more had money been his absolute priority.

In my estimations Cameron, Max Holmes and Tyson Stengle are probably sitting up there in terms of our salary cap percentages. In Holmes' case, rightly so.

pretty much on the head. no third party deals, no cola, no ambassador, straight up hard salary cap.

And players must show tax returns.

Ideally immediate family too, given how many dodgy deals happen there too, but that would be tough.

Also make the penalties insanely tough and follow through. Clubs are always going to cheat if they think they can get away with it. Because the AFL have a proven history of wanting to cover it all up..

tax returns bit far, publish the entire salary cap with what every player gets like in america.
