Don't leave us hanging..
What's he gibbering??
He stated that when he signed his last contract, he has made a commitment not only to the club, but to the players, assistant coaches blah blah blah....said definitively that he won't be going anywhere.
Which actually reads as meaning, he'll be with the Blues next year with the right offer :grinning:

Plenty of room on the Cripps express
Cripps was just demonstrating to Papley that if he joins our club he will be happy to carry him along with the rest of his Carlton teammates.

Not a good week for Hawthorn.

1. A poor loss to Essendon
2. The captain caught out employing 'unusual' tactics against an opponent and stomping on feet.
3. The club a little out of sync with their thoughts around Strattons' ways.
4. The President making poor remarks and then sticking to them steadfastly.

Maybe just a few little things, but the sum of the parts doesn't look great.
Could it be the start of the family-club coming apart?

Recently success on the field was papering over some serious cracks. Expect the wheels to fall off completely as they continue to struggle in games.

Will probably shake Clarkson free if someone has a good enough list and deep enough pockets.

It could. Clarkson supported Stratton, whereas the club........not so much.
They may well be strong enough to patch things up, but right now, the HFC doesn't seem to be in step.
I wonder whether Kennetts views are a representation of the board as a whole? Maybe, but somehow I doubt it.

Right now if you were a player manager, you may be inclined to forgive Hawthorn for this week to date, but you would have your eyes somewhat more opened than may have been the case before this week.

Not a fan of Clarko or the Hawks, but I have to agree with him with regards to the media hysteria beat up of the talk around Stratton and his pinching. Elbows and punches are far more acceptable for the media rather than a nasty pinch.

The root of the problem here is the umpires, penalise him, there are enough of them out there to watch him, if they stop it the first time they are aware of it, it doesn't grow and fester til it pops. No different to the gut punches etc last season which resulted in Brayshaw getting his jaw smashed. Just cut it out of the game and the umpires have the power to do this.

With regards to pinching it is a low act and has no place on a football field.

The Kennett comments really puss me off, what’s worse is the overwhelming support online he seems to be getting.

To double down on your pathetic initial comments with more garbage about security staff, not being able to play sport where they came from.

Of the AFL dipped the ball on the Goodes saga, where are they on this? Stating twice that a large group of people are unable to their job due to their cultural background is low as.

The people supporting and applauding this crap are just as bad.

Gil has a press conference today at 2pm. I'm guessing it will be as pathetic as usual but we'll see.

just as well the umpires have nothing else to do but monitor this underhand, sneaky, disgusting behaviour - anything else we can get them to do? refill the sugar bowls in the corporate rooms?
I've said this before: take the pressure off them.

Put more cameras around the ground, and enforce the rules governing intent via suspension, so that the umpires merely need to pay attention to technical infractions. All umps should be able to communicate with each other remotely, and - in the event of Stratton's pinching - the goal ump can talk to the centre ump and inform them, immediately bringing attention to it.

Is it in breach of the rules? Yes. Pay the downfield free for the first instance, and another for every subsequent incident. Simples.

Watch the narrative change, though, from "OMG, Stratton pinched Fantasia's arm over and over and over! The Horror!" to "Is this a free kick? He's only pinching him, game's being overumpired!"

It's like they've tasted the air and worked out that no-one knew this hasn't been going on for decades, that this is the first time that Stratton has done this.

I agree with Clarkson when he refers to this incident having similarity to sandpapergate (which I prefer to call ball-tampering, because that's what it is) in that it's a) something that has been done on a footy field since day dot, b) that is underhanded in such a way as to be considered unaustralian, and c) that he clearly thinks is no big deal, despite the fact that the majority of those who follow AFL - maybe not the people who've played at the top level - are not okay with it. Unfortunately for him, the similarities do not exonerate Stratton from his behaviour, in fact the comparison is rather apt, IMO. He deserves to wear his suspension; I only wish it'd been caught onto sooner, as I really do not think this was his first rodeo.

That said, it's like the media have never heard of such a thing before. Libertore Snr's still around, isn't he?

Hang on, the umpire was notified of this with Charlie Cameron, if at the time he had taken action and penalised the act which is against the rules, Stratton would hopefully think twice the next time, if penalised again and again, do you think Clarkson wouldn't have a word with him.

Both Cameron and Fantasia notified the umpire of the act, which is against the law of the game, get it out of the game before it grows. The umpires have the power to get rid of a lot of these stupid acts but due to media scrutiny they ignore it because they don't want to impose themselves on the game. The AFL are their own worse enemy with what they are doing to the umpires with their constant tinkering of the rules.

The umpire can notify the 4th umpire who can watch Stratton and can award a free kick, why have 4 x field umpires, 4 x boundary umpires, 2 x goal umpires if one of them can't fill the sugar bowls for you if that is what you want.

I can see his train of thought. It's only just cleared the station before he's opened the doors, though.

Would a recently arrived migrant be aware of the parochial behaviour in an AFL crowd? Probably not. So yeah, I can see that side of it. But how many of these security staff are recently arrived migrants? How long does one have to have been in the country to qualify as being "Australianised" enough to appreciate the emotion of a dyed-in-the-wool footy supporter? Does it matter which country they come from?

And ultimately - regardless of any of those qualifying considerations - doesn't their employer have a responsibility to provide sufficient training and direction for how they should go about doing their jobs? Does Jeff think there's a Marvel black bag squad grabbing able-bodied men off dinghy's, blindfolding them, driving them to Marvel in a non-descript van, garbing them in ceremonial high-vis and then throwing them into the crowd with a promise of minimum wage in return for keeping the masses from "misbehaving"?

Seriously, Jeff, just 2 minutes thought and you'd come to the same conclusion. Whatever these security staff are looking for, no matter who they are, should be dictated by their employer.

As a senior corporate figure, you'd think that by the time you finished uttering the words "I'm not racist, but..." you'd have the sense to just stop talking.
