Yes but it's a bit unfair to try put so much pressure on SPS.
As been stated other times, the arrival of Saad and Williams will ease the burden on SPS and he hopefully play with a lot more fluidity and confidence to his game.
Across the board we had several other underachieving players last season to who need to lift.
McGovern is another one whom if he improves and gets fitter and more consistency to his game, makes us more dangerous certainly (esp as Charlie will be out for a while)
If Fisher can maintain his form in the last quarter of last season, that is a massive game changer to us.
Try look at negatives as possible if not probable net gains and positives for 2021
Christ knows it's been an ordeal to support this club in the past 20 years (esp since Ratts final year as coach), and this is not directed at you Sir or anyone else on this board, but I have just about had enough of feeling negative and downhearted about our Blue Baggers, especially going into a new season.
The past cannot be re-written (unless you are Sarah Connor) and the future is not set in stone.
Maybe I have gone a bit loco due to the really difficult and crazy year the world has gone through in 2020, but I am going into Round 1 21 thinking and expecting we will beat Richmond.

I only agree from the perspective that it will take players like SPS to become more damaging in order for Carlton to play in the finals. That could be positional change, using speed more effectively and maximising the output per possession. You could run the same microscope over a number of players who need similar improvement for a final’s berth. It’s not on one player to elevate the whole side.

You’d think we would be more in danger of missing the finals if Cripps has another year that resembled his 2020, below his normal standard (yet 3rd in clearances..... just think about it). I hope Carlton have reached a point where we aren’t relying on any one players output to make the finals, no matter who that player is.

We'll make finals, how far we get in finals is a different matter, would assume knocked out first or 2nd one, which is good enough for me, given our current pace.
Only crucial piece would be Harry really, I couldn't see us making finals without him. Levi, Eddie, King, Fish etc can only do so much.

Richmond board nuffies now want Eddie Betts to be a mentor to Sydney Stack.
Yeah, that's really gonna happen.
He is not a troubled teenager any more, he is a grown man who has made some poor life choices and likes to party too hard.
Jesse Hogan has now been shipped off from two clubs because of similar issues to Stack.
We need to stop beinf apologists and enablers for troubled footballers and their outlandish off field crap (we indulged Fevola and turned a blind eye to his alcoholism for far too long)
If Stack wants to salvage his career, he needs to admit he has a problem (with Alcohol) and volunteer to go to a detox/rehab facility for a month/6 weeks (whatever long it takes, a period of day 2 weeks isn't enough imo) after he is released from gaol.
It has to be up to Stack, and Stack alone/himself if he wants to .
Eddie has his own family to take care of anyway (including a newly born Son)
Mollycoddling Stack is not the answer.

I agree ostensibly that we allow afl players and kind of the successful off for rather a lot. But I look at these situations, and I think about what I'd try to do to keep my mates from being a ****wit in public or in private, and I wonder about these situations.
And I wonder how much information we actually possess when it comes to this stuff, and if it's as bad as it seems or if it's worse.
I don't know the answer, I suppose. I don't think there's enough understanding society wide of addiction or generational violence. I don't think what's done to you as a child should excuse future behaviour, but I think there's more than a few of us on here that are lucky their lives turned out one way instead of another.

No. And I am not judging Stack on his racial background either. And yes I am aware he has had a very difficult upbringing.
But it's clear Stack (based on quite reliable sources I have read) that has an problem with discipline and an addiction to alcohol.
I do not see any issue with raising the point of Stack taking some off time from Richmond and the AFL, to work on those issues I have addressed.
I sincerely do not want to see him waste away his talent and career like Bennell and Yarran before him, I hope/wish my post did not come across as judgemental or condemning, just giving my opinions and (perhaps misguided) advice on the matter.

I'm pretty sure that if Stack or somebody close to him reached out to Eddie that he would be the last person to turn his back on him.
By the way if you think that a 20 year old is a 'fully grown man' in any sense then you're just clueless.

Isn't he a member or organiser of the WA Blues group as well?
Our club really needed the likes of him and Dennis Armfield, especially during our lean/spoon years. They were honest foot soldiers (in football terms) who I reckon gave the kids a lot of morale and encouragement, even when we were getting belted.
This is why I get annoyed when people question why the likes of Gibbons and Newnes should be in our best 22.
We need those type of honest goers, who have had to fight tooth and nail to get on an AFL list and or prove their worth at the elite level.

Yep so do I. The reality is that we need SPS and others to make giant leaps this year. If they don't and it falls on Cripps again, then we will miss out again..His body is starting to show signs of wear and tear, and he cannot be expected to keep shouldering the burden.
