How do people expect Geelong to go any farther next year after losing Motlop, Menzel, Lonergan and Mackie and gaining no experience in return? Who's kicking the goals next year?

Window is closed up tight and Scott's downfall is on the horizon. Looking forward to seeing a real rebuild under a quality coach. It's coming soon.
Bring in Ablett and Motlop Compo. Package picks 19 and 21 and shop it around. Otherwise, go to the draft.

And 6 months after a new coach is brought in, are you going to look forward to when they are also sacked? Just admit right now you have a deep seething hatred for the club, or you must just be a miserable person who sees a full cup empty.

I'm happy, buddy. These moves guarantee Geelong falls next year and will precipitate Scott's expulsion from the club.
This is why you’re pathetic. You’re happy as it improves our chance of falling.
That really should be a board ban offence.

Nope, I'd support a real coach who is willing to do what's in the best interests of the club. Scott is not that.

Makes me wonder if these trades in the past we're we have been considered quite generous at the trade table are coming back to bite us. Maybe clubs are seeing us as a push over and demanding we pay overs. Either way I would rather we stand firm and show we won't be forced into a poor deal for out footy club.

Wells should shelve the "deal unlikely to get done" rubbish based on what Clubs are asking for in the first three days, until AFTER the player has nominated you.
Clubs will always say they won't let players go for less than xxx.... Doesn't mean once player has nominated and there's a day to go they won't change their mind.
Geez, Carlton probably would've moved from a first round pick for Henderson (playing in the two's) and Tuohy (insulting offer) late in the period....

It's like Stephen is the kindly naive man.... I hope he's just talking crap to play games.

That'd be really poor management though.

The reason we get players coming to our club is because we get deals done. If a myriad of players nominate and we can't get it done players won't nominate us anymore.

Look at Essendon.

Melbourne clearly wanting way too much at the moment, and we shouldn't explore offering a contract until that changes.

Ok then. Hypothetical, Chris Scott has just been sacked. Who realistically is on the market that would do a better job?

"That's a bit frustrating from our point of view, and I'm experiencing it with another trade, but all of a sudden clubs are publicly wanting to put our players and any player on the market, and then they go 'Oh hang on, we actually want pick 10 for this player or pick 20' but there's a caveat on it," Connors said.
Sounds like Melbourne are pulling a Bulldogs here. Both clubs happy to turf their players out under contract, but at the same time demanding they get compensated heavily for it. For all we know Wells has offered Melbourne our pick 20 but they aren't willing to part with Watts for anything outside the top ten. Trades done fairly, that includes the GAJ trade, or we just take our picks to the draft and get some elite young talent. Very happy with what Wells had to say. :thumbsu:

Question to everyone preferring to go to the draft (with not even great picks) over bringing in players like Stringer , Watts, Ablett etc... why? Our premiership window in now, not in 5 years when those draft picks will be relevant, if they even turn out good at all.

I still think if we don't land anyone during the period we'd keep him.
Stephen Wells on TR today said if Menz & Lang don't find another club they'll be at Geelong next year.

He also implied the Watts thing is done, and Jack won't play at Geelong next year. No deal.

With so many outlets now running 24/7 footy "news", PR is critical to your trade armoury. On this front, Wells is a reliably poor performer IMO.

I'm intrigued about his Watts comments.

When Wells talks about satisfying Melbourne's demands he obviously means at the trade table.

As it stands we hold a much better hand than Port Adelaide in that regard.

Their first pick is #29. None of the players they are trading out (Ah Chee etc) will gain higher picks than that.

Ours is #20 and we are a decent chance to pick up an extra top 20 pick for Motlop.

So do Melbourne want #20 straight up? If that's the case Port certainly can't satisfy them.

Wells mentioned that we are interested in Watts and he is interested in us.

Is is possible he's putting a bit of pressure on Melbourne to lower their demands?

Or is it possible we will be prepared to trade #20 if we get a high compo pick for Motlop?

He didn't say the Watts thing is over. But its clearly a message to Melbourne they want too much.

Either not a Geelong supporter in which case you're here under false pretences or, in the slim alternative reality where you are a Geelong supporter, you are trolling fellow supporters. Begone.
