Preliminary negotiations begin for Cockatoo
By Peter Ryan
Geelong and the Brisbane Lions have begun to negotiate a deal that would see Nakia Cockatoo join the Lions in 2021 after an injury-riddled six seasons at the Cats.
Cockatoo has played just two games in the past three seasons for a total of 34 games with Geelong.

Preliminary discussions: [PLAYERCARD]Nakia Cockatoo[/PLAYERCARD].

Sources close to the preliminary discussions said the Lions, who hold picks 18, 19, 42 and 69 in this year's draft, thought a deal similar to the one struck when Lincoln McCarthy left Geelong for Brisbane at the end of 2018 would suffice.
In that deal, Geelong traded McCarthy and picks 54 and 57 in exchange for pick 42 and 60. But with a changed draft landscape the Cats think the 23-year-old Cockatoo, who was pick 10 in the 2014 national draft, commands a greater return and are prepared to wait to see what unfolds.
The Lions are a chance to gain picks in between their first two picks 18 and 19, and 42, during the trade period.

IF WE LET COCKY GO FOR A PICK OVER 50 WE ARE ******* NUTS REGARDLESS OF HIS HISTORY!!!!

Lions must think Cats are tasty or something ..easy meat. Not interested in any of those picks come back with something from next year...

With all due respect, that's BS.

Nobody's got a crystal ball and both of those guys are/were worth the risk. Steven because his best is excellent and Jenkins because he's very, very good back up in a forward line.

What happens if Hawkins goes down injured? Gets rubbed out etc.

Jenkins will continue being valuable even if it's only in the VFL.
Steven was always 50/50 and it looks like we ended up on the wrong end. Still, a pick in the 50s and a few games that weren't given to others. Not a huge loss.
fu** me that's ridiculous getting Hogan for Pick 54. How can the Giants not see the hypocrisy in getting a star forward who was a former Pick 1 and traded for Pick 6 not two years ago, for Pick 54, but then wanting more than Pick 10 in compo for Cameron?

Crazy how little the Dockers have accepted
GWS smart maybe. Getting it done!

It doesn't really matter how big the risk is. His value hasn't fallen that much. Look at Daniher. 1 year older, played about the same amount of games and went for Pick 7. Cameron did nothing this year and 2 years older than Hogan - 2-3 first rounders.

fu** me, am I living in a backwards dimension? This makes no sense whatsoever. Apparently we get told 'you get nothing for free', unless you're GWS, Richmond, Hawthorn, Port, Sydney, GC etc. etc.

It obviously has fallen that much.

Daniher didn't go for pick 7, they gave him a contract good enough for band 1, thus Essendon got pick 7 compo.

Cameron kicked 24 goals in 17 games this year, Hogan has 18 in the last 2 years and played 19 games in that time. Cameron has kicked 45+ in 6 of his 9 seasons, Hogan once. I could keep going on about Cameron is miles better than Hogan too.

Hogan is probably worth more than 54, but his stock has fallen greatly and is a risk.

Cats are being bullied by GWS.

Mystery Mid is being worked on
the butter chicken meeting has concluded
marty36 keep away, as crouch is worth pick 2
Yup.. its trade time and he's back LOL

Go Catters

I think a lot of steven is list sizes...hes a good backup and id like to keep him but if list spots are tight and he wants to retire id see the merit in it.

Id take 42 or a future 3rd for cocky we arent realistically getting better than that.

I'm at the point where I'm not even involved and I'm seriously feeling like we should walk away.

I've had a gutful of GWS and their behaviour since the start of Grand Final week. Really has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Getting Hogan for virtually nothing while demanding the world of us and refusing the compo pick, is really pushing me to the limit.

How?

We haven't rolled over, given them our 3 first round picks plus Parfitt & Ratugolea

There's actually been a lot of noise around the suggestion that GWS & Geelong are actually yet to discuss anything, that GWS didn't contact Geelong prior to lodging their paperwork to match the offer & that there hasn't been primary talks at this stage

GWS has been doing a lot of talking through the media, but they most definitely aren't bullying Geelong

I don't think any pick we have replaces a parfitt in this draft. Strong no to trading him. Not sure Menegola is what gws need either.

It'll be picks not players. We have more than enough draft capital

Agreed..they either take reasonable picks or we try and get him in the draft for mine.

Agree..we dont even know if we are willing to trade yet.

More their conduct and their bravado, whilst not even bothering to contact us or work through alternatives in the process.

It's not bullying, but it's certainly not pleasant

It's more arrogance than bullying

And looking at how Wells has generally worked in the past, their behaviour if anything is more likely going to see Wells not be rushed to deal with them. Wouldn't be surprised to see Geelong focus on other trades and then sometime next week turn their attention to Cameron

With treloar id worry how he would cope away from his family but if hes cheap enough in draft pick terms id consider it.

Not sure ..seems a younger version of Jack Steven
