He is better than most of our similar smalls but I'd rather spend trade capital strengthening areas we are weak in (ruck, key forward etc) than an areas of the list we are already strong in.We have a heap of his type but he fits the middle group of 25-30 ... a variation on Steven ?

Totally agree with that assessment same but better ...and agree on ruck etc too.... but as you have pointed out about the middle age group ... if they MC had a choice they would add and play him rather than a Simpson tomorrow. He is better than most of our similar smalls but I'd rather spend trade capital strengthening areas we are weak in (ruck, key forward etc) than an areas of the list we are already strong in.
Pick involved I thinkTyson for Preuss (both failed).
So ... lets try to sew a few threads.. all speculative atm
Narkle out for Brander
Cameron as a FA
Crouch as a FA
Higgins for an R2 pick or a player like Constable
Cockatoo for sfa ... personally id enquire about Brock Smith ... but contracted so probably no.
Delist a truck load of kids
It all seems clever stuff but we walk away and still have no future ruck. If Daniher wante dto play ruck he may have been a better fit ..but beyond our control
Barnes for Denham ?
I don't think west coast would do a straight swap as he is contracted. They would want an upgrade so long as it doesn't involve a R1 I would do it.
Realistically I could live with Narkle and our 2nd for brander and their 3rd.
Flip that 3rd or whatever we get for CC for Higgins.
Crouch and Cameron FA.
Cocky will be a throwaway pick (sadly that's his value) like a R3/4 We might get a fringe player like a wooler/Cox type if we want them (Smith is a decent idea) but that's about it. I'd like witherden but we won't get him.
Trade a later pick (say current or future R3) for a depth ruck to challenge Stanley.
For me list wise that fills needed holes-elite key forward for our flag window now..better ruck depth (Cameron in allows us to push sav into the ruck) bolstered midfield so danger can go forward when needed..brander CHB to replace Taylor...Higgins for outside ball use..and 3R1 draft picks.
Yes I'd like to keep CC Narkle and cocky but if we bring in those players our depth outside the best 22 becomes guys like Clark Steven fogarty Atkins Close Stephens it's still enough midfield and forward depth when your starting mids are danger Selwood Crouch Guthrie Duncan Menegola and your starting (non tall) forwards are Parfitt Higgins Dahl miers Simpson Rohan etc.
I'm willing to sacrifice depth midfielders to improve our tall stocks as our list balance needs it imo.
Fail. Do better next time.So ... lets try to sew a few threads.. all speculative atm

Yeah the only way I could see it is if they just straight up didn't have the space. Kelly, cogs, hopper, taranto. You can't back end all of them.
Surely the "modest deal" indicates we're not really keen. How much in trade do you give up for someone you don't really want that badly.Dont do it ..... he either want to come for what we offer of he doesn't. Crows take comp or sign him...
CATS OPEN TO CONSTABLE TRADE
Geelong will release inside midfielder Charlie Constable if the club can work out a commensurate trade deal.
But Brandan Parfitt will sign a new deal and ward off Adelaide’s interest which would have only intensified if the Crows matched a potential Geelong contract for Brad Crouch.
Ballwinner Constable has played only nine senior games in the past two years including two this season and has been frustrated by his lack of opportunities.
The reality is there are other senior ball-winners ahead of him in the queue at Geelong and Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood aren’t going anywhere for next season.
It means Constable, who remains contracted to Geelong, will likely swap teams in the November exchange period in a bid to establish himself at AFL level next season.
But the club has no plans to release small forward midfielder Lachie Fogarty at this stage, even though he too has taken time to break into the senior side.
Parfitt is one of Geelong’s most exciting young midfielders in a team that is ageing and might bring in more mature-agers like Crouch to add to Shaun Higgins’ acquisition.
As a South Australian-raised player he would fit perfectly into the club’s determination to bring in local players, which has already started with Jackson Hately’s recruitment.
But he loves Geelong and a deal isn’t far off with both parties happy with the progress.
If Geelong does only offer a modest deal for Crouch that didn’t trigger first-round compensation for Adelaide they would certainly match a deal.
It would mean Geelong, which has three first-round picks, would be in the tough spot of having to trade for a free agent after already handing over picks 9, 28 and Dean Gore for free agent Patrick Dangerfield.
The number of times journalists out there are saying 700k would be "just around band 1" despite the only contract in that range that came close (and didn't get it) being calculated against a distribution of contracts from a salary cap millions of dollars lower than the current cap tells you all you need to know.I just don’t see the Crouch compo falling to band 4. Band 2 or 3 net the same result for Adelaide.
I don’t think Jurnos understand the system.
Just trying to whip up hysteria.
It’s going to be quite glorious watching this unfold.I think there is a lesson here... as Sydney could use a Crouch as well ... considering he is interested in playing more ruck ... it would been a convenient fit for us imo ....
Essendon unlikely to receive first-round compensation pick for free agent Joe Daniher
Essendon faces the possibility of missing out on pick 7 in free agency compensation for Joe Daniher, or losing him for nothing if the Lions walk away from the deal — and another club is ready to pounce.
Brisbane has made clear it is not prepared to trade for free agent Joe Daniher, adamant it will walk away and retain its two first-round picks if Essendon threatens to match its offer.
Essendon would ideally secure pick 7 as free agency compensation to smooth Daniher’s path north, but the Lions’ offer is likely to fall short of that first-round return.
It could mean Essendon would receive only an end-of-first-round compensation pick, and would consider matching the bid, trying to retain Daniher for the second straight season.
But Essendon would then potentially lose Daniher for nothing if it matched a free agency bid because he could then walk into the pre-season draft, where Sydney has the third overall pick.
Sydney remains interested in Daniher despite losing out to the Lions and would snap him up in a heartbeat......
He requested a trade to Sydney last year and despite their low-profile approach this year, the Swans continued to pitch to Daniher for his services.
It means the Dons will have to consider whether an end-of-first-round selection for Daniher is better than nothing.
Yet the Lions will have to play a delicate game of brinkmanship to secure Daniher as a free agent given Essendon’s determination to get maximum value from his loss.
The Herald Sun reported this week only guaranteed money in a contract is used to assess the free agency compensation for a departing player.
In an ideal world the Dons would secure pick 7 for Daniher and move on.
But the closest parallel is the end-of-first-round compensation handed to Brisbane when Tom Rockliff signed a four-year deal with Port Adelaide on around $650,000-$700,000 a season.
Joe Daniher faces a complicated path to get to Brisbane.
Daniher’s deal will not be dissimilar in guaranteed money — with more based on incentives — meaning it is hard to see how it would be worthy of first-round compensation immediately after Essendon’s No.6 selection.
Daniher has told some friends he would like to play more ruck at Brisbane because it frees him up to get up the ground.
But Brisbane is planning to recruit him as a key forward who they believe can play alongside Eric Hipwood and Dan McStay.
The Herald Sun understands Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has spoken to his key forwards to assure them he wants Daniher to play alongside them.
Brisbane customarily plays two rucks in Stef Martin and Oscar McInerney, so something may have to give instead of playing five key talls in the ruck and attack.
But Fagan continues to reassure his forwards they are all required in his system in 2021.
For me it’s only 2 things with Cameron
He’s using us to get more cash with GWS
Or he made up his mind a while ago and waiting for finals to come out and nominate us
Band 3 would still Net the Crows pick 21. Leaving them with 20 & 21. Band 2 leaves them with you guessed it 20 & 21.The number of times journalists out there are saying 700k would be "just around band 1" despite the only contract in that range that came close (and didn't get it) being calculated against a distribution of contracts from a salary cap millions of dollars lower than the current cap tells you all you need to know.
This is why the footy world keeps accusing the afl of rigging the system. Footy Journalists just don't know how to do basic maths
It’s not clear what relevance the Dangerfield scenario has here. Dangerfield was, and has proven to be, an absolute elite commodity of the game. Crouch is a good player, but not even AA quality. You can’t be even discussing first round picks in the same breath as him.Dont do it ..... he either want to come for what we offer of he doesn't. Crows take comp or sign him...

we have to because we are out of balance... we have multiple players missing out. ..meanwhile we are thin in other areas.
If Brisbane bring in Daniher then the fringe talls must being looking at the clock... maybe someone like Bellenden if we don't find anyone else. Fringe but can kick it and is 200cm. I like BSmith and would try hard on that , he has attitude ..is 188 ish ..and would be good for our backline group.
My bet is they would like a pick back with Narkle , a bit like Draft Day .,.. they want all their picks back etc... well a R2 at least. It depend on what we have planed and who we go after but Narkle and our R2 for Brander and a future R3 ..maybe.
Band 3 would still Net the Crows pick 21. Leaving them with 20 & 21. Band 2 leaves them with you guessed it 20 & 21.
Band 3 free agents have been Chris Mayne, Vickery, Wells, Scott Selwood, Dahlhaus, Sylvia, Brandon Ellis, Malceski
Band 2 Motlop, Rockcliff, Lycett.
Does anybody think there is any chance in hell a bloke like Crouch getting a 4-5 year deal won’t get Band 3 at the very worst.
Would love to see him walk to the draft and Sydney grab him for nothing. It’s going to be quite glorious watching this unfold.
