I just dont agree that Higgins clogs the list tbh, this is a guy who ranks elite by foot and just averaged 21 touches with a midfield of kids, makes us a better side.

This is a one dimensional way of looking at it. When your stated objective is to compete for a flag every year while simultaneously refreshing the list, you have to replace the top end as they depart. Yes you will burn through young players who miss opportunities or seek better ones elsewhere but that’s part of the cost of that strategy.

Not pursuing Higgins is akin to saying we accept not having as good a chance at the 2021-22 flags as we would if we have him. I can’t see the club accepting that.

I agree and the number of times we have made finals in the last 15 years which basically no other club has done shows the strategy is working. You can argue which specific fringe guys should we keep over which other fringe guys (which will be interesting this year) but the overall strategy is the right one imo.

I reckon savs best spot long term is in the ruck anyway and you dont say no to cameron because of sav.

Best case scenario for us is keeping our 3 picks, signing Cameron, Crouch (no trade) and gaining Higgins for Constable. I personally don’t think we need Higgins and would prefer to play a young player but it looks like it’s happening.

Higgins coming in stifles Simpson, fog, and other young players. Which I’m against. Clark is a lock. Esava may need to wait until a key forward or Stanley goes down.

Honestly even if narkle and cocky go that still gives us a genuinely good top 22 with guys like steven jenkins atkins close simpson fog zuthrie and stephens and dek in reserve..plus our 3 R1 picks..arguably we are well covered for depth anywhere except ruck. Maybe build esavas endurance and train him as a backup ruck in case stanley goes down (id still like to bring in another ruck though) and we would be well set for 2021.

And in shorter games too. Im not paying a R1 purely due to his age but if its a pick or player later than 25 in worth i dont get why people are against it.

Blitz can ruck but i think he is too valuable to us in other roles...ideally we turn sav into a ruck or bring someone in for that role in case stanley is injured.

Id do that deal for tilthorpe but i worry essendon take him at 6..cant see him getting past 8/9. Better to do the deal live on the night.

You'd have to do it ahead of time if Blues want to use it in trade.

Look he can ruck 5 minutes here and there to chop out stanley if guys like hendo and kolo can hold up on the talls as we rarely play 2 rucks anyway. But if stanley is injured and he has to ruck there for weeks it kills our structure. Its the only weak area of the list as jenkins is a better forward than a ruck. Its why if Cameron comes i think we need to train esava as a ruck in case stanley is injured and we need to go that way. Id still look to trade a backup ruck in personally (depends who we can get and what our cap can afford).

He's an incredible contested mark, and has the speed and strength to be great in contested situations. I really like him and hope we put a lot of time into him

We should only put our eggs in the Carlton basket if they are offering overs.

So something like 13 and 16/19 for 7, 27 and future second otherwise it is best to keep options open.
