Was not just our pics they said last night a lot of these kids have been injured
I wonder if it's part of a collective bias thing.

Kid knows there's limited games available to make their case to get drafted. Kid has limited coaching and training sessions to prepare for games properly. Kid then throws absolutely everything he has into every minute of every game and cops an injury. Might apply across the board

You can understand the strategy but it’s fraught if the player is spending more time with the dr’s and physio’s than on the park.

I like the style of player we’ve gone for albeit I reckon we could have mixed it up with a couple with more damaging foot skills. We’ve effectively gone for 3 hard nuts.

I mean in 3-4 years our midfield would be pretty much parfitt holmes stephen and simpson and while i rate those guys they arent big mids or beasts so i can understand why we have picked contested beasts with legspeed to complement them. I think its a decent strategy.

Stephens (188cm) and Holmes (189cm) both quite big and fast.

So much hanging on these 4 mids we’ve just taken. If they end up being duds we are stuffed for a while. If Wells has uncovered in particularly Willis, Kroeger and Whyte 3 guys that are in for the long haul then all kudos to him.

Would be interesting to know whether any of these guys would have been available either with our next pick or even with our rookie pick/s. That we will never know.

I meant in terms of playing style they are quick and big but they dont necessarily play a beast style or use burst speed though they have it..they are more endurancd runners and smart players whereas the guys we drafted to complement them are bulls that use speed to get through the contest.

My theory with why we drafted this lot of mids is we need them sooner rather than later.
Already bigger boys who can make an impact in 0-2 years time instead of 2-4 years

They look physically ready to go don't they? I just hope that we haven't compromised on actual talent for players that are more physically advanced.

For sure... and it easy in the cheap seats but what you have said is true.

My approach this year was they can draft who ever they want to but on their heads be it...they must get two players from it. Now that we have drafted Conway , that probably is three..as I think we will be a player , the timing of his drafting seems to line up with when our senior rucks are done.

The question is can we get two mids from who we have drafted..and I don't know. Knevit has the athletic instruments to play, after that we have taken guys who fall into may latish picks we have taken ...sometimes they become players and sometimes they pancake.... and if they pancake this year it will hurt us.

We seem to have gone for a specific type.. but Im sure we will be watching Taylor and Draper and even Long etc. but that they slipped and past over by all the clubs means it was a wide ranging assessment of them. The Draper one especially as we traded out to let Collingwood have him.

We have a solid group of bodies and shapes... I guess we have to see now how they play together and if they can become names.

How many picks do we have this afternoon. 2 Rookies?

Absolutely. I appreciate that talent ID the last two years would be very difficult with the lack of footy being played. But even so there is a consensus that is roughly around where most guys fit in an order of sorts. Clearly with some massive differences in opinions from some clubs! I wonder whether if we had received pick 19 for Clark whether our draft would look a little different? Would we have taken Johnson or Goater?

Personally I'll be following the relative careers of Knevitt and Willis against MacDonald/Sonsie and Taylor. If the latter end up forging better careers then really it's on Wells. These guys were recognised as talents. And as effective balls users which we've been deficient in. I hope we got our mix right.

Hope we look at Long with a rookie selection btw.

Who is the best kick of the lot? Certainly following the Melb model of contested beasts only (Oliver, Viney, Swallow, Petracca, Harmes etc) . Trick is they have a unicorn in Petracca who is such a beautiful kick.

Melb till they brought in Mark Williams were ordinary kicks, they all butchered the ball going inside 50. I feel we have often see good kicks go a bit backwards at geelong, and only the one s who are naturally good be consistently good. There has been no real pressure put on Danger to get better, he relied on his talent, rather than developing his skill.

What have we got with this group? Not sure.. but unless we put a high focus on it, I suspect they will just be adequate at best.

Man I look forward to the circular discussions of Knevitt versus Sonsie to fill the void left by Chook versus Worpel. Although there's definitely a bit in the tank for Stephens versus Robertson left to go

Slidding doors of the draft..as I posted earlier... if we could have father son Brown then Im sure our names would be different. Use 22 to match the 15 bid and then what happens MacDonald and Sonie for enough... I think when Taylor slide as he did, there must be a reason..its not just Wells.

I like MacDonald, and Sonsie was one I would have picked but so be it. ... Long and a few others probably stiff. Do we go for another mid or KPP. I suspect its the area we have not filled.

Id say they were the next available on Wells' list when our picks came up given his comments on the rookie draft.

How many spots do we have on the rookie list
2.

We may keep a list spot open dependent on whose still available from our list of names.
