Pick 18 being used on Bruhn. Interesting, but it might also point to where Geelong's priorities are / were. Clearly Bruhn and Bowes were the priority ...... and then worry about what scraps are left with picks / players / or both to appease Collingwood on a deal for Henry.

I dont think its about henry not being a priority its more that we are further down the road with gws in negotiations (mackie said as much on monday) so that deal is getting done first.
Then bowes we do then henry.

Im surprised gws agreed to 18 as they have so many r1s they must have a plan to on trade it somewhere..i thought theyd want out fr1 for sure.

If the pies want fr1 for henry they better be sending something back with him-they cant as they already traded their future 2nd and we dont need later picks this year. This one could get interesting-it might be we only offer future 1st if 27 or whatever else they get for grundy is part of coming back our way.
Interesting.

Don't get upset by anything said in trade radio Ffs... It is purely a vessel to get clicks and create headlines and traffic, accuracy isn't at all important and even when something accurate is said the tweets and reporting focus on something else.

The sooner people see it for what it is and stop losing their s**t over it the better for all involved
We should absolutely use trade radio to erode oppo fans sanity though

Prefer #18 for Bruhn over F1st…. Nice work.

Happy to trade F1 for Henry and assume Pies would prefer it too. Stronger draft next season and every chance our pick is lower than #18.

Hopefully we trade Sav to port for 33.
Then bundle 33 + 38 for a pick in the 20s.
And the pies take the pick in the 20's for Henry.

Means we keep our F1 + #7 this year.

Certainly didn't love Bruhn for our F1... but this pick 18 will push out to at least 19 or even 20/21 depending on Davey/Fletcher bids + this draft isn't rated very deep.

Anyway the aim for me is to get Bruhn + Henry in as a combo without losing our F1 and also holding #7

It's certainly a chance but will all depend on the Henry deal.

I have to ask whats the standard of education these days when the host had not heard of the word postulate ...

I think you sucker punched him... You started with defending Mackie almost from an emotional POV ..

but then came with the Clark trade .(facts).. and hit him so hard ...the host felt the need to defend Rendell.

For mine id be happy if had not added sauce to it.. and approached it the same as you did. Use his experience to cast an observation..instead odding the hyperbole about the negotiations. In his position , id just have said the trade will be a test of Mack or what ever ...but he climbed on for a preemptive judgement..just for the sake of juicing the goose.... and you nailed him with the type of common sence that someone with history should has shown. ... First move.. ambit claim etc... but instead came across like he was a Collingwood frontman

Well done. s89

Cheers mate, means a lot coming from an esteemed poster such as yaself :)

Re: the whole 'postulate' nonsense - right? Like how nuts was it that the host had to look up the word and was all like 'you're too smart for us Nick.' I loved that he read out the dictionary meaning too, like he was so surprised I'd used it correctly, lmao

Re: Rendell, he crumbled like a house of cards and couldn't disagree with what I was saying, because it was coming from a factual objective standpoint, rather than an emotional one like his was.

The whole reason I called, was to see if there was any basis for his whole 'clubs are disgruntled by Geelong and their lowballing' shtick. As it turned out, he played it all off as some facetious joke...and now this morning has massive egg on his face as we've done the first deal of the day, with a club who is apparently soon disgruntled, haha.

What an idiot :tearsofjoy:

Giving up 18 now takes away our ability to take Henry in the ND if Collingwood stand their ground. Guess that was never on the table then.

It doesnt really because we can always split 7 for 2 teens picks or on the night we trade our futures to get back in the teens and take henry there.

The play now (as discussed last night) might be to try and trade all our picks 38 and later and sav for a pick in the 20s this year offer that to coll as a take it or leave it thing. I reckon we try and get 25 off brisbane and offer that. 38 wont get it done so if we are not offering a future 1st and theres no player involved thats what it will be.

Interesting.
Talk of GWS wanting North's Pick 1 for Cadman - perhaps this is a war chest for a play at that.

I liked when the host said "Matt has been through a few trade weeks before pal"... like yeah no shit, he is now taking calls from punters on the radio ie. no longer involved in trade week for a reason!

Nakia Cockatoo. A bloke I went to school with although didn’t actually know.

I only knew Parfitt personally

I think the confusion from your post is that it reads like we've previously received a top 10 pick from GC which isn't the case, "Hopefully this top ten pick we’ll receive from Gold Coast shows a bit more loyalty than the previous one we had."

It's a slightly confusing post when trying to work out who you're talking about

Bruhn - Pick 12 in 2020 draft. Going at pick 18 in 2023 draft.
Played 30 games in two years so that's not bad.

Geelong chose to take someone who had demonstrated they could play rather than risk it on a rookie. They potentially lose two years of that player's overall career. That's the choice they make. Unless they fall down the ladder, Geelong is never going to get high first round picks so they have to play smart.

Yes I think that's exactly what Mackie will do.

What's concerning is someone like Rendell even being employed in these roles to begin with given his history.

IIRC he even called Ollie Dempsey a key position player. Poor researching and attention to detail too.

But as we know, the standards and expectations of those working in various footy media roles are very low.

One has to remember ...its very much like trying to interpret the artistic merrits of a Tom Cruise movie. Its entertainment not so much the dry facts

The host is lucky he didn't keep going, as I had in my arsenal 'there's a reason he's no longer at the Collingwood Footy Club and is only heard of for 10 days a year during trade season'...but surprisingly, Rendell backed down and showed that he really wasn't invested in his arguments at all - given as he'd said earlier 'you're taking me too seriously...I was just being facetious'

Is Bruhn a better prospect than Henry?
Genuine Q, as I'm not a watch every game kind of guy like a lot here and I rate Henry.

Bruhn has a much lower likelihood of busting bit henry has the higher ceiling.
They are both good prospects though.
