Yes I think that's exactly what Mackie will do.

What's concerning is someone like Rendell even being employed in these roles to begin with given his history.

IIRC he even called Ollie Dempsey a key position player. Poor researching and attention to detail too.

But as we know, the standards and expectations of those working in various footy media roles are very low.

Let's just say he is given short thrift in the recruiting circles.

No it doesn't. Luke Ball lasted till pick 30 in 2009 for Collingwood to take. There's basically 0 chance of it getting to that but we could work out a way to get a pick in the mid 20s to take him if needed. Could even be done live if necessary. Nobody is touching a guy that walks out on another club after 2 years with a top 30 pick.

Straight swap, IMO. 18 in a weaker draft for a player who went Pick 12 next year...and means we retain our Future 1st and can trade our Future 2nd without any issues for Bowes - it's absolutely brilliant

I am in full agreement of your premise to protect whatever picks we have next year. But a top 7 pick is so valuable to us (comes once every 16 years!!) so I would not like to split it. If you could swap it for a similar pick next year I would. But if we can’t I would take the 7th best this year.

Ollie is a (very) nice to have but I would only take him if it didnt impact any first round picks. Otherwise we get him in 2 years time…
