I mean I could be wrong, but he sort of looks more like a 10-25 type of draft selection, not a top 10 one.
Picks 5 to 15/20 are pretty much the same to me... the drop off after the top 3 of Ash/Sheez/WLaw is daylight then Cadman is a big special forward.
The difference between these mids Clark/Mack/Hewitt/Ginbey/Phil/Hotton/Tsatas/Hollands is pretty much postcodes to be honest.
Not hung up on one being worthy of a pick 12 but not a pick 7.
WellsMack will have them all ranked accordingly and i'm betting my left nut that there isn't much separating their top 10 blokes.

In the weeks and days prior no-one had him going ten

Two Planks had us picking him weeks before. He was not that much of a surprise that he had not been mentioned in the last 200 pages etc. Should we have picked him ... thats another discussion. We were strongly linked to Peter Wright till it was known he would not get to us.

Catriot talked about him in Oct..

I think Tsatas just played to his strengths, when you have the quality inside mids he was playing with he didnt have to crack in and win his own ball constantly, have heard a few people label him as a seagull and I think that's pretty harsh.

A guy I used to work with used to call Bairstow a sheepdog ... I pressume its the same disparagement..

I want Clark. I'd only drop back if he's gone.

He has Jimmy Bartel written all over him..
Two different types of players... Bartel is 187cm and was a great mark overhead for his size, which meant he could pretty much play on the flanks and pockets as well. Think Clark is more like Selwood in playing style, maybe a little bit of of Buddha Hocking too. Primarily a midfielder, and mostly an inside one.

But if you're referring to a local boy that can win a Brownlow, well... have to wait and see :)

Clark reminded me way more of the inside mid version Caddy, using his body as a battering ram to clear the ball through congestion.

I didnt mean clark to guthrie comparison in terms of exact player type (i agree clark is more bullocking) i meant in terms of low bust % and safe pick. Guthrie was a very safe pick all round good player without the absolute elite traits of some others but without the downside risk. Mckenzie reminds me very much of that as a safe pick and so does clark. Humphrey and phillipou for example have more potential to be truly elite rather than solid B+ to A grade but they also have far more bust potential etc.

Agree. His interview with AFL.com.au was impressive, I can see his personality and character appealing to Mackie/Wells.

Mckenzie is the safe pick at 7 thats for sure (if clark is gone).

Would be really disappointed if we dropped back if Clark is before our pick. It’s our best selection in 16 years and there are plenty elite options at 7(8) before it drops away shortly thereafter

Depends on what we get for it.
For example if clark is gone and we rate the next 6 on our board pretty equal in talent and dropping back to say 11 or 13 still gets us one of those guys plus a future 1st then i can see the reason to do it as we are getting 2023 currency (which we need) and still getting the player we want anyway. I wouldnt be dropping back unless its a favourable deal though. If someone like tsatas gets to 7 we might get offered overs for that pick.

After matching etc our picks look like being #8 # 53 & #56

I’d love to get a hold of Mitch Szybkowski watching the VIC Country games. He’s just always in the play and got his hands on the first touch clearance more times than Clark in the two full games I watched. (Yes limited) also had some real AFL traits with speed and is a beautiful short kick. Never tries to do too much.

He was sick at the end of the year but if he slides into the 40s it’s a shame we don’t have much ammo left to jump up and grab him.

We also must grab a tall and probably another with our Rookie pick. Esava is cover back, Fwd and ruck but he could be gone in 12 months. The way we play you can get away with 192ish defenders as long as you SDK healthy. We need to grab one of Lemmey, Keeler, Northam, McMullin, Van Es, Scully, or Foster

Foster, Scully and Lemmey all look like they have AFL qualities. Scully and Lemmey can do anything but are they competitive enough?? You can’t have a soft fwd in todays game. Foster marks absolutely everything and is very hard but a few rough areas like his kicking and maybe pace. Reminds me of Rohan Marshall.

Love to get Van Es as a rookie. He’s athletic. Backs himself. Great kick. Takes kickins. I know he’s already physically developed and ppl hate when he’s mostly playing on sticks in the U/18s but he can seriously play. I just reckon he will play a lot of AFL footy

My concern with Clark is that I just don't think he is a safe pick for us. Between us trading in Bruhn and Bowes and our midfield heavy draft last year, we're overcommitted to the inside midfield area of the ground. With Duncan, Tuohy and Smith all being 32 and older, another Holmes, one of those taller skinny flanker types, who could move to the inside later in their career seems like a more natural area to target.

Does a lot of good things well. Real well. Moves like he has all day. Has talent in spades.
As with all young blokes it's between the ears that makes the real difference.
Eddie Betts is our hidden gem if we go down this track IMO.
I said a while ago he's a better prospect than Ginbey.

I wouldn't. If we get get a teens pick this year and a another first next year I'd take it.

That's if Jhye Is off the board.

And this is not directed at you, but for those saying Stephens is a bust or won't amount to nothing, I'll see you in a couple of years.

They're very similar. Clark is very good above his head.

You gonna make the 150 games Jared Jansen prediction or you not that sure? 😝

Jhye is a safe 200 gamer.
I was talking about Cooper lol. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a decent enough career for himself but I'd be shocked if his loss was to 'hurt'. E. G making it to AA squad or best 22 in every team in the comp. I just haven't seen anything to get super excited about. dempsey and knevitt I'm much more excited about even if 1 or both could well be busts.

Ah ok. There's an article on the AFL site about Cooper. I'm confident we've lost a very good player but I don't blame him for leaving.

I've always said wait until he's played 50+ games.

He wasn't going to get to 20 with us left alone 50 which was why they let him walk, our list management team doesn't suffer the sunk cost.

If he can't break into Hawthorn's 22 next year he has no hope. Their midfield next year is potentially one of the worst ever fielded.

Let’s be honest, we’d all be over the moon with either of:

Phillipou (reminds me of bont)
Clark (reminds me of viney)
Mackenzie (Parker)
Humphrey (caddy)
Tsatas (Guthrie )
Ginbey (crisp)

The above is also my order of preference. I’d also prefer one of the above instead of 2 mid/late teen picks. Take pick 7(8) to the draft.

I think the club is hoping for Clark and Mackenzie is the backup. The more I think about the more Mackenzie feels like a player Geelong would select
