Look I'm not going to criticise too harshly anyone who chases cash moneys. You're only in the AFL for a short while so you're entitled to maximise earnings. But that doesn't jive with Geelong's list strategy so if you want more money that's fine but youre going to have to look elsewhere.

We have 2 primary lists spots and 2 Cat A spots.

CAT A ??
CAT A ??
CAT A Riccardi (99%)
CAT A Dempsey

CAT B Clohsey (hopefully)
CAT B ??

Hopefully we can trade out to next year or bundle up our extra ND pick (#53 & # 56 after bids). Trading back would be ideal as we have nothing next year.

I agree it makes sense to “pass” on the second rookie spot incase we need something during next season.
Riccardi has everything against him to make it, let's hope he is another rookie special

He follows/supports Collingwood. ...and there is a family connection that has been mentioned multiple times... something like a family sponsorship.
You think that is irrelevant in the minds of GFC recruiters?

And if he's gone before our pick, just as certain we get him 2 years later anyway.

I only think that if we miss him in draft and he goes to an out of state club ..there is no certainty that we get him in two years time... that he would be more likely to choose where he really would like to play...ie Collingwood

However , just like a lot of players , id say we have a good chance of keeping him if he has engrained himself into our best 22 by the time his contract is due..

As you have discerned, I had no idea about his background and allegiances, and thought he may have been another Falcon Wannabe Cat.
Not so, but true, if we get him, he may be happy.
Still, I'd prefer Phillipou.

Or the other way around.
Or both, i.e. the 'no' to McKenna and the 'yes' to Simpson both had financial dimensions?

If we frontloaded the Bowes deal, in part to keep faith with him and in part to make sure we didn't compromise the longterm, there might have been a bit less in the kitty for McKenna, or at the least not the negotiating room that his manager had expected?

That a player of that reputation with zero draft cost is being chased by four clubs at this fairly late stage almost suggests that something that was expected in the industry fell through, and the race suddenly opened up.

The other possibility is that we do have our new Irishman, and it's the one who is sitting on the webpage even though he seems not to have been in the country yet (Oisin Mullin). I can't believe we had a friendship delegation of the size we did, and no recruiting aims were involved ...

Oslin Mullin would be a great pick up. Come and enjoy the lifestyle son.

Jordan Murdoch regularly cops it here but what pick was he? - 40 something? He played a 100 games and helped to put us 20 points ahead at 3/4 time in the 2013 PF.

Agreed.

He was pick 48... and mid third-rounder.

He had a lightning fast 20m sprint... 2.8ish I believe and was 190cm.

You don't get to pick #48 with that size and explosive speed if clubs think you can decently play the game.

He did get to #48... So clubs were well onto him being an average footballer.

Therefore we shouldn't be looking back on him as if he was the great white hope that never made it.

Murdoch did ok for himself... was a handy fringe player at best, but most third-rounders hardly lace them up at all.

Will be so pumped if Mullin actually gets to us... The kid looks like he could be a weapon.

It's so hard to find much info on these Irish guys in regard to stats, form or recent clips.

Sounds like he has had a dodgy hammy for a good amount of the year which is a bummer.

Anyway... get his ass over here, get professional, get your hammy right and get to work.

22 years old and hopefully ready to give it a real crack.

Having that kinda talent to work with without having to give up anything could be a big bonus for us.

We certainly haven't built our side around quality draft picks... so I look at these guys as ways to beat the system.

Eagerly awaiting confirmation... but won't get my hopes up until I see him at GMHBA stadium.
