One reads this and it seems likely most clubs will tread carefully about drafting a player who will struggle for early games especially if not a local.

NEW-GEN, NEW RULES?

Another factor emerging in the talent pools of recent years is the simple generational shift.

At the risk of sounding too philosophical, some clubs believe players in their adolescence in 2022 have, on average, less patience than those of those in prior generations.

It would not be a perceived generational shift that exclusively applies to footballers, but it’s one that bears mentioning.

Young players struggling to get a senior game early in their career may already be getting impatient, but that impatience is only amplified when the avenues for fresh starts are, as mentioned, continuously growing.

Another article today linking us to Joe Richards. It seems the demand for him is picking up so he might not be available at our second pick.

If he goes inside 40 that tells you most teams dont rate this draft.

Mitch Clearly would have been itching to break the news when he said the Cats now had other priorities pulling out of the McKenna race.

He’s also a club controlled spokesperson these days 😂
Any time Mitch Cleary says anything about the Cats, please stop everything you do, listen and take note. The amount of stuff this guy gets right about especially about us is incredible.

The announcement of Oisin being a likely pick up 12 months after he was goneski, seems like a nice time to make my first post in a while - as I was really so stoked about this kid last year :)

On analysis as a whole, re-signing Sammy makes our trade period and our haul that much better, as we are literally only using 2 live picks in the ND.

For mine, this is basically an example of how things could turn out once all is said and done:

*********************************************************

OUT: C. Pick 18, 38, Future 2nd (32-36ish) 48 (useless), Pick 55 (useless), Future 3rd (50-54 useless), Future 4th (Pick 68-72 useless) and C. Stephens

So picks 18, 38 and 32-36ish in 2023 draft as picks of worth given up + Cooper Stephens.

IN: Pick 7 (Clark/Buss/McKenzie etc.), Bowes, Bruhn, O. Henry

+

Pick 58 (Lemmey/Van Es/Northam/Richards/Hagan etc.)
Cat A Rook (O. Riccardi)
Cat A Rook (Northam/Hagan maybe even a local like Chalcraft etc.)
Cat B Rook (Clohesy)
Cat B Rook (Mullin)

So we lose 18, 38, 32ish and Coop...for Jhye Clark, Bowes, O. Henry, Bruhn, and then also add Clohesy, Oscar, Mullin and a couple of late smokeys like Northam, Richards or Hagan...it's absolutely incredible how good this trade/draft period could end up! Might even trade 64 for a Future 4th instead of passing, if someone wants a late swing at someone they like.

*******************************************************

This then ends up giving us as an example (drafted players just examples of those in our range that we've been linked to)

RETIRED/DELISTED/TRADED

Joel Selwood
Luke Dahlhaus
Shaun Higgins
Cooper Stephens
Francis Evans
Quinton Narkle
Nick Stevens
Paul Tsapatolis
Zane Williams

TRADED IN/DRAFTED

Tanner Bruhn
Jack Bowes
Ollie Henry
Jhye Clark
Jed Hagan
Olivier Northam
Ted Clohesy
Oscar Riccardi
Oisin Mullin

Incredibly, even while losing Sel and Coop, our squad actually looks like it could be much stronger coming out of this trade/draft period - rather than going backwards. Phenomenal effort from all involved. God I love this club

There's a reason he was our insider for so long before he got the 7AFL gig - guy is one of the best reporters going around and knows close to everything that is happening within our 4 walls at any given time. Conducts himself with integrity and only reports on that which he has actual information for...unlike most of his speculative brethren.

Favourite reporter by a long stretch - AFL or otherwise.

Random question regarding Mullins:
- IF he does sign with us & makes it out to Australia this time, does his potential 3-years as a CatB start from 2023 or would 2022 count as a year 1 as he signed last year even though he didn't make it out here?

Only guessing, but I would suggest it's about how many years you are listed and not how many years you participated
