I'd prefer Mullin over McKenna. The reason being he's 22 and has time on his side to develop. McKenna I can't see fitting into our side in the next year or two.

I'm the same for the fact that I just can't see McKenna walking into this side next year after having a couple of years off.

He'd need to be at his best to crack our 22/23 anyway + I believe his $$$ would be highish and in our cap.

Would love Mullin to come across... Feels like more of a free roll than having to cough up for a guy that is no certainty to be in our team next year anyway in McKenna.

Mullin in a couple of years could be a bit of a Touhy type player.

If it happens... Great, what a bonus.
If not... We had a crack and nothing is lost anyway.

Fingers crossed.

I thought Mullin confirmed with the club a few months ago that he wasn’t coming to Australia for 2023.

He’s crazy not to give it a shot. Even try it as a 1 year working holiday. Life is too short to miss that opportunity.

Another article today linking us to Joe Richards. It seems the demand for him is picking up so he might not be available at our second pick.
Very nice highlights, and lots of them! Kicks on his left like a natural left footer. Hope he gets a go at AFL level with someone, looks a genuine footballer.

Will be so pumped if Mullin actually gets to us... The kid looks like he could be a weapon.

It's so hard to find much info on these Irish guys in regard to stats, form or recent clips.

Sounds like he has had a dodgy hammy for a good amount of the year which is a bummer.

Anyway... get his ass over here, get professional, get your hammy right and get to work.

22 years old and hopefully ready to give it a real crack.

Having that kinda talent to work with without having to give up anything could be a big bonus for us.

We certainly haven't built our side around quality draft picks... so I look at these guys as ways to beat the system.

Eagerly awaiting confirmation... but won't get my hopes up until I see him at GMHBA stadium.
Have some Irish friends, now resident in Australia and followers of AFL, who were adamant he was the rising star of the league two years ago and were rapt he was coming to Australia so they could see him play (although they wanted him for their Crows!). Our improved medical outcomes over the last couple of years might be a big attraction.

The only person to be worried is probably Zach Tuohy ...

Mullin deserves a crack.

The AFL is a great game and I think he can make a contribution that would benefit him and the code.

We have a few Irishman who have been rewarded but more importantly, we have a great club culture.
Watching the Mullin clips, he's much more physically aggressive than the run of Irishmen when they first come over; he seems to relish going the straight way through opponents, rather than round them.

I watched a full game he played in last year before he pulled the pin on us.
Apparently, it was a lower-level match and he was clearly above the guys on the ground.
He deadset looked like Chris Judd a few times in it.
Of course, me saying that is going overboard.
I was very dirty when he said he wasn't coming last year.

He may come, he may not... He may make it, he may not.

All I know is I want him in our system because he has some very good traits about him and getting a free hit at an extremely talented, powerful and fast 22-year-old would absolutely be better than nothing.

Not sure that article is actually from Sept 2022 though - it does say "UPDATED Sep 19, 2022 1:30 AM" and reads like it's actually from last year when he first agreed to come to join the club. I'm not sure which part of the article has been updated, but it's not a new article with any new information compared with when it was first published 12 months ago

Good pickup ... Mullin won the Allstars Young Footballer of the Year in 2020 and 2021, so at least a year old and superseded by the "not coming" of January this year.

There was a couple of other things that stood out:
  • the article says Mullins is 21 but he's 22 (born Feb 2000)
  • Kearns signed with our AFLW team in 2021 & has now played 2 seasons with us, so she's not a recent signing

Plus, if it was confirmed then I would have thought that we'd have heard something from the club at some stage over the past two months

I see a few other articles have been posted but this one is quite categorical:

AFL outfit Geelong Cats are no longer interested in signing Tyrone All-Ireland winner Conor McKenna with the club focused on securing Mayo star Oisín Mullin for the 2023 season.

Mullin first committed to the club in November 2021 before changing his decision and opting to stay in Ireland. The Irish Examinerunderstands the two-time Young Footballer of the Year stayed in contact with the current AFL champions throughout the year and the Cats have re-tabled their offer. The 22-year-old is set to commit as a category B rookie.

Mullin's "profile...or name" is still on our website and has remained since last year.

They never chucked his pic on it.... same with Zane Williams (which really shouldn't have been that hard to do).
