Mackie was pretty clever when asked how long they'd been speaking with Henry about a move back. The response was - it really only landed in the last couple of weeks.

What the lazy journalist should have asked was - how far back were you in discussions with Henry's manager.

They are two entirely different scenarios but I suspect Mackie has just been careful not to put noses out of joint at Collingwood, knowing that goodwill is often the key to getting these deals done.

It seems to me...this whole trade period is like a trade version of the draft. Its not so much about 2023. Its about positioning us to have a side with enough 22 to 26 age players when our old guys go

I would take Cadman. Best Key forward in the draft. With a bit of something about him that indicates he'll do well.

Yeah no doubts in too many peoples minds in that regard. Journalism full stop is a mess in this country.

You do have to wonder whether there's much quality waiting in the wings. Mitch Cleary seems a pretty solid operator, but not sure he's a long term prospect to become the next AFL reporting doyen unless he can start guessing, and making things up That seems to be the clickbait money maker.

Imagine some of the old school types making a comeback. Rex Hunt wouldn't make it through the first week before offending the woke brigade. Letting BT commentate the modern game after a bottle of red might be pretty entertaining though.
