Do you go to the Cats, who, as good as they've been to snag a flag, aren't really tipped to go at it for too long. A lot of pending retirements/drop-offs there. A team that's given away a lot of their draft picks in recent years and have relied on, albeit successfully, luring A grade players that have happened to be from Geelong or thereabouts...

Or,

You can look at Essendon, a team starting anew, high class facilities, retained their players despite low form, rejuvenated the careers of former teammates, a fresh Scott at the helm, having blooded a myriad of first round draft picks into the side and holding pick #4 to boot...

When you read dribble like that you really appreciate what we have as a club. Although we did have it terrible for a long time so things were due to turn for us.
Would have been a tough decision for Bowes
I think it's a society thing, high level athletes are looking at lifestyle and relationships over just $$$. Which psychologists would actually agree is the right approach to a happier life long term.

Welcome Jack Bowes and pick No.7!

Honestly, if I didn't support us I'd hating our stinking guts too.

I personally wouldnt agree about drop off at 7 eg phillipou hollands and busslinger are 3 guys who probably wont go top 7 but who i am very confident in making the grade. Id say theres about 15 or so i think are very good..i do agree it drops off after round 1 though which is why im not bothered that we wont use our later picks.
Also wells tends to not be afraid to reach for who he wants so theres every chance our board is different to other clubs.
For me theres no right or wrong on keeping 7 but it comes down to a few factors.

1. Do we rate this years top 7-10 more than next years top 20?
(As the main reason to trade 7 down would be to keep our future 1st assuming we cant keep both which is likely)
2. How much are we set on trying to get clark and do we think he will get to 7?
3. If we think he wont who are the next 3 or 4 on on our board and would they still be around at 12? (I assume going to 12 with gws would be where we went if we traded down). For eg if the next guy on our board after clark is hollands or busslinger and we think we can get him at 12 then trading down makes sense as it gets you the same player you would have taken anyway plus a future 1st.

The only other factor that might be considered is 7 is our earliest pick in 15 years so we might be reluctant to trade it.
But i trust our list management team who have much more intel on all the draftees than we do to make the best call.

To even have the option of discussing what to do with a top 10 pick (if we do get it in the bowes trade) is good for the club.
I think we need to buy in now. There might be better value later next year, but the lost turnover that's about to come means we should be striking whilst the iron is hot. Getting a core group of younger players together and into the system developing and playing the Geelong way augurs well in 2024 and beyond.

My fave line of thinking from Bomber nuff land was that "The Hanger" was an amazing selling point and would woo Bowes...

Especially since I'm pretty sure our facilities are a massive selling point and regarded as highly as any... Plus that whole pesky playing and training at your own ground thing they all moan about 😂

Essendon supporters may not realise but stable off field leadership is very appealing to players

Last line will be:

Docked 10 games worth of premiership points after being found guilty of racism and inhumane treatment of indigenous players.

I coached my junior soccer team across the road from The Hangar in Tullamarine a few months back, it's an absolute shithole of an area and I don't like poo-pooing other people's suburbs. It was that bad.

But who needs Bells, they have Urbnsurf there too 😂

Leigh Montagna urging club to go after Cooper Stephens who will fall behind Bowes and Bruhn in the queue.
I was coming here to post something about surely with the things we’re getting something has to give.

Not including Sav but my first thought was Stephens and even someone like Menegola, Parfitt or O’Connor

Usually premiership teams lose someone via trade

It sounds like pick two will end up at north via trade involving port and JHF
So you would imagine north will take Cadman with one of the picks
Swap 7 and next years first for 3 and TB

Its always possible if gws dont want to take a vic metro kid at 3 (sheezel or tsatas)but i doubt they want to trade down id still keep 3 if i was them.
Not a bad idea though.

Sav is probably less affected by the ins as none of them are genuine kpp he is still the 1st kpd in the vfl on our depth chart.
I agree stephens will find it harder to get games though.

More Bowes highlights for your viewing pleasure (can also play as a forward which I forgot to mention):

:hearteyes::hearteyes::hearteyes:

Did you see some of the scores in those highlights...and the unbridled joy at winning a game. We forget what its like for some players at some clubs. It would not surprise me at all that success was a key part of why chose geelong. He will get good money where ever he plays but Hawks and the Dons will struggle for a couple of years.

There will be fall out but for a period of time we have a very deep list.

I dont think theyd do that straight up but i wonder if we could talk them into 38 and 28 for sav (and maybe a swap of later picks).
We could then try and flip say 28 and 48 and 55 to brisbane for 21-which can go for henry
(Depends how much we want to keep 18 or a future 1st).

It does really depend on what club sav wants to go to though.
With cordy going to st kilda i still reckon sav is more likely to pick port or another side where he can get games as a kpd.

Anyone who is playing mid will find the next 24 months tough.... I guess it depends on how patient some are. Those demanding instant karma may look artound but perhaps they need to talk to someone like Atkins.
