Anyone who is playing mid will find the next 24 months tough.... I guess it depends on how patient some are. Those demanding instant karma may look artound but perhaps they need to talk to someone like Atkins.
Complete buy in hopefully extends to any current VFL players or incoming recruits. There are challenges to get into the side but a willingness to rotate older boys out so a strong squad of 30 are required. If you hit form or time your run right, you never know...the lure of success and great culture/lifestyle should still be a big factor for most.

As it should be. If we’re resting senior bodies we’re gonna need those stepping up to be in form and hungry to do well.

I was coming here to post something about surely with the things we’re getting something has to give.

Not including Sav but my first thought was Stephens and even someone like Menegola, Parfitt or O’Connor

Usually premiership teams lose someone via trade

Would love to keep everyone but I wouldn’t lose any sleep if we lost Ratugolea, Stephens and Menegola and replaced their spots on the list with Henry, Bowes and Bruhn.

Perhaps Jake Niall and fellow bitter ones should read the bolded and understand that the club has a policy that the players have bought into - no one has forced them -but success requires sacrifice and Selwood making 200k and Tomma making 300k is the proof of that.

WE beat the system and did it better than anyone else. Dont sook about it - get better and try and match us.

Im sure the system will change now and we'll go again.... dont hate the player... hate the game.... that THEY made up lol

Our stoppage midfielders this season had a rotation of at least 6 or 7 players, most getting sub 70% TOG. With Selwood out, all it takes is one other like Danger managed (or sent forward) and there are two new spots in there.

If guys fill in and do well they may not see the need to burn blokes like Atkins, Guthrie or Blicavs into the ground with 22 game seasons either.

A large group of midfielders will get their chance to help replicate a key area of success from 2022. Outlasting opposition within games and across the season, especially keeping our older blokes Cherry Ripe.

Spots will be up for grabs. Start of this year, who thought Zuthrie and SDK would have their positions cemented in the team?

I know it’s early to discuss the draft.
But can someone give me a Key position defender (196+) to look at for pick 7?

I’d prefer 2.

Years back I had lever well ahead of Goddard (still think Goddard wasn’t developed correctly)

But I think that’s where we should be looking at.

Not me although I did like ZG. I had us bottom half of the eight so to win a flag and a single digit draft pick is dreamland.

Yep i agree it depends whether some are prepared to wait 12-24 months when 10 or more spots will open up. Guys like sav and cooper probably need to be playing now or they might be delisted by then. 1st/2nd year guys have time and can wait.

The numbers are also interesting..6 off the senior list and 5 on (atkins close bruhn henry bowes) so we are only taking 1 pick to the ND (7) unless simpson sav or another player go as a trade or delist. Are we happy to keep all players and only take 1 pick or do we push sav or someone else to seek a trade?

Will be interesting to see what happens to our fringe/developing mids. Surely other teams will be asking the question
Anyone at the Cats under 22 who can't wait a year or two for our 30yos to see themselves out can see themselves out.

Serious question here... do people think Jyhe Clark will get to pick 8 ( as Ashcroft will get bid against )
I think there’s a chance. Though on draft night if we’ve kept 7 we may trade up and even someone like Hawthorn may help us get to Clark to save any future issue for them.

I dont think clubs will chase menegola due to his age but the other two will get interest if we are willing to let them go.

I coached my junior soccer team across the road from The Hangar in Tullamarine a few months back, it's an absolute shithole of an area and I don't like poo-pooing other people's suburbs. It was that bad.

But who needs Bells, they have Urbnsurf there too 😂
My son and I (non surfers) went to Urbnsurf. Exhausted wading back into the current and waves, but it is an experience.

My bet he surprises...players look a lot better in a winning side. He will have every chance to play the role he wants to

but I still have to ask... what is Menegola thinking about all these ins

I hope you're right, and I certainly don't think Jack Bowes making strides in 2023 is outlandish by any means.

At the risk of getting my mate Pure_Ownage off side, I've always had reservations in relation to Menegola - not saying he hasn't played some good footy with us (and his strong 2020 GF nearly tipped me over into finally becoming and advocate/believer), but the tenability of Menegola's position on the list isn't something that really gives me much pause.... if anything I'm wondering where the acquisition of Bowes leaves Cooper Stephens ...

It's funny, ''inside mid'' is often roughly equatable with a certain hard-nosed ruggedness, and I don't exactly see Bowes like that (like I've mentioned to you Turbo; I usually saw Bowes played as a defender when at the Suns) - but then again, I'm not sure those types of uncompromising adjectives spring to mind when talking about Cam Guthrie (who I find an admirable exponent).

I'm more than willing to give Jack Bowes the benefit of the doubt and time to grow into his preferred role.

#7 at the ND is a very exciting outcome and captures the imagination, but Bowes ('steak knives' as one poster would have it) could well ultimately outperform whoever we draft @ #7.

Great outcome today, worst case scenario Bowes is '''just'' handy depth and we fluff the #7 selection - but we've potentially gone some way to further rejuvenating the list in the exact way that trade week should.
