Could package up a couple of our 3rds and a 4th to Brisbane for an F2 from them?

Help them get points for their F/S's

Same issue as with port. If they trade their future 1st they cant trade their future 2nd without approval.
Really needs a third club involved to trade a future 2nd in exchange for 43 (which is prob what port want to hand over) and one of our other r3s and sav etc.

Where has the future 2nd for Bowes come from?

Gc are trading out of this draft into 2023 where they havs academy kids (need 2023 points)..gws want futures as they have enough picks this year.
We cant trade our future 1st and 2nd (bruhn and bowes) unless we bring in another future 2nd.
We need to dump our 3 r3s this year as we have no list spots to use them.

So we need to turn sav and those r3s into a future 2nd essentially. Gets everything else done.

I love how people and here have said that Sav will never make it bla bla bla he's not going to make it at afl level. There is a reason why Geelong move on these players. And if we get a 3rd rounder for Sav I'll be stoked.

We're very thin for key position depth. No way should we just give Sav away like that.

We will rookie list a kpd but yes i agree i wouldnt do sav for just an upgrade to 33 unless we already had a deal in place to swap 33 and our 50s picks for someones future 2nd.

That's what GC want, and I imagine that's what we want from Port in exchange for some picks this year and Sav. Something like, Port Future 2nd for Sav and 48 (or even Sav and 38 if push comes to shove)

"But, as reported by the Herald Sun on Sunday, a key part of the Suns’ trade demands will be to accept a future second-rounder back as part of the Bowes deal."

The issue is port cant trade their future 1st and 2nd (same as us) so the future 2nd would need to come from a 3rd club but the idea is right.

You don't just give away a contracted player that could be a very handy key position backup away for net zero.

I agree with you to some degree.
I said 8 weeks ago that Esava is now ‘break glass in case of emergency’

I’m not sure I’d like to be in that position if I was him.

But he can cover Stanley to a degree (yes I know ceglar is there).
He can kind of, sort of, cover Cameron or Hawkins to a small degree.

But if we get Henry then he is surplus.

I wonder if the hold up is us waiting for written approval from the AFL to let us trade F1 and 2.

It could be yes port could be asking the afl the same question.

Landing Bowes and pick 7 ! Another amazing day in this amazing year.

Only concern I have with this is the money -

  • we will need to keep some decent sal cap room to preserve our younger star - we have some absolute priority retains that might need huge money to stave off other clubs in a year or two - SDK is my main worry (Blues will throw huge money at him IMO, with joining brother at Blues also a draw card. Think he was a Blues supporter in his youth?)
  • wonder if some of our younger premiership players on small dollars (rookie listed or otherwise) will be miffed by Bowes coming in for $1.2m, even if it is now spread over 4 years.
Won’t happen. He is or was building a house down the coast and a couple of his brothers have houses there. SDK is locked into the lifestyle.

There's currently 5 spots difference between 33 and 38.

Brisbane have 34,35 and 36 that will likely be eaten up on father sons.

So come draft night... It's likely there will only be a 2 position difference between those selections.

38 might be a half decent pick to use in the end if we still hold it and have enough list spots to use it.

Sometimes its is best to do something for the player
I think Geelong are smart enough to have the "bigger picture" in mind. What you lose on some deals you make up on others.

The key part of this (yet again) is it highlights that we always prioritise the health, best interests and wellbeing of our players. In this case, Sav makes a request and we do everything we can to facilitate it. Now supporters might jump up and down, but just yesterday we found a way to attract a former top 10 player (who brings with him a pick 7) when other clubs were offering way more money. We don't just talk player welfare and providing a great environment for our players ...... we live and breath it. And it helps us attract way more talent than we lose.

Bigger picture ladies and gentleman.

P.S - As I've said, I would like to retain Sav. But you can't keep em all and this is the best outcome for the player.

We wont really have more than 2-3 spots. I was just talking about it doesnt matter if we 'lose' on the sav deal in isolation if it gets the other deals done as thats winning overall. But it needs to get us the pick to do that.

I agree it's odd that this is being reported as a recent development, but it does clear the air around speculation that GC would be asking for something closer to Pick 7 as the steak knives.

Good point.

Esava Ratugolea is a rare breed. 198cm, 108kg of mostly muscle and moves like a big cat. And he's popular at the club. I would be keeping him and giving him every opportunity to develop. Big men like Sav take more time to develop and he missed a lot of football after he broke his ankle/leg. He is only 24 years old. I remember Tomahawk at that age was frustrating as well. I hope he stays.

It was reported weeks ago. But it sounds as though both clubs have now gone back and asked for clarification so that the deal is correctly managed and in line with what the AFL originally advised.

Just ticking off protocols given there's clearly a bit of public scrutiny over the deal.

Henry deal getting much closer to being done I'm hearing.

I agree... If we do have 3 live picks I'd think that 38 would be used though.

Anyway... yes, happy for Sav to go If it helps us get our targets... Even if it is only slightly helping.

Will absolutely have just about zero key position depth though... Would assume we'd pick up a cheap KPP to have as a backup if we get desperate.
