I see we are just as ridiculous with other clubs 19 year olds as we are our own.

Bruhn has almost played 30 games in two seasons. Playing most of it in the AFLs graveyard position. I watched him closely and there were flashes of brilliance and a lot of inconsistencies. He’s 19 FFS in a shyte team with a 100 mids.

Henry has 30 goals and has only started 22 games.

They are 10 year players. It’s hard to find outside players like Bruhn and Henry in Rohans spot seems a natural fit

David Zita on the Fox trade forum says

  • No update or info on Bailey Scott
  • Geel the leading candidate for Bruhn but no decision but won’t be at GWS
  • Connor McKenna is either Geel or Bris
  • Said Olly Henry more likely a Geel player than a Coll one.
  • Geelong still in the Hopper race but Richmond in the lead with bigger offer and Taranto friendship.
Has anyone herd of David Zita 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps a bad choice of words when saying "locked in". Nothing is locked in until trade period opens and deals get signed off. But at the time, both Hopper and JDG were absolute targets and Geelong was confident of getting deals done, based on discussions with management and interest shown by players.

Always a huge caveat on these deals as we know - and as we've seen with Hopper, things can change pretty quickly once other clubs step in. Geelong were clearly not prepared to push as far as Richmond have. As for JDG - clearly Collingwood have changed their stance and now look like re-contracting him. That wasn't what his manager was telling clubs 6 weeks ago.

Can only pass on what I've been told but provide whatever feedback you like along the way. I won't lose too much sleep - it's a forum and we're not playing for sheep stations the last time I checked. Maybe just don't take it all too seriously.o I who do you think will still land at the cattery?
Good, now begin operation bring Henry home!
He hasn’t got a defensive game, that’s why he can’t get a game at the Pies and wants $350k per year and they will want a late 1st rounder for him. Is he worth that? Or do we go someone else we need now?

I need a bigger knock on a 19 year old that had 45 shots at goal in 15 games.

It all equals out in the future. Richmond have tied their hands for a while. Who knows what opportunities they miss going forward.

As the other poster mentioned - Richmond will be giving up a hell of a lot to get both Taranto and Hopper.
Surely they know Dusty will go. They can’t 💰 pay 30-40% of their cap to 6 players!

Hawthorn ignored the draft, but the implication is you guys have hit on the draft picks you have taken, which is a stretch at this point. You dont build a list off 1 draft. Gibcus, M Rioli, Cumberland and Sonsie are the only names from your last game that you seem prepared to play at this point. And none of them have much quality about them at this stage. Nor are they a compliment to Taranto and Hopper.

Outside of that your team last Thursday was "stacked" with veterans and has-beens. Look at your line up from last Friday and decide for yourself how much Taranto and Hopper would have helped. Maybe they would've, but next year? Another year older for Martin, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Vlaustin, Broad, McIntosh, Nank, Prestia...Whatever you have to pay for both will be overs, and the damage it will do to your draft hand over the next 2 - 3 years will be hard to justify without a flag to show for it. Hawthorn v2.0 as the outcome is the safe bet.
Gibcus, Rioli, Cumberland, Sonsie…no quality? 😳😳😳

Completely different player to Henry. Thomas has played his best football rolling through the midfield. But when forward he’s a high half forward. Where Henry plays that third tall role.

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
The third tall is a hard position to play and Henry has shown some class when he has had the chance.

A 7-year contract... or 6 next year, would trigger a 1st round compo pick for GWS under free agency rules.
That would be a real chance to be inside the top 5 picks.

For that reason alone you just know GWS will not give him up cheaply since he is contracted and Richmond clearly wants him + TT badly.

Happy to wipe our hands of this one and bust out the popcorn.
The years pretty much don't make a difference for compo. It's dollars per year

You give no reasons for why it equals out in the future for the unsuccessful clubs which was the point of my comment.

Sorry, I get what you want to know.

I’m looking at the hits and misses that clubs have by doing this. EFC and Carlton have paid a lot and missed out, brought in a lot of good top line players. hawthorn did well, but then struck out with O’Meara and Mitchell and O’Rourkw.

Lynch was excellent for Richmond - but Taranto and Hopper may just tip them over the edge and lock them out from getting available players in future (I.e. Parish or some other free agent).

Melbourne may get Grundy - but that’s really not the position they need to get an A grade player in.

We got Cameron, and everyone is saying that was worth it, but we failed with MacIntosh, Higgins and Clarke. If we don’t get a premiership with Danger and Cameron - In a lot of ways - we didn’t achieve the outcome we were after.

Sydney with Buddy too have this issue. Brisbane with Lachie Neale and Daniher too.

You might bring in the best player in the league into your team, but there is a cost, and there is no guarantee that it will work out. And other teams with lesser lights who work better as a team might end up winning a premiership. Other teams may pick up more suitable players with the picks you’ve traded away.

And really, we rank players so easily as A grade (Dillon Shiels etc) but they don’t make that much of a difference if the system doesn’t suit them.

I think it’s not really set in stone that you’ll do better by getting in top line talent or that you’ll one up a competitor. You can definitely do well, but it’s not the be all and end all. Richmond may feel like they’ve stolen a key replacement for us in Hopper, but we may just get improvement from Stephens or Atkins that equate to what hopper can do, but at a lesser cost.

Just rambling anyway. You never really know how a team will go with the unique combination of players they have.

Dustys not going til end 2024 as no club will take on his 1.2mil.

Thats why they have to backend TT and hopper.

There should be some restrictions on backending. It defeats the equalisation aim as big clubs can attract players with huge money and flag prospects, and put off the cap issues until years in the future.
I dunno, it'll even things up pretty hard when that bow wave hits
