I dunno, it'll even things up pretty hard when that bow wave hits
But does it. Pies are playing for a PF. Tigers have Dusty and Lynch on big money, but they are going for Taranto and Hopper. Giants are being hit but they made a GF and matched Cameron when their cap was out the window.
Melbourne are going for Grundy when they have a number of players on big long term contracts.
It ends up with lower clubs being forced to pay big money for B graders, otherwise their fans see them as doing nothing to stay competitive.

I guess we'll see

Is it fact? Not challenging you're opinion if you don't rate him, but I would debate it is a fact he wouldn't be in our team.

Interupted year and I don't want to go too far the other way but on talent he'd nearly be our best midfielder.

* him though, if he is wants to play for a grub team like Richmond then I don't want him.
I have watched all of Hoppers last 6 games of the season and there is no way on his form in those 6 games that he makes the side ahead of Parfitt as an inside mid.

And Parf didn’t even make the side last match.

So Hopper would be fighting to take an inside mid spot off Selwood, Danger, Guthrie, Blitz and Atkins.

Hoppers slow running, 19 touches and 160m gained per game isn’t gonna cut it and make the best 22.

I’m not saying that would be the case next year, with a good preseason.

But from what I have seen... He simply isn’t playing well enough at the moment to crack our current side.

I’m happy to even go as far as no one on this board has a good source within the walls of GFC
It’s pretty easy to have a stab in the dark like I did with Parish.
Doesn’t take much
Things do honestly change as abruptly as they appear from the outside sometimes though. I have a had a very good source in the past and scenarios like Hoppers happened often. Three years out it would be "Hoppers manager says he wants to come to Geelong", then each year after, "Yep Hoppers coming" then trade week when it's meant to happen would start and I'd be waiting to hear the news and then nothing.....would speak to said source and all of a sudden it would be "nah Hoppers not coming".

Point being, there would be people on here with legitimate sources but things change quickly and can make people look very silly. My impression is that maybe sometimes those working within the walls are partial to some hyperbole. Messages that come out are often "Hoppers a lock, he's coming to Geelong" when perhaps it should be "We are talking to his manager, he is interested in playing for Geelong".

Fair enough. I think he would because his disposal is better than Parfitts but respect your opinion.

People don’t like to admit. If Richmond get them they’ll be very handy additions as I said and they’ll again be around the mark in 2023.
Hawks went down this road.

They did get two more straight sets exits before falling off the cliff.

No clubs besides Geelong (free agency/trades) and Sydney (academy) have really shown they could manage this rebuilding on the run to stay in contention without causing serious future harm.

It's fine for Richmond to roll the dice and I think it's more fun if more clubs try it, but you have to nail the incoming acquisitions as well as your now late draft picks/rookie selections.

So who told you then? We don't know who anyone on here are, it's not like your name is on this

My point is no one would know a direct sauce inside the club who would have a genuine idea.
Sure people can have sources, but they would be sources of sources and it’s just like Chinese whispers.
There are very few who are right on here, even going back many years to the mystery mid.

I could say now we will draft a mystery forward and in 3 years time say that’s who it was.

He hasn’t got a defensive game, that’s why he can’t get a game at the Pies and wants $350k per year and they will want a late 1st rounder for him. Is he worth that? Or do we go someone else we need now?

I'd offer pick 46 for Henry out of contract we'd get him for that.

Still don't think Pies will trade Oliver Henry, not unless they get a Pick around 20ish.... I doubt our pick 36 would get him.

Bruhn might end up being a bit of a fire sale though, with a 2nd round pick should do it. Maybe not Pick 36, but if we do a picks shuffle, something around 25-32 would get him.

Got to remember with Bruhn he missed the marjority of his U18 year & that was also the worst affected by Covid restrictions too & failing to shine for a team where Josh Kelly & Lachie Whitfield struggle to do the same, I think it could be more of an indictment on the club rather than the players.

Not that he has much value but GWS could be interested in Esava.

I don't doubt some people have good sources four or more steps away from a decision maker,

Those that do have legit insider info know better than to share whatever they may have on BigFooty - the smart ones do anyway. 🤨

Yeah, we actually don't really know Bruhn's actual potential. He could be a gun, or a bust still. He was a high draft pick based on potential, rather than runs on the board in U18s.

Henry is being under rated. Only needs to improve by half a goal a game to be on the se level as Fritsch from Melbourne. Looks like he has match winner potential. I would gladly give our first for him.

We should look at the Richmond fringe players such as Dow or Stack now they will be seeking more opportunities. If we only scored McKenna it would be a massive win. Would be best 22 and cost peanuts. Yes please.
