I’ve been around BF a long time but I still don’t know which of our posters to trust and not to.

Just because Calder said Thomas, shouldn’t mean we suddenly do or don’t believe him. Brad likes him, so every chance Chris has heard some positive things.
I wouldn’t be wrapped with it myself but our club isn’t morally superior over everyone else no matter how much we want to believe it, we just want a good player. Other clubs have enquired about him, we wouldn’t be any different.

Look at Toby Greene, he is an absolute tosser and has been done for many things including making a bloke fear for his life in a pub fight.
Yet everyone loves him.

I don't think Toby a toss pot ..

TT could be a very good player ...not the best bloke at times this season he looked disinterested at times under the right coaching etc he could be a good get...I'm talking on feild ..

Many would be surprised how much that can influence someone's actions. It's as the saying goes, 'hurt people, hurt people'.

Nobody's born good or bad, they're a product of their environment, and you eventually reach a point where you're old enough to make your own decisions and have your own views.

I think it's the other way around.

We are all born good and bad.

“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained”

That’s the thing. He is a tosser on and off the field.
I just mentioned the court case with the person he attacked saying how much he felt threatened. Toby said himself what he is like. A year without an indiscretion proves nothing.
No one eastablished in the league doesn’t have a year or 2 without an indiscretion.

The bloke has serious anger issues. Not much you can say changes that. People are happy to forgive very quickly.
You'd be surprised, we're actually much quicker to throw the baby out with the bathwater over here in comparison to other sports in terms of our media.

In the US for example, Ray Lewis was playing while on charge for double murder. Deshaun Watson had had up to 30 claims of sexual assault/harrassment and secured one of the largest contracts in NFL history, and is still playing now.

Countless players have been charged with domestic violence, rape, and other despicable crimes. It's not pretty reading.

The point is though, seeing as this appears at least likely to happen, we all need to remember this: As much as we like to think so, our club is not morally superior to any other.

They're businesses at the end of the day, and if the club believes the recruitment of Tarryn Thomas could win us a premiership (ala Stengle) they'll do it.

I can appreciate those who are concerned, and your claims are valid...but you're kidding yourself if you think AFL clubs won't give a talent like this 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances.

They're just like businesses at the end of the day, it's the bottom line that matters most to them.

It would take a member revolt in the numbers of 10,000s to change their thinking if they're 100% on making this happen.

Whether the guy is a dickhead or not doesn't particularly bother me, theres plenty of dickheads running around every weekend that get swept under the carpet.

There are plenty of dickheads at every club but 99 % of them are not likely to contribute to the road toll the way tarryn probably will. Given the scourge that is in society i wouldnt take him if you paid me.

With respect mate, I've seen a lot of evidence to the contrary through my field of work.

Without trying to de-rail the thread, if you take a child who's grown up around domestic violence, substance abuse, emotional/physical abuse etc and he grows up to be a bit of a d**k, it's safe to say he didn't get there on his own. He's a product of his environment.

If you take that same child and have him grow up in a loving family, with two primary care givers who nurture and support him, chances are they're going to turn out a bit better.

Now, there's of course a point where enough is enough and you need to make your own choices to be good or bad...but I truly believe that most 'bad' people never had a chance to begin with.

It's very rare that you find a truly horrific person with a good upbringing. It's just so important and they're the formative years of one's character for a reason.

Has Thomas been confirmed anywhere else?

Calder thanks for the heads up.
Lets see if your info is right.

What do you think the trade would be? How highly do you rate him?
The 2024 OOC Thread post dedicated to him has nothing recent. Just a post saying "Thomas to stay at Roos in 2024"

If we are trading for him it'll be hard to judge his value. I wouldn't give up more than a late first for him but others may disagree.

It's such a difficult question because the difference is so stark.

If you could promise that he's on the straight and narrow, training his arse off and ready to contribute, then I'd give up a first in a heartbeat, particularly a late one. His talent is best player in the comp good. We could shoot back into premiership contention overnight.

On the contrary, if he really is a d**khead, and hasn't yet learnt what's required of him, then it's a hard pass. Don't even go there Cats.

I said it earlier, but it's Stengle on steroids. Bigger risk, bigger reward.

No chance and no chance pick 7 being involved
The Sav pick and next years second rounder.
Better to be around a culture that would never condone such behaviour. If only more action were taken to alter the behaviour of young men toward women. Contract where one more incident he's removed from the club instantly.
Only then would I go with it.
And what did his girlfriend say about his recently departed grandmother,
Lets not put the other party on a pedestal.

No chance in hell I'd feel ok with parting with #7 for TT unless #8 was coming back.

The guy has talent, but even putting aside his extremely high value diminishing off-field issues... he really has not put in one really good season.

Without off-field issues I'd be ok with a late first for him (Bruhn/Henry type value) but those issues are real and they absolutely take away from his value + North probably would be keen to flick him if given the chance.

Not a hard pass if true... But no #7 at all... We'd be suckers to give that up.

calder_daddy do we have any idea how down the track these discussions are? Done deal? Unlikely? Has he requested a trade at his exit interview?

Hypothetically, if we can get Thomas on the straight and narrow (and on our terms), and then go hard at Smith next year, that's your midfield rebuild right there.

Smith, Thomas, Clark, Bruhn, Holmes, Knevitt, Conway.

Throw in a mid first round prospect like Darcy Wilson for good measure, and we're there.

We can then focus on another key forward prospect in the following drafts to partner with Neale/Henry, along with a key defender to partner Jenry/SDK.

Could always just go hard for Cadman too, seeing as he's got a good relationship with Jezza.

When I watch what Mackie said today, it sounds to me that our only move in the trade period is trading Rata. And we're open to trading pick 7.

He basically confirmed we're chasing Smith so watch that space next year. TT is also ooc next year, so If we're chasing him as well, then I think they both get done next year instead. We'll have cap space plus more picks (hopefully Port's first too)

Also said we're trying to extend Holmes, we've already begun discussions with his manager. So hopefully, he's going nowhere.

Smith & TT in one off-season is going to take a s**tonne of draft capital. Could be game changing for the club, but it would cost a huge amount.

Contract year for both, so you'd think they're playing somewhere near their best footy. That's a minimum of 3 first round picks I reckon, possibly 4. Would be very Taranto/Hopper esque.

The alternative is they both stink it up and while they're cheap, you question if they're even worth getting.

Not interested in Thomas and I doubt he’ll be at Geelong next year not based on his off field but just can’t see what the trade deal that could satisfy.
But I do think we should be trying to get some of those dodgy afl picks from North. It would be very funny for Scott to come down so hard and rightly so on the afl handouts to north then find a way to get some of those picks to geelong.
