He's definitely not staying, but think again when it comes to not getting a good deal:

Already discussion about Port putting their future 1st out there to get collateral in this draft - to then on-trade to us, Richmond and Essendon. Different discussion to even a week ago. Also coming from Twomey who is involved speaking to all the different clubs down at Docklands - so it looks like it is a possibility to use it, despite the '2 in 4' rule. Trust Twomey over a lot of the other commentators when it comes to this discussion, as well.

I daresay Scott going full jilted ex over losing his love child is probably showing them how much we don't want to lose him - and how much we're prepared to do this the hard way if we are facing that prospect.

See below:

"PORT Adelaide's future first-round pick is on the trade table as the Power look at ways to split the selection to help them get their deals done.

The Power have had Geelong's Esava Ratugolea, Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Bulldog Jordon Sweet nominate Alberton Oval as their preferred new homes ahead of the trade period, with the club also interested in Richmond ruckman Ivan Soldo.

But without a first-round selection this year – it's with North Melbourne after the Jason Horne-Francis deal in 2022 – the Power have to be creative to get their deals done, with rivals aware their 2023 first-rounder is up for grabs for multiple selections.

There are a number of possible options if the Power are to look at clubs who could be willing to use two picks to package together for the future first-rounder.

Sydney (picks No.23 and 31) and Melbourne (25 and 33) loom as possible options as clubs with multiple picks this year, while Port could also look at finding a club that has one early second-round pick this year and can throw in a future second-rounder to net the future first-round selection.

Fremantle (pick No.22) and Hawthorn (30) hold top-30 picks this season as well as their future second-rounders, while West Coast also holds two second-round picks (No.20 and 33) and could also be possibilities. – Callum Twomey"

IF they are looking to split their Fr1... why not give a Future back with Sav and take their Fr1?

What picks do North have? It sounded like part of their comp was structure to encourage them to trade the picks ... or they might lose them?

Should we be concerned regarding Holmes being linked to other clubs. It sounds like we are very keen to re-sign him asap but they are happy to wait?

Depends on what you mean concerned.

If we can bring in Bruhn and Ollie Henry etc...then others will not be shy about looking at players like Holmes. He might want to return home .... all the way up the highway.

Fact of live that players will enact the choice that they were denied at the draft. Would it surprise ...? With the sal cap going up ..one of the Melb teams coming hard with big numbers for him.

We will get a decent deal but not replacement value. Lets hope he is happy and signs.

That was my original trade aaaaages ago. Future 1st for Sav and Future 2nd. Would be funny if that actually came to fruition.

A few of us have said it ... I think an extra r1 next year could be very handy. Logically Port would offer much the same as last year but Port being interested in multiple players forces them to use something as collateral.

We actually do have some leverage.. He is a KPD and they are really sought after atm. North and the Hawks would take him in the PSD. Pick 37 is a junk pick in this draft…
Put it this way, Sav will be so pissed off that we are making it hard again he'd likely go to the draft and go to Hawthorn just to get away.

I love the way Scott is talking in the media regards Sav.

He can't be acting like we will just roll over and make a trade for whatever we are offered.

He is doing what he needs to do to show we are not scared to get nothing for him unless we Port offer an appropriate trade for the contract they are offering Sav.

I have always said I'd be shocked if we just bent over and happily took #37 because he was OOC.

Nah Port wants and needs a player like him badly... they are in the window, and other teams interested in Sav have earlier selections in the ND & PSD.

If Port wants to show they truly want Sav and get this done then they need to get to work making us happy.

The way we do every time we commit to a player... We just get it done.

And as a poster mentioned a few pages back, if we come out not blinking it shows other clubs for future trades that we will not be walked over, that's a good thing for potential future trades.

That in itself would be worth losing #37 alone... #37 is a nothing pick this year... Sav is valued more than that by Port and us so Port needs to step it up or potentially miss out on the prime target.

I like how everyone took from Mackie's comments that we're going to trade our first pick back. I took the exact opposite.

He said multiple times that our pick was in a good spot, that the draft was very even soon after our pick and that we were happy looking at players right at the end of the draft.

It sounded to me like they might have a couple of the "elite" bracket from this draft that they aren't that interested in and if they're the only ones left we might look at auctioning it off to the highest bidder. But that would require excellent future picks.

I am with a few of you regarding holmes, he looked good last year and I one of those that think he be our best mid about now. but seem like he struggle a bit without dangerfield and selwood, if he puts in another year like this i be listening offers.

I'm on this boat 100%, felt his form declined this year. Would want a big 2024 before committing too much to keep him. But there could be more to his form than we're aware of and we get what we all want from him next season.

Has anything new come out since his manager calmed the waters?

Every coach/list manager says the same thing about a player that requests a trade though.

"He's a required player..."
"We've put a lot of development into him..."
"We won't be letting him go easily..."

But 99 times out of 100 the player will get traded to their destination of choice. We may get more than 37, I think we probably will. But we can't expect a huge return for a player that has never been a regular and was dropped to the VFL late in the year. If we can move 37 into a late 20's pick (25-30ish), we'll probably just have to accept that.

And re. the bolded, OHenry had to wait until the last minute of trade period. We're not always so accommodating when the shoe is on the other foot.

You would think he did something that was worth prison time. Is he going to be branded with this for the rest of his life. What a joke.
What he did IS VERY MUCH DESERVING OF PRISON TIME. You cannot be serious. He threatened to spread revenge p*rn. If he had, a woman's life would have been absolutely ruined, which is the actual joke here.

I honestly can't stand men who refuse to stand up for women. How do you go about your day not helping those who need your protection and support? How do you defend men who choose to harass and abuse? It makes me as a woman not want to have thing to do with footy the way men act like abusive men are the real victims for being held accountable for their choices instead of the women they decide to abuse.

Sydney to get James Jordon as a Free Agent, another off the board!!!
It makes sense given Mills will miss next year.

I found Mackie’s comments about looking at our deficiencies over the next few years quite interesting. In my opinion, he was alluding most to our need for a young key forward to replace Hawkins and then Cameron soon after. Could we plan to trade our pick 7 for a future R1 and then make a serious play for Aaron Cadman next year? We would probably need to package 2 x early-ish R1 picks to acquire him.

Bit of a rumour that PA will trade their F1 for 2 of Melbourne’s picks. I’d say we’ll end up with 25 under that scenario which would be a reasonable result for both parties. Ratagolea trade I’m referring to.

Given how Scott and Mackie have spoken in recent days, i dont think 25 is going to be viewed as a good result by the club.

I have a sense that our response may come across as overly judgmental, which may not have been the intention. I'm not taking sides here, as people are prone to making mistakes and without all of the facts we are guessing. However, it's important for us to maintain a balanced perspective and recognise that both parties were involved in abusive behaviour. Terms such as "harassment," "abuse," "life-ruining," and "accountability" apply to both sides.

Football reflects societal issues, and while it's crucial to address these issues within the AFL, we shouldn't expect the league to be the ultimate arbiters of what is right or wrong. Otherwise, it could become unworkable. If we can improve any player's life then we should do so without being stopped by our moral standards and principles.

These are just my opinions. I understand your frustration, and at the age of 69, I can say that I've lived a clean and principled life myself, as I am sure you have.
