As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Any big name not re-signed by this point is 95% gone.
And someone mentioned it early in the thread, how often do we hear a lot of noise mid season about an imminent re-signing being about to happen, then radio silence for months before they leave. And Parish has followed this trend where all these articles and Footy Crappified etc saying the deal is done, but they couldn't provide details (red flag) and now they are silent.

If Brad Scotts philosophy of “if a player doesn’t want to play here then we don’t want them” is as true as he says and Parish says I want out to Geelong I wonder how quickly the EFC would backflip and try and force an unrealistic trade.

about as quick as it takes to say ... "WHAT! No gravy?"

There are many mechanisms where money saved this year, can be spent next year

Sure they could frontload but thats still a big gamble when you dont know if the player you want next year will actually come. Better to deal next year when you know they will.

Depends if mckay goes there if so they match parish.

On gettabale today ..they mentioned the Swans might switch to looking at McKay now that Barrass has told West Coast he is going nowhere.

It seems there are at least 4 teams after tall backmen. Swans. Ess. Haw. Port

McKay is a FA

Sav probably is going to be either an equal target to him or at worst second to him.

All of the clubs look to have cap room. ...

If Parish lets Ess know he is considering outside offers ... would they continue the pursuit of McKay or would they switch to Sav.

Do the Swans look at Sav and say he woudl work well in Syd ..and he was from up that way.

Port saw him play and like what they saw.

The poo and the wees are apparently keen. (according to gettable)

Its a definitely good time to be have decent tall backman.

They’re two separate things.

No club wants players who don’t want to be there. But no club rolls over and trades them out for less than they’re worth.

But if Parish lets them know he is looking at offers... and one or two inside ess like the look of that early pick. Just how keen are they on Mckay. Enough to cost themselves a R1 pick?

If came down to the crunch... do they rate McKay more than a R1 pick?

Being able to tie Sav to Parish would be great for us.

In an ideal situation we finish above Essendon.

Which gets two options

Parish for FA, Sav for steak knives

Parish for R1 + Sav + potentially something. If they do match it only be cause they're pushing for FR1

If Parish wanted us.. and Sav wanted Ess ... and if they wanted a Band1 comp ... I think the streak knives should be pretty sharp.

Hard to know who Sav would prefer. Id think Syd would be an attractive option. Port is probably the best team. Ess and Haw stay in vic but still move.

Maybe a little left field, but could one factor that may potentially help swap a decision for Ratugolea be Narkle being on a senior list next year?

We know they’re great mates who have live together before so could a potential suitor sign Narkle? We’ve seen similar before with other teams who’ve signed a mate of their main target

I’m not sure with the mid-season draft if Narkle put a 6 month or 18 month contract as his starting point, so he could already be signed up with Port for next season. But if he hasn’t, could Essendon who he played VFL with earlier this season be willing to put a deal to him if they think it could be seen as attractive for ER to then join a club where his mate is already signed with?

I wouldnt but they might.

Esava wants to go to Port, he wanted to go there last here, he will have an on-the-quiet agreement with them and will not want to burn bridges.

There's no reason he'd switch to Johnny-come-lately at the last minute... not to mention that Port will finish top-four, and Essendon probably won't even make the 8.

I doubt Port fail to offer Narkle a contract and SPP is his mate from back in home in WA.

Why on earth do we not keep Sav?
He has been needed all year, and is looking more assured each week.

What if Port’s slump continues and they flop in the finals? Will Hinkley be the coach and if not, will the new coach rate Esava in the same way?

  • SDK
  • Sav
  • Well ordered backline
Choose 2
CS has already commented on our future backline featuring DeK at FB, Sav at CHB- the beginning of a talented productive spine. Jam in the other defenders around those 2.

He only considered Port due to lack of opportunities with us- that has been corrected this year, Sav will stay on, he always wanted to.
Ridiculous considering his departure because we happen to have Dek as well.
