As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Love Bowes massive "HIGHLIGHT" on the afl website where he jogs across the ground and kicks a cheap goal.
I mean he literally started rhe chain and kept moving to stay involved... A cheap goal implies less than that and far less than it was...

The down the ground footage though is a horrible look for Frank the Tanks chasing effort!

I wish we got more of that angle, tells you a lot more about the play than that zoom into the contest

Be interested to see what he would cost. The form he is showing now is hard to deny. 24 next year. 70 games. I'd rather him than MCrouch
There’s no place for Dow at Carlton with their midfield riches. Let’s get him

My fears on Jack look like they are real. Don’t think we will see him back this year and worry about impact on 2024. As I posted a few days ago, I reckon this injury will have a profound impact on Geelongs views in terms of SAV. Whether it changes SAV’s mind might depend on how much and how long Geelongs offer is

Doesnt matter what geelongs view is.
If sav walks we cant do anything and he knows he is a backup next year if everyone is fit. He needs a trade for his own sake.

That 225k is the difference in pay between Tom MCartin and Jeremy Cameron.

What jeremy camerons on the market are gettable though?

Theres none that i can see.

Freeing up 300-500k sounds great in theory but if the best you can do with it is get a cooked or average fwd (see ben brown) you are just better off keeping an elite ruck as backup instead.

Depends how you use it, we probably paid Smith and Stengle about that in 2022

Been watching Hawkins slowly catch Jack Riewoldt’s goal tally for a couple years now. 6 off because the poor guy got injured.

Is he going to retire because I’d like Hawkins to at least kick 835

There's a fred on Hawkins vs J Roo ..

Jack was better early on.
Tom better later on.

It wasn't one for the ages, but he stayed in the contest.

Credit to him, I didn't see anyone running like that in the Freo game.

He also ran most of the length of the ground in the last (I think) to be a potential link in the chain. He didn't get on the end of it but you could see him in frame as an outside option for most of the movement up the ground. May not be a super-high possession winner, blessed with amazing skills, or have much X-factor, but he's a reasonably hard worker.

Potentially ..I wonder if this affect the way we look at our list. Lose Sav and Henry doubtful... do we look to add a tall.

Maybe a deal for Haynes is more doable. I guess a cheaper option may be available.

Do we look at Bailey Van De Heuvel as late pick?

Got a good look at his work when we played the Lions and he was clearly a cut above Sav in terms of positioning and general defensive savvy. Good work rate too. If it was up to me, he'd 100% be a rookie or late pick.

Yes but the free agent market is way better next year than this year. They are better to hold grundy and trade him in 12mths. It gives them 12mths of better backup when gawn will be 33 and then trade him for a better result than now. Theres no point trading him now if they cant immediate bring in a quality kpf that solves a deficiency.

What about if you could get Darcy Parish, Bailey Smith, Max Holmes...

Parish is not what melb need and the other 2 arent gettable til next year which is my point.

Its an interesting conundrum. If you were melb , you had the money , you have the picks.. want a forward.. who is gettable or could be persuaded. They might see if they could move Darling. Talk to Silvani although he is no Dunstall. Riccardi? Membrey might be ok to help spread the load. Dogs must have someone they have a heap of talls ... but really I could see Melb just joping Van Rooyen and Jeffereson come good quickly

Not for Melb but for us down the track. I noticed today that GWS have not extended Cadman yet. Unusual. They seem to like to lock guys like that away.

I would like to rookie Bailey Van De Heuvel, age 25 perfect mature age ..

Bailey Smith is absolutely gettable this year, for the right price. You could also put together a huge offer for one of the King brothers, for this year or next.

Ben King would, provided his knee hung together, be a game-changer for Melbourne. His contract ends next year and any money you could save for that, you would.

Let's face it, Jeremy Cameron to Geelong was years in the making.

I mean, we used our free cap space to get Jack Bowes plus Pick Seven for a song.

It's why we're the favourites for him, whether it be this year or next. As we saw with Jezza & Bowes, it helps having kept in contact over the years.

Just on Parish, this is getting pretty funny. Virtually no noise but everything points to him going.

It's a pretty unique case particularly for us, usually we've got an insider in here telling us the deal was sown up 6 months ago.

There is no way Bailey Smith will be leaving the Dogs this year...

Wonder if Melbourne would like at a player like Georgiades, who reportedly is open to a move to Melbourne even though the speculation is he could lean towards a return to WA?
